Statistics show that a lot of people were alive in the 90's (like, more than a million, at least), which means that a lot of people remember the 90's. I was born in '92, so a lot of 90's pop-culture has been burned into my brain permanantly. It was the decade of true 3D, vastly overpriced fast food, obnoxious marketing campaigns, improved CGI effects in movies, Kevin Smith movies, emerging musical genres, and much more.
In the realm of video games, first-person shooters became a revolutionary genre that few people suspected would become one of the most stale genres ever. Ditto for kart racers and 3D platformers. The PlayStation and Nintendo 64 came out in '95 and '96, respectively, setting a new standard for whatever they set new standards for. CDs were a relatively new concept, just new enough that you were considered an old fogey if you hadn't burned all your game cartridges and cassette tapes in a massive bonfire and replaced them with new, shiny CDs.
The movie industry was alive and well, too, because just about every 90's movie that had computer-generated giant lizards, aliens and/or robots was guaranteed to have a giant, multijillion-dollar marketing campaign that included a deal with Taco bell to sell those cool, $10 cups that every kid ages 5 to 10 wanted but their parents wouldn't let them get because they were just stupid cups and you could get something way better for $10. Also popular were "?vaent?-gaerdé" movies that were five minutes long but were really deep, because they were black and white and explored the deepest outer inner reaches of the human soul.
Music was also popular, and unfortunately, so was alternative rock. The two bands I remember were probably as different as they get, but had one thing in common, which was that you couldn't do anything without hearing them: The Spice Girls, and Rage Against the Machine. The Spice Girls was this annoying all-girl pop group that was notable in that you could never actually listen to their songs, and yet you somehow knew the lyrics to every Spice Girls song there ever was and ever will be. Rage Against the Machine was big because they had a message, which was that the government was evil, man, and because of that, it was totally awesome when, at a concert, they stood there naked while guitar feedback played for half an hour. They also did a song for the Godzilla soundtrack, which was supposed to be really ironic because whatever the song was about was about how movies are government propaganda, man.
Finally, there were Pogs. Pogs were, for about a year, the ultimate thing ever, so ultimate that schools banned them for being so ultimate. And then there was the Pokemon trading card game, which about six people actually knew how to play, but because it was Pokemon, it was the duty of every kid to play it.
So anyway, that's how I remember the 90's to be. For all I know, that could be a completely inaccurate view of it, but I don't care. Anyway, I guess the point of this thread is to share your memories of the 90's. So, yeah.
-
I was born in 1991, so I was kinda too young to be a part of the early 90's culture, but the late 90's culture kinda bothered me, from what I knew about it then. One of my teachers tells me I might've been born in the wrong era, because I seem to show interest in things from the 80's.
-
(Just a note, the apostrophe does not go after the number when referring to years. It goes before it. You're implying that the decade had owned something with the title.)
A lot of late '80s stuff was still pretty popular in the very early '90s, such as music and electronics. Being born in the late '80s, I can remember most of the early '90s.
This topic still seems awkward to me, as Yoshi55 was pretty annoying on this sort of thing.
P.S. You guys are SO YOUNG.
-
I was born in '93 and clearly remember how popular the Spice Girls were and Britney Spears were. I also remember the rave over Pokemon that continued into the new millennium. I got a Playstation 1 in 1998 or 1999.
P.S.
BEING YOUNG RAWKS!!1
-
I was born in '87, so I remember a lot of stuff from the 90s. I always watch those "I Love The 90s" specials on VH1 to remind myself of a better time. My older friend inroduced me to Queen in the mid 90s. I remember when it was actually worth getting up early on saturday morning to watch cartoons, and I still do it, but only because I have Boomerang. I also recall watching Dennis The Menace in syndication for many years. Now it's back on Boomerang, too.
-
How can you talk about the 90's and forget to mention the controversy caused by Beavis & Butt-Head, not to mention Bart Simpson shirts being banned from school?
I remember when CD-Rom was considered cutting-edge technology. Nowadays, you get most everything by downloading it.
90's was also the last decade of after school programming for kids. I remember getting home from school everyday to watch Beetleborgs, Power Rangers, Animaniacs, Tiny Toons Adventures, Batman/Superman: The Animated Series, Pokemon, and a couple of others I can't remember right now.
I really don't understand why people say the second half of the 90's is bad. Maybe it's just because I grew up in it and I'm biased. Or maybe its because that's when the Monday Night Wars heated up and brought the best of WCW and WWF. Either way, I love the 90's, and I do miss the simple days of it, but it's never blinded me from the good stuff of the new millenium.
-
I remember playing Pokémon Red all the way back in 1997. Oh, to relive those days...
-
Oh geez, Wiggles just reminded me of my cousins' enormous Power Ranger obsession, which I'll admit I also got caught up in. Also, Cartoon Network was the greatest back then. Anyone remember World Premiere Toons/The What A Cartoon! Show? You know, the very thing that spawned Dexter, Johny Bravo and Cow & Chicken? Those were the days....
-
I remember playing Pokémon Red all the way back in 1997. Oh, to relive those days...
You imported it from Japan?
Yeah I remember the '90s a lot, like for example there would be times where not every SNES game that had ever been made had been released, and movies came out, and N64 was amazing, and Virtual Boy not so much, and there was also music, and in the last couple of years I became a bit conscious of the music around me and it sucked. Boy bands. Celine Dion.
In conclusion, oh yeah, the '90s also had such stuff like yeah.
In conclusion the '90s were the decade last decade.
-
Sorry, 1998. Anyway, yeah, the 90's rocked. Except for a few births...

Wow, I think this is a record for a new topic for me: ten posts in one day. Personally, one thing I remember from the '90s (thanks, Vidgmchtr) was the Godzilla remake. Roland Emmerach managed to create the one of the worst and one of the best movies of the '90s, simultaneously. If you tell yourself it's not called "Godzilla" and think of some other name, then the horribleness of the remake goes away and it's actually a pretty good movie. Well, you also have to ignore the cheesy dialogue, obnoxious advertising campaign, ripping off of Aliens later in the film and the fact that the "Baby Godzillas OMFG!!!11" plot point goes nowhere.
-
I beat you with dried fruit, Glorb.
One thing I remember from the 90's is Wario's Woods, and I mean the SNES version. Everybody (save one of the people who I was referring to with that birth comment) in my immediate family loves this game. I personally loved pwning computers on Hard mode, while my parents preferred playing the quest-type mode. Now that I have a decent gamepad and the ROM, I can play on my computer with identical controls; no more keyboard for me!
-
You know what? I am incredibly glad that the '90s aren't here anymore. However:
Dexter's Lab and the two Star Trek shows that started in the '90s were good.
X-Wing was good.
-
I don't see much of a difference between the '90s and now.
-
It's weird how different the late and early '90s were. The early '90s was basically identical to the late '80s (skateboarding was rad, synth pop was still somewhat cool, the NES wasn't dead yet), but the late 90's was a strange mix of constant advertising and stuff telling you that constant advertising is evil, man. I personally liked the Burger King and McDonalds ads that used old '80s songs.
-
Maybe I didn't like the '90s because I watched TV then.
-
Whaddaya mean? '90s TV r0x0rz! There was Rocko's Modern Life, Godzilla: The Series (which was surprisingly cool), Power Rangers, etc.
-
Contrary to popular belief, the '90's never happened.
-
'92 was a good year. A very good year indeed. June of '92 was the best. ;)
-
Whaddaya mean? '90s TV r0x0rz! There was Rocko's Modern Life, Godzilla: The Series (which was surprisingly cool), Power Rangers, etc.
Woah, so I'm not alone in loving Godzilla: The Animated Series?
This is absolutely great. Next, someone's going to come up to me and tell me Surge was their favorite drink.
-
I pity kids who are younger than me, 'cause they missed out on a lot of cool stuff and instead get Harry Potter.
-
I actually have a friend who remembers Surge. I don't remember ever drinking it. Also, Rocko was (is if I can find when it's on on Nicktoons Network) awesome.
-
Hey, Harry Potter ain't bad. (NOTE: I am not a rabid fan, but I have found the books to be enjoyable)
Surge on the other hand. I'm a dude, and as a dude, I go through urban legend warning steps to make sure that I stay at least as much of a man as I already am. So Surge...no.
-
Surge is fine, stop drinking water
-
Woah, so I'm not alone in loving Godzilla: The Animated Series?
This is absolutely great. Next, someone's going to come up to me and tell me Surge was their favorite drink.
I drank Surge (though Coke is my favorite), watched Godzilla, played Duke Nukem, had Buzz Lightyear toys, and occasionally (by accident, really) listened to the Spice Girls. Sometimes at the same time. And yet I'm interested in the '80s. Odd.
-
I was subjected to Spice World a million times because my sister watched it at least once each day. I love the Spice Girls.
-
I had a crush on Baby Spice, but then again who didn't?
Also, the first Harry Potter book was published in 1997, so it still part of the 90's.
-
I had a crush on Baby Spice, but then again who didn't?
I didn't. All of them were pretty ugly in my opinion. :D
-
I agree, Vidgmchrt :D.
-
It's all about looks with you people. Didn't any of you bother to consider that maybe he was attracted to Baby Spice's personality?
-
Not actually. I wouldn't go around saying that as it is most certainly a lie.
I was waaay younger, and their looks actually scared me. Most of the time, anyways.
-
Yeah, plus they were British. British pop groups are inherently annoying and will almost always fall apart within five years of forming. Speaking of which, anyone remember S Club Seven? Y'know, 'cause...I don't. I mean, I do, but I care not to.
-
Personality? Guys actually like that in a girl?
Besides, her best feature was her hair. Especially when she had it in that schoolgirl pigtails style.
-
Furbies are cool.
-
Oh Mighty Max was the best toy ever. Does anyone here remember Mighty Max?
-
Furbies are cool.
I can't say that the interactive animal robot toys were my favorite part of the 90's.
-
I remember all the weird board games. Those games were freaky.
-
Furbies are cool.
I rather liked them. I had a Furby for a long time, but I don't remember what happened to it.
-
You know, I did some of my best living in the 90's.
-
"error message $#&%! I had a great thing to contribue on this, and now it's gone. Makes me want to throw my Wiimote into the TV out of frustration!
-
Heh heh heh. If that Yoshi55 fellow were still here, he'd be biting our heads off and constantly posting about how much the 90's sucked and would be worshipping the 80's (and Ronald Reagan, of coarse).
Anyway, the 90's were awesome. You had the SNES, The Virtual Boy, N64, Futurama, Beavis and Butt-head, Pokemon, virtual pets, etc. Of coarse, there were also some bad times, including Sonic SatAM being cancelled and the Dregg saga of TMNT. I'd say more, but I can't really think of any. :P
-
The 90's Rocked! Oh, wait. They Grunged!
-
there were also some bad times, including Sonic SatAM being cancelled
Only in favor of Power Rangers, which still blows my mind to this day.
-
Futurama was barely in the 90's 1999-2003!
-
...Spongebob.
-
Rugrats!!! (I hated Spongebob)
-
Man, Nickelodeon ruined the crap outta Rugrats. I never watch it anymore, as all they show is live-action teen pop sitcom crap and crappy animated Mucha Lucha ripoff crap. And other assorted crap. It's a veritable goodie bag of crap.
-
I agree with you, but Ned's Declasified and Drake and josh are pretty cool!
-
I respect your opinions, but WHAT?!?!??!!
-
Out of all of the random things that spawned out of the 90's, Spongebob was, by far, the worst.
-
I agree with you, but Ned's Declasified and Drake and josh are pretty cool!
Yeah, other than those two shows, Nick (other than Nicktoons Network, and maybe Nick GaS, if they still offer that channel) has gone the way of the '90's being-them-ness.
There, happy now, Vid?
-
*ahem*
(Just a note, the apostrophe does not go after the number when referring to years. It goes before it. You're implying that the decade had owned something....)
-
Only in favor of Power Rangers, which still blows my mind to this day.
I heard it was more because CBS didn't really like it, as they forced DiC to make AoStH simply because SatAM was too dark.Out of all of the random things that spawned out of the 90's, Spongebob was, by far, the worst.
I think you're making too much of a stretch with that statement. Plus, Spongebob really peaked in the early 00's.
-
SatAM's cancellation had a number of factors behind it besides just losing to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers ratings wise. There's the fact that ABC had a policy of keeping their shows on the air for only 2 seasons.
Also:
Out of all of the random things that spawned out of the 90's, Spongebob was, by far, the worst.
No.
Speaking of old cartoons, I really loved the golden years of Cartoon Network. Back when Toonami was still weekdays, Cartoon Theatre aired every Saturday, and Fridays were reserved for Cartoon Cartoons. My school work went extremely downhill due to my excessive viewing of Cartoon Network. I was also probably the only boy in class that took pride in watching Powerpuff Girls.
-
Spongebob, in my opinion, is hilarious. I can't imagine anyone who hasn't laughed at least once at the show, unless they have a VERY selective sence of humor.
-
When I think of the 90's, I think of....
-When Bill Clinton was our president, and wasn't stupid
-Getting up early on Saturday Morning to Watch Cartoons, or shows in general, which include
-Ah! Real Monsters
-Rugrats
-Muppet Babies
-Chip and Dale
-Doug
-Duck Tales
-Ren And Stimpy
-Rocko's Modern Life
-Earth Worm Jim
-The Tick
-X-Men

-Batman
-Gargoyles
-STREET SHARKS!

-Connect 4
-Ooey Gooey Looey
-Trouble
-Sorry!
-Don't Spill the Beans
-Don't Wake Daddy!

-Mighty Max
-Power Ranger Toys
-Someone Should add on to these lists but theres so much I loved about the 90's, but so much that I have forgotten
-One more thing is not having to think about war all the time, nobody (well atleast in the US) was concerned about our people being killed, we were almost esentially worry free, and I miss that feeling.
-
I hate the new Rugrats. It's horrid. I LOVE THE POWER RANGERS AND TMNT! They rock and uh, you don't.
A lot of these new shows are crap. The old Disney Channel was something I loved. All the new shows are DUMB!
-
Hmm, I can see that pt_peach prefers the shoes with age. :P
-
Shoes are dumb. Let's all go to school in socks.
-
XD XD XD :D :D :D :P! My mistake! *edits* Hilarious mistake.
-
Christopher Columbus came to America in the '90s.
-
One thing that I have bad memories of from the '90s is Action Man. That show was so absolutely stupidly derivative of pretty much everything else in the '90s that, even as a kid, I never watched it. Digimon was a better investment of time than Action Man, unless you count the later seasons (anything after the second). They were just too serious, and serious + kids' anime + goofy plot involving digital worlds = C.R.A.P.
-
Digimon was sooo cool! My mom stopped us from watching Pokemon. It distracted us to much. It wasn't my fave, anyways.
-
Spongebob, in my opinion, is hilarious. I can't imagine anyone who hasn't laughed at least once at the show, unless they have a VERY selective sence of humor.
You're looking at someone who has never laughed at Spongebob right now. :D

You win, especially for this:
-Bobby's World
:D
-
You're looking at someone who has never laughed at Spongebob right now. :D
o_0. Never ever for ever never for never?
Well, the episodes they're making now are stupid anyway. Something I hated from the 90's were all those crappy games that tried to rip off Mario 64 but failed. Bubsy 3-D, Crash Bandicoot and Gex 64 were all games that I tried thinking they'd be cool, but weren't.
-
You know, a lot of good Game Boy games came out in the '90s.
-
Yeah. Tetris was really the only GB game you'd ever need, though. Yes, Tetris is better than SML. Sue me.
-
I'm not even going to disagree with the idea that Tetris is the best Game Boy game, but I will say that SML wasn't very good in the first place.
-
SML2 was awesome, but I didn't really like the first.
-
I almost forgot, 1996 was the year God (aka Kurt Angle) won a gold medal in the Olympics, and then made his professional wrestling debut in 1999.
(https://themushroomkingdom.net/board/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi52.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg16%2FMidgetBottle%2FKurt_Angle_-_Kurt_Angle_10.jpg&hash=08d0cc957f0d7caad117588829047260)
All that gold looked great on him.
-
He had hair!
-
Reminds me of a certain Paper Mario character...
-
I loved the Power Rangers. I loved them all the way up until after Dino Force (in 2005) because then the rest sucked. Now they've got Mystic Force, the police, etc., etc. I don't like them :(
-
Naw, that guy doesn't have feathers. Anyway, wow, I didn't realize how young everyone here was. I'm from '91.
The thing that I was most upset about in the '90s was when they took Disney Afternoons off the air. That and Magic School Bus (this was when I was young). The '90s only rocked because they had Mega Man 4 and the SNES in them.
WHAT'S WRONG WITH SPONGEBOB?
-
I loved the Power Rangers. I loved them all the way up until after Dino Force (in 2005) because then the rest sucked. Now they've got Mystic Force, the police, etc., etc. I don't like them :(
*WARNING: I'm entering extreme fanboy mode*
It's Dino THUNDER, Not Dino Force. Also, it's S.P.D. or Space Patrol Delta, not the police! Also, the series took plunges way before Tommy returned to help kids in New Zealand passing off as americans. Zeo was horribly written, Turbo had the worst transition ever, Lightspeed Rescue is unfavorably bashed for being man-made technology not related to the original rangers, and Wild Force was plagued with horrible acting and writing due to Judd Lynn leaving as head writer.
Also, Ninja Storm sucked for being goofy and cliche though I'll give it some credit for having awesome suits.
Also, I've been saying also too much so I'll stop and say Disney has given me the finger by relegating all things Power Rangers and Saban related to Toon Disney, which I do not have. Screw you Corporate Mouse, I hope you sleep well at night knowing you can't make a good film to save your lives anymore and those that do make money are forced sequels that aren't even close to being as good as the original films.
Ok, I'm done.
-
By saying 'the police', I was referring to the patrol because I forgot what the name was called. Thunder slipped my mind, sorry bout that Mr. Wiggles.
Relating to your post, you got me there. Ninja Force wasn't that great but I liked Wild Force, Time Force, and Lightspeed Rescue. The first season of Power Rangers was nice, although I only watched it the reruns and tapes because the time that it ran was 1993-96, and I wouldn't remember it, because it was from the time I was born up until I was three. I just realized that the Power Ranger seasons that I watched were in the 2000's, besides the tapes of the older ones. This is...embarrassing.
-
Not a lot of Game Boy games are good.
Most of the Mega Man GB games are good. Tetris is good. Not much else. Super Mario Land is decent enough. DK'94, I guess.
So yeah, the '90s were good for like, the SNES and stuff.
Also, calling Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers the "first season" is really funny because it was just the latest sentai show at that time (there had been many before it) and basically they took the Japanese show and made it into something way less cool. Anyway, it really wasn't very "first" at all.
-
In my opinion, the '90s were the best year for arcades, save the late '80s. I remember going to the arcade at the mall and wasting monumental amounts of money on Mortal Kombat II, Crisis Zone (which was better than Time Crisis, in my opinion), Virtua Cop, Virtua Fighter, S.T.U.N. Runner and lots of others. The '90s was truly the best decade.
-
Street fighter! It had to be the best arcade game of that era.
-
You mean Steet Fighter Alpha 3, now that was the best arcade game of that era, with Marvel vs. Capcom 2 at a close second.
-
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 came out in the '00s, brother! You can't bring dat weak sauce in here. You gots ta play Marvel vs. Capcom ONE.
And you shall lose to my Chun-Li/Morrigan combo of doom.
LP,MK,B,MP,HK ETERNAL SLUMBER (best move of game)
-
I find it humorous that most of the comments coming from this thread stating that the '90s was the best ever are coming from people who didn't experiance anything but the '90s, and the latter part at that. I couldn't say that the '90s are any better or worse than other decades because I only remember the last 4, maybe 5, years of the '90s, and this decade isn't over yet, so I am unable to look at it as a decade, but rather a collection of years. Okay, I'm done reflecting on a silly thread in a forum full of people that have no interest in my little rants...man I need some sleep...
-
Yes, you do. But you're right, the '90s was no better than the '80s or '70s. Well, actually, the '70s sucked. Except for the whole, y'know, invention of the modern video game thing.
-
basically they took the Japanese show and made it into something way less cool.
Everytime I hear this line, I laugh. Why? Because it really doesn't matter whether you're watching Sentai or Power Rangers. At the end of the day, you're still watching a Toku show about spandex heroes fighting rubber monsters in cardboard city sets.
-
To think that outclassed a show about a speedy blue hedgehog who was actually cool.
-
I love that phrase. "Was cool."
You know, we're going to have a thread exactly like this in three years. The '00s. Except that no one will know how it should be written, so it'll still be "The 00's".
-
Yep, soon people will be like, "Dude, remember when cars, like, didn't fly? And when the PS4 didn't directly link your brain into a superadvanced hive mind of brainless zombie slaves? Oh, right, they didn't have the PS4 back then."
-
To think that outclassed a show about a speedy blue hedgehog who was actually cool.
It didn't. There were many other reasons why it was canned.
-
I know I'm just a biased fanboy, but there was no good reason to cancel that cartoon.
-
Everytime I hear this line, I laugh. Why? Because it really doesn't matter whether you're watching Sentai or Power Rangers. At the end of the day, you're still watching a Toku show about spandex heroes fighting rubber monsters in cardboard city sets.
Yeah, but I only hate the American part.
-
Man, I never imagined Power Rangers would be this polarizing.
-
To think, I used to love it to death when I was a youngun.
-
Chup hates the American part? ZOMG Traitor terrorist supporter!!!1111
No seriously, I can see why some people would prefer Sentai to Power Rangers. But you can't tell me with a straight face that Gingaman was better than Lost Galaxy.
-
I never really followed the plot of the show. I just played with the Taco Bell and Burger King kid's toys. Remember those weird metal Digimon trading cards from Taco Bell? Those pwned.
-
I born in 1982, so I live all my youth in the 90's , so I can say it rocks.
Discos, videogames, travels, music, girls, all in the 90's. The 00's are boring compared with 90's.
-
Not a lot of Game Boy games are good.
Most of the Mega Man GB games are good. Tetris is good. Not much else. Super Mario Land is decent enough. DK'94, I guess.
You DARE insult the awesomeness of Mario's Picross?!
And there's no such thing as DK'94. Related phrases are Windows 95 or DK64. Unless 94 is just one I've never heard of. (I don't know how that six got turned upside-down)
Oh yeah, and the Virtual Boy was in the '90s. Virtual Boy pwns.
-
I've heard DK '94 (or maybe '96) called a predecessor to Mario vs. Donkey Kong; the first set of stages is the arcade classic (except that the special moves used to make the later stages easier, such as the backflip, are already usable), followed by stages similar to those that would later be seen in MvDK, except without Mini Marios. Also, if memory serves correctly, it was the first game to have a special color scheme when played on the Super Game Boy.
The '90s had Yoshi.
-
DK'94 is more or less a retelling of the DK arcade game, with over 100 levels of key-to-door manipulation, ape battling, and Pauling-saving. "94 isn't it's official name, it's just called Donker Kong on the title screen and on the box, but we call it '94 to differentiate it from it's arcade predecessor, and because it was released in 1994.
-
Obviously, if Mario's Picross is good, it goes in the "else" category. With not much besides it. Got it?
-
And obviously too much of the thread was devoted to the other obvious game (or games, evidently) in the "else" category.
-
I used to watch my dad and my brother and sister play Mortal Kombat. I didn't play, but it entertained me. I was really little back then.
-
There's a K in "Kombat". Also, due to the fleeting nature of the '90s, I can't write anything else for this thread. Because, y'know, I have a bad memory.
-
I just had a little brainfart: if people in the '80s were Generation X, and '90s kids were Generation Y, then who's Generation Z? And then after that, will we wrap around to Generation A, or will it be Generation Omega (which sounds like a sci-fi RPG) or something like that?
-
Generations don't change within decades. Generation X starts back farther than the '80s.
-
Oh THAT DK'94. I like that game. I've just never heard it called that.
And I figured Picross went in the "else" category, but I had to say it anyway.
-
I thought this current generation is called the iGeneration, or was it MyGeneration? Something like that. It has to do with either the iPod or MySpace.
-
I heard that the generation born after 1995 are the "Millenium kids". That's the furthest I know of. iGeneration would be a cool name for the generation afterwards, though.
Anyway, I don't think I've contributed to this topic yet, so I might as well post something. I was born in 1993, so I got to experience the late 90's. I remember watching stuff like Pokemon, Digimon (which, IMO, was far better than pokemon), Powerpuff girls, Dexter's Labortory, Cow and Chicken and other shows. I wasn't too much into console gaming other than watching my cousin play Crash Bandicoot among other Playstation games ( I honestly thought that Playstation was a Nintendo console). I did have my trusty Game Boy with games like Space Invaders and Kirby's Dreamlad 2 among others. Those were good times.
-
I'd prefer to call this generation One Messed Up Generation, but whatever.
-
I think they haven't come up with a name for it yet.
I sure hope they don't.
-
What about, the 00's?
-
That's our current decade. I think that, in a sense, Generation Y ended on 9/11 because it completely changed a lot of attitudes towards a lot of things. Before that, everyone was sort of cocky; after 9/11, a lot of people were either somber because of the tragedy, thinking no one was allowed to have fun because of it, or completely freaking paranoid and over-patriotic, driving to Wal-Mart in an armored red, white and blue Humvee to buy supplies to stockpile in their basement because the terror scale was red, or something. What I hated most about that was, it wasn't sort of fun, not-really-paranoid paranoia, like with the Y2K bug burninating the world.
-

MyPod? ISpace? MISpace? YPod?
-
None of those "words" have generation in them, so no.
-
There were these barbies...Generation girls. I can't remember if they were from the 90's or not. But it was in a time when I still like Barbie Dolls. I think the gravestone of that girl went something like "PtPeach: Barbie Lover 1993-2004"
-
Yeah, I remember when wrestling was awesome back in the '90s and even the early '00s. I stopped watching because everything went to crap. Then I turned on RAW after all these months only to discover Donald Trump is fighting Vince McMahon in a hair vs hair match at Wrestlemania. Weird crap, man.
-
Actually, I know people who would probably pay to see that match.
TMK was started in the '90s, if no one has said that yet.
-
Really? I always thought it was started circa 2001, for no particular reason. But this cements the '90s's ('90s'? 9'0z?) reputation as being the best decade since the 1670s. The 1670s were really awesome.
-
How would you know? you where not in that time!
-
I was born in 1996. And was already bored.
-
Wow, you were only about a year old when Deezer created this site.
I'm still weirded out by people who are about as old as the site itself. O_O
-
I think what was weird was coolkid, who is younger than TMK.
-
I'm glad I was inactive during the visitation of that Crazy Newbie to these forums.
-
Well, I wouldn't consider him a newbie, just a little kid who acted like a kid in a forum. Well, mabye he then is a newbie.
-
He wasn't just a newbie, which is a new person, he was a n00b, which is someone who knows nothing about nothing.
-
Are yoy calling him stupid? Oh boy...
-
He wasn't just a newbie, which is a new person, he was a n00b, which is someone who knows nothing about nothing.
So he knew everything?
-
No, because the second use of "nothing" there is as a noun. So, n00bs don't know what "nothing" is.
-
n00bs are also ignorant, as well as really bad typists.
-
But they contain unharnessed energy that taps into the vast knowledge of the farthest outer reaches of the infinitest planes of existance!
-
But nobody knows how to harness it, so that doesn't matter.
-
If you ever do manage to harness that energy, please let me know. I could use that technique to tap into my sibling's (who is NOT from the 90's) energy resource....
When did the word n00b come into existence anyway?
-
I think someone was abbreviating newbie as newb, and then that got 1337ified into n00b, which degraded over time into a derogatory term.
The '90s had at least TWO nines in the date at any given time. Take that, 1800s!
-
Another reason the '90s rocked: I was born in '92. That alone makes 1992 the best year ever ever ever.
-
1991 > 1992, simply because I was born then.
-
1991 > 1992, simply because I was born then.
I concur with that, since I was also born then. Besides that, unless I'm mistaken the SNES and Mega Man IV also came out that year. That makes it pwn just that much more.
-
I liked Gulla Gulla Island. It helped me develop the freakishly scary smile that I have today. You all haven't seen this smile...My older sister told me I looked creepy and not to use it.
Well, well! I remember when they were still making new episodes, and I was 5 in the last season!
-
1990 must have been better since Mega Man III came out then. And it's better than Mega Man IV.
-
That's using the Mega Man quality scale?
-
Right. It goes something like
Mega Man III == Mega Man II > Mega Man V == Mega Man VI > Mega Man IV == Mega Man.
-
So III and II are the best in your opinion?
-
You know, I should have made VI come before V, and Mega Man come before Mega Man IV, but yeah. 2 and 3 are the best NES ones. 6 is also quite good.
-
My NES scale: Mega Man IV == Mega Man V > Mega Man II == Mega Man > Mega Man VI == Mega Man III
-
Let the Great Battle of Mega Man IV Goodness commence!
-
My NES scale: Super Mario Bros == SMB2 == SMB3 > everything else
-
That's a pretty biased scale right there.
-
Yup. What I can say? I like my Mario games. :)
-
My scale: Wrecking Crew > any other NES game.
Yeah. It's that underappreciated.
-
It's actually not.
-
Then how come I never see anyone talk about it like other games?
