Title: the mario trivia game!!!!
Post by: Super Mario 3 Master on June 12, 2002, 05:34:43 PM
heres how it works:
someone asks a mario question then someone answers it. if they get it right then they ask a question. there's no real point to the game except to have fun.

Are people around you aware that Mario is a touchy subject?

Foster parent, you mean the one that raised him? That would be Frogfucious.

If this is correct (I know it is) I'll post my question tomorrow.

What about the Blue Yoshi in SMW?

You have a point, but because I got that one right, I get this question.

In SMW2, What is the only (to my knowledge, which is rather vast) level in the entire game with 2 different distinct goal rings?

Oh! I just thought it was called YOSHIS ISLAND, but in that game arent mario and luigi babies???

Because if they are, in SUPER MARIO WORLD(1)they are adults, how could they turn from Adults to to babies??? thats what gets me!

Kirby-101, don't you ever pay attention? If you are a true Mario Fan, then you would know that Yoshi's Island is a PREQUEL, meaning it takes place BEFORE any other Mario game... That is why the Mario brothers [and Bowser for that matter] are babies.

Also, Yoshi's Story is the SEQUEL to Yoshi's Island; and like YI, it is a PREQUEL to all the other games.

Yes, It is going to be SMA3. And I am likely one of the few people that welcome this, seeing as how I like SMW2 more than SMB3.

MEANWHILE: Back on topic:

If no one gets it by tomorrow I am going to say the answer and make a new question.

I knew it would get figured out eventually. CashCrazed is correct.

In 4-3, there is a bonus area with a balloon (the one you ground pound to inflate) and a row of coins. At the end of this, there are 5 red coins (I think) and a Goal Ring. If you fall, you drop down a hole, and if you go all the way to the right of the lvl, there is another, different Goal Ring. Check for yourself.

CashCrazed gets the next question, if he is interested.

Okay, here's my question . . . I have no idea how easy or hard it is but it's the first one that popped into my head.  The last star on Tall Tall Mountain in Super Mario 64 is called "Blast to the Lonely Mushroom," and you get to it using the cannon . . . right?  But there is another way to do it, a much easier way.  Can you tell me the other way to reach the Lonely Mushroom?

Well, it's A way, so I'm still going to ask a question.

Question:
On the the map screen of the last world of Super Mario World 2, Yoshi's Island, there is a strange occurance with the Yoshi on the final level.  When you enter the world, the Yoshi is green, but after beating any level in the world up to a point, the Yoshi is the normal castle color, purple.  After what level does the Yoshi turn green again?

Title: Re: the mario trivia game!!!!
Post by: Insane Steve on July 29, 2002, 06:26:48 PM
Fifth, the default castle color is NOT purple. It is dark blue. At least it is in my game; The purple Yoshi plays the x-5 levels.

Back on topic, can you clarify your question? Are you refering to the fact that green Yoshi plays 6-8 and not any other x-8 levels?

Or something else I missed entirely...?

Meh, it's purple in my opinion.  I'm the same way about Mario Kart 64's blue spiny shell.

Anyway, what I'm referring to is the fact that, while the castle Yoshi color is green in that world when you come into it, it turns dark blue on the map after beating some levels.  If you beat 6-1 and scroll over to look, it's dark blue.  If you beat 6-2, it's dark blue again.  The question is:  after which level does that Yoshi turn green again?

Go Moon!
Title: Re: the mario trivia game!!!!
Post by: Insane Steve on July 29, 2002, 09:12:39 PM
Interesting... Anyway:

I have a file at world 5-4 right now, but since I am too lazy to get that for real, I'll take an educated guess at it. Because it is the one level that seems to make sense:

6-7.

?

PS: Notice that the Yoshi colors for the x-2 and x-7 levels are switched on the map. I think (Don't quote me) for every map except that of World 1. For something who thought they knew EVERYTHING about YI: You sure but me back where I kind of belong.

Half right, but my way actually is a lot easier.  You get to the log, lead the Flyguy thing (Mr Fuwafuwa?) onto it, jump onto its head, pop up, and softly glide to the mushroom.

As for this question, I have no idea.  I never even noticed the Yoshi colors.

I was right? Wow.... My reasoning was that the Yoshies thought that the Dark Blue Yoshi Was at 6-8 until they saw green Yoshi at 6-7... so..... thus my answer.

Anyway my question, and I think it is TWICE as hard as the last one....

In Tetris Attack PUZZLE mode, There is one and only one level that can be cleared in fewer moves than are given to you. Which one? I need the Stage, level, and puzzle set.

For example: 1-3, set 1
or
6-9, set 2.

Mario game = Any game with one of the 8 major Mario characters in it, as defined by being one of the 8 playable drivers in MK64.

Tetris Attack is, in my opinion, a Mario game, because there is a MAJOR Mario character in it.

Therefore, I refuse to withdraw my question. But, JUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUST for you, I made a MARIO question. *Cynics away!*

(PS the question is NOT yours if you get it. My original question, for the right to ask the next question, is the Tetris Attack one. I refuse to withdraw it.)

In Yoshi's Island, name the only level with more than 20 red coins. Then give the location of the most commonly missed one. (Yes, there is a DEFINATE most commonly missed one. It is very well hidden.)

HOWEVER: The Tetris Attack one is for the right to ask the next question.

I was trying to find the answer to your question, Insane Steve, but I hadn't yet.  Oh, well.
I got stuck simply trying to FINISH some of those later levels, so it would probably have taken too long anyway.

To answer the fuzzy/dizzy question, that would be levels 1-7, 4-1, and 6-3.

That is correct. (6-3 is my 3rd favorite level in YI too, I may add.) Fifth, State your question.

PS: The 21 red coin level is Extra 3.

Alright, here's a rather simple Smash Bros. Melee (I'm considering it Mario enough) question.  It's 50/50, so I'd rather someone find out the answer than guess.

Question:
In Smash Bros. Melee, which item increases a character's mass more, a super 'shroom or a metal box?

Metal Box!

I found the answer here:

Someone had a lot of time on their hands.  Of course, I had the time to go FIND the FAQ, soooo . . .

Well, ok, I'll take it. I found this out when I was bored today.

What is the FASTEST way to die in world 6-6 of Yoshi's Island? I have a specific way in mind.

Ya, most of my questions are on Yoshi's Island, but it is the game I know the most about.

Heh, and if you do it at the beginning or end of the cave in 1-3, you get an even more interesting result. That is correct.

Man, you seem to know way too much about that game lol, I didn't think anyone would get that, at least not on the first try... I call that the "Mob Burial" death, because when you do it, you literally wind up 6 feet under. (Every so often you can see Yoshi's head of the left side of the screen.)

Heh, I came up with a great new I idea for a signature, lol

I have a correction to make...

The Nintendo 64's original code name was Project Reality. When the system was about to be released, it was called Nintendo Ultra 64. As a last-minute change, Nintendo dropped the "Ultra" from it's name and simply called it Nintendo 64.

I have 2 questions for you guys...
1. Super Mario 64--in the Big Boo's Haunt level, what is the quickest way to get to the adjacent platform with the Blue !-Block on the second floor in the lobby?

2. What is the only Mario game that has an enemy from Kirby's Dreamland?

My guess is Super Mario World, because when you look at them, the ghosts just SIT there, they don't do anything to shy away.

Or, my secondary guess is in the Running of the Bulb game in Mario Party 1.

Post by: Fifth on August 04, 2002, 11:48:49 PM
I only added "face" because the ghosts in SM64 will keep moving if they don't notice Mario facing them.
And neither of those were the game I was thinking of, Insane Steve, though it seems that there are a lot more technicalities than I'd planned, so I suppose I'll give the answer:

Yoshi's Island.  The key word was Mario.
When Yoshi's standing still or moving slowly, Mario sits on his back facing the other direction.  The boos couldn't care less if Mario sees them, as long as they can still surprise Yoshi.

And on that note, the Mariopedia still says that one "stops moving when Mario looks at it."  A copy/paste error, I presume.

So I guess the question'll be open to whomever gets to it or deems him or herself most accurate.

*In honor of my newest goal, to beat yoshi's Island with my FEET:*

Correct the error in this poem found SOMEWHERE in Yoshi's Island:

Roses are red, violets are blue,
Never forget what I've said to you,
Timing is all, and aim true,
Measure the angle, and win, do!

And while you're at it, name the level too.

Hmmm... I know I've heard that, and I've got a hunch as to in what level...
Time to check!

...

Yosh!  It's from 3-8, Naval Piranha's Castle, and instead of "what I've said to you," it reads "what I say to you."  There's also a comma after "forget" for some reason.

And I'll need to think of another question.  Perhaps I can include a game other than Yoshi's Island this time...

I see you pay attention to detail. Of course the "angle" thing kinda gives away the level, but still..... That is right. The comma I didn't notice.

PS: I am currently at 2-4 in my quest to beat YI with my feet. I have 100s on 1-1 and 1-7... and a 39 on 1-5. :\

You can go ahead and take the question, MadMario.  I still need to think of a good one to ask, and it'd be better if there were an open question to be answered.

And the comma doesn't fit, gramatically.  It just seems to be put in because it was at the end of a line (the talk box's line.)
Of course, the poem wasn't all too iambically sound to begin with.  I blame translation.

BOO YA! I amazed even myself by getting to the warp in World 4-2, so now I'm on World 6! Might never have happened without my trusted friend Starman. I sure wish you got more lives, though, because just about every time I would beat 4-1 with my feet, I would only have around 2 of my lives left. I severely doubt I'll get any farther than this, since even going to World 5 to get the warp in 5-3 is out of my reach, mainly because the pit jumping in 5-1 is already hard enough normally. Although beating SMB2 with my feet would make me a champion among men(well, at least SMB2 fans), since some people can't even beat it with their HANDS, it will never happen because on the astronomical chance I actually would MAKE it to World 7 with my feet, the Dream Factory(a.k.a. World 7-2) is already very hard to get through normally, and Wart alone would easily be too much for me and my feet to handle.

Hey, seeing how far you can get through your favorite Mario game with your feet seems like a good forum challenege. It's also a great test of your foot-eye coordination(although if the controllers were meant for feet it would be a lot easier! Too bad I don't have an SNES fitness mat, if they even exist!). I think SM64 would also be an easier one, since the N64 analog stick would make for better use with feet than D-pads, as would the buttons that stick out a good enough distance from the controller.

I hate to say it, but you forgot 1 MAJOR detail to beat SM64 with your feet.

HOW ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO ACCESS THE "Z" BUTTON TO PERFORM ALL THE DIFFERENT JUMP KINDS?
It is impossible to get that back button.

Anyway, another reason I prefer Yoshi's Island for feet beating is because the "L" and "R" buttons are not that important, so... You can reach all important buttons with your feet easily and without pulling something... oh yea, I beat 3-4 somehow and am on to the hardest level to beat with your feet until 4-4 in my opinion, 3-5. Other levels I think I may have a hard time with:

4-3
4-4
4-8 (The boss may actually pose a challenge)
5-3
5-7 (The last part)
5-8 (See 4-8)
6-3 (I bet this one will be the hardest in the game.... maybe 6-7, but still)
6-5 (Ugh..... self-scroller)
6-7 (see comment for 6-3)

The rest of the levels should be EASY.

Ok, now I am scared. That is correct; Extra 5 is the only Extra level without a 3-word title. See:

E1: Poochy ain't Stupid
E2: Hit that Switch!
E3: More Monkey Madness
E4: The Impossible? Maze
-E5: Kamek's Revenge-
E6: Castles: Masterpiece Set

You don't even have to beat the levels to get that. I will someday come up with a YI question Fifth DOESN'T know... someday. (I hope)

Kweh!
Hmm... I hope no one minds if my next question takes the form of a riddle.  I made it for a "guess the Mario enemy" thread a while back, but no one ever attempted a guess.  And, since it'd be a shame to waste a perfectly good riddle...

Question:
What Mario enemy is this:

With lethal treads, for Mar'io heads this fiendish goomba mount,
But goomba shown by Mar'io's own 'pon fealty cannot count.

Go Moon!
Title: Re: the mario trivia game!!!!
Post by: frostbite on August 14, 2002, 12:30:58 PM
Let's break it down:

[With lethal treads,

Lethal means deadly
Tread is to walk

With deadly walking,]

[for Mar'io heads this fiendish goomba mount,

Head is to lead or rule
Fiendish is evil
Mount means to sit on, or it could be short for mountain

With deadly walking, for Mario rules this evil goomba mountain]

[But goomba shown by Mar'io's own 'pon fealty cannot count.

Fealty is faithfulness
'pon is short for up

With deadly walking, for Mario rules this evil goomba mountain, but goomba shown by Mario's own upon faithfulness cannot count.]

The goomba can't count upon Mario's faithfulness.

When would a Mario be unfaithful to a Goomba? He doesn't have much faith in the Goombas, except for Goombario.

"goomba shown by Mario's own"

Mario must be showing Goombario that he isn't faithful in order for him to not be able to count on Mario.

And how does this fit in with the evil Goomba mountain?

[With deadly walking, for Mario rules this evil goomba mountain, but Goombario is shown that he can't count on Mario's faithfulness.]

Evil mountain where Goombario can't count on Mario's faithfulness....

What mountains in Paper Mario?

The ice mountain! The Crystal Palace!

When in the Crystal Palace can Goombario not count on Mario's faithfulness? When the Duplighost turns into Goombario!

The answer is Duplighost!!

Wow, that's really interesting!
That's a great train of logic and deciphering there, but, unfortunately, a few of your assumptions were incorrect, such as  the mount referring to the "mountain" definition, and the fealty being that of Mario to goomba.
Hence, the answer is not duplighost.

That was one of the most thought out things I have ever seen. And you all bash frostbite... he is possibly one of the most intelligent members here!

Anyway, I see a few things that interest me.

I notice an ' between the r and the i in Mario. It breaks into "Mar" and "Io" Mar is Spanish for "Sea". And I doubt this means ANYTHING, but Io is a moon of Jupiter.

My initial guess (I  SEVERLY doubt it's right) Is the Goomba King from PM. The "mount" is the Goomba King's shoddily built castle, and "'pon" or up, is that nut in the tree, which the King uses to hit Mario, but if Mario attacks the tree, it turns on him and attacks him, thus meaning a lack of loyalty on the tree's part. Of course, Goombario is the only member of the party you have at the time, and he is attacking one of his own race... As for the lethal treads, the Goomba King (I think) said he'd stomp Mario or something like that.

Again, it is only a thoery, and without frostbite, I would have though 'pon was short for "weapon". And there'd be a few words I wouldn't know the meanings to as well.

He said that "mount" does not mean for mountain. It could mean amount or to sit on. Amount of evil goombas...
What could it mean?

Yeah, it is kuribo's shoe.  Wanwan gets it.  The ' in Mario was for a contraction, to shorten it to two syllabals without leaving out any letters.
And I wasn't "bashing" frostbite.  I almost wanted to give him the question just for the effort he put into it.
But that'd go against the spirit of this thread...

So now I have two wins and still no question . . . nah, I'll come up with something.  In fact, I do actually have a question, but I will have to research the answer with a little game playing tonight.  So you should have it by the end of the night or tomorrow at the latest.  I will give you this:  It's a YI question.  And will probably be something that requires a bit of playing, unless you're obsessed enough to have already gone and done this little experiment and recorded the answer, which I would not put past a few of you.  Or myself, even.  ;)

Kudos to Insane Steve and frostbite on those hugely detailed and logical answers . . . always a shame to see the slackers prevail (I only actually read the first half of the riddle, y'see).

Hey, if I am obsessed enough to try to beat YI with my feet (I am almost done with World 4) and realize that Extra 3 has 21 red coins and the Extra 5 is the only level without a 3 word title, and of course, the Chomp Rock trick in 6-6 (My favorite glitch int the game, and I found it WITHOUT ANY HELP! HAHAHAHA) I SHOULD be able to get your question (maybe, of course, Fifth seems to know way too much about YI as well) but as you said, It'll require some playing most likely... please ask it today though! I want to see it before Fifth answers it!

PS: I thought it was Kuribo's Shoe when I read your answer, but since guessing the same thing you did would be futile, I had to come up with SOMETHING. I still like frostbite's answer though.

Curiously, was the question "What level of YI has the most coins, and how many does it have?" I venture to guess 2-1 or 4-3, but... that is likely not even the question, anyway, since frostbite got the last one right (I assume), he has the next question.

PS: I said 3-1 for the level. I am almost certain that is correct.

Well, frostbite, there are THREE (at least!) such levels.

1-7, push that guy that rolls up into a ball next to the shy guy pipe, and let him take out the enemies for 999 lives.

4-1, take a Koopa Shell and bump it between the two pipes. One is a Shy Guy spawn spot, and should push Shy Guys in between the two pipes. They'll be bowled over by the shell. Wait until you have 999 lives.

4-5. Similar to 1-7, there is a Shy Guy regen pipe near the end of the level... and one of those ball guys is near it. Same as 1-7 for the trick.

Those are the 3 I know without looking it up, there my be more, but you asked for at least 2. (I think)

Nah, that wasn't it, but it was pretty close.  The question was "How many points is it possible to rack up at one time?"  Nevermind the fact that the goal ring only allows you 100 no matter what, I mean despite that.  Of course, I'm not entirely sure of the answer since I need to take a look at the game first . . . still, if you want something to do, play around with it a bit.

By the way, I had read those Japanese names for the courses on the site before and I just have to say that "Mario Staff is also Surprised Course" is the funniest thing ever, not including bad doujinshi.  They should have left the names that way for the American version . . .

I find the fact that Tubular is called "Pleasure Course" hilarious.

Anyway, I think the answer is 4-7, as there is a warp thingy to Word 1-1... Lemme think here...

30 Stars (use a +20 star item)!
27 Red Coins. (7 in 5-7, 20 in 1-1.)
7 Flowers (Again, 2 in 4-7, 5 in 1-1.)

I also know this is possible in 3-1...

But my answer would have to be 127. However, without the warp, it is possible to get 101 points in Extra 3, as there are 21 Red Coins... :P Actually, the game only gives you 100, but the game plays the "You found all 20 Red Coins" sound After your 20th and 21st coin.

*blinks*  Hello quick replier!

That was why I had to check . . . I'm not sure whether you can get more in 3-1, or how far ahead you can go in either and still be able to come back to the warp.  If there's no door that Xes behind you as you move on to another section of the level, it may be possible to get much more than 127 . . . but it's been forever since I played.  Of course, now that I've lost the buggered game (I love how the FF don't censor those words . . . ), how I long for the sound of Kamek's laughter.  *croons an awful folk song to express her pain*

Heh, ya, I don't remember 3-1 that well, as World 3 is my least favorite World in YI. I don't think that there are ANY X doors... The answer may be 170! I know 4-7 has the X door right before the Middle Ring.

Anyway... I see a lot of possibilities for YI questions, anyway, Here's one for you, if you can remember it well enough.

What distinguishes 4-4 of YI from all of the Fort/Castle levels? I am not looking for an answer like "Oh, it's the only one with Marching Milde at the end!"... I am not even looking for "It is the only one with that lava fish" Or Even "It is the only one with 4 keys."

I want something that EXISTS in every level of YI, but Is different in 4-4. It's hard to explain the question.

There are two levels, 1-2 and yes, 3-1. After you get out of cave in 1-2, there are NINE plants availble to get in one run with Sub-space, and the potion is on the hill, so it's not one of the plants. And since you can do two coin runs in a level with SMB2, the answer, therefore, is 18. But in 3-1, while there are far more plants to grab, with the way they are lined up it is only possible to get up to nine at a time.

Meh, I've been busy cleaning up HTML in the General Chat forum.  But your 4-4 question is kind of vague.  What's it got that the other castles have, but is different in this level?  That could be any number of things...  the normal level music at the beginning, a level you can go through in any order, a boss you can beat by eating...
I dunno.  If you want an answer, I think you'll have to be a bit more specific.

4-4 is the Frog Prince one, right? If that is correct then the answer is that instead of Kamek making the boss grow, he shrinks Yoshi and Baby Mario, and the battle takes place inside Frog Prince's belly.

"The address 'sad.gif' wouldn't make anything appear, unless there was an image of the same filename in the same directory as this board."

I have done this same img inside the secret forum, if it even IS the secret forum.

This may be a bit overdue, but Mario's "mount" is what he rides, in other words Yoshi.

Ya, you covered it by saying "The normal music in the beginning". Actually - The Frog Prince (Prince Froggy) level is 3-4, not 4-4.
But that is a good observation...

You have an answer for the other one?

MadMario. So you're saying that there is a sad.gif file in the same directory as the forum page? That's all I was trying to see. Oh, and it was a Goomba's mount, not Mario's.
Umm, Insane Steve, can you give me a hint as to what exactly the pattern is for?

No, I'm saying that you can show an image from A COMPLETLY DIFFERENT WEB SITE!

Ok, here's another hint.

The pattern requires knowledge of 2 Mario games to answer. The numbers and "X"s represent something in one of the games. The other is used to determine the number or "X" that is placed.

Now that the logic is given out, the trick is in finding the games and then what the symbols represent...

Here it is: one more time:

x x x x 5 10 x 9 x 8 x ___

I truly did make an EVIL question. No one got it for about a week now, so I reveal the answer.

The answer:

x x x x 5 10 x 9 x 8 x -12-

First, you take the 12 major bosses from YI, and put them in order.

Then, if the boss is NOT in Tetris Attack, an X is placed in the blank for that boss. If it IS in Tetris Attack, then the level of the stage you face it in in VS. mode is placed in the blank for the opponent. Boswer is the last boss in YI. And Bowser is Stage 12 of Tetris Attack. So, the answer is 12.

Ok, I came up with a question, it is of course on YI, but hey, I beat the game with my feet about 3 days ago, so....

There is a certain "something" in YI I am thinking about. It is in 2-6 and 4-3, but not in 4-4 or 6-5. It is also in 6-7, but a certain set of circumstances must come up for it to be in 6-7, and it isn't exactly the same as it is in 2-6 or 4-3. What is it, and what is different about it in 6-7?

(Oh ya, since SMS came out, if anyone posts an SMS question, I am not even going ot bother answering it. Don't be insulted; I don't own a "Cube because..... if you don't know by now, you don't go to General Chat.)

Nope, there is breakaway wall stuff in both 4-4 and 6-5.

You can guess as many times as you need. This is a difficult question though... you may wish to play all 5 levels in question again (I know, sitting through 6-5 sucks, but it might help...)

I guess that's my cue.
Mario Sunshine's been keeping me busy as of late, so I've not been around much; I'm only one shine and 17 blue coins away from completion!

Anyway: I'll need to check the levels...
*plays 6-7*
*plays 2-6*
*plays 4-*  Got it!
From what I can tell, the answer is the countdown block with the number 3 displayed on it.  Both 2-6 and 4-3 contain one, but for it to show up in 6-7, you need to jump off from the "4" countdown block and decrement it.

Heh, You didn't tell me what is different about it, but, seeing as how you know what it is already, I don't think you'll have a problem with it. That is correct, and the difference between the 6-7 one and the other 2 is that the numeral "3" is a different color (green opposed to black). Ask away.

The "Super" Triple Jump is what he does the whole time in SMS! Except without the sparkles. You notice, he keeps flipping until he lands, and doesn't stretch his arms out and say "Haha!" And YES, I got all 120 Stars, twice. Anyway, due to my mistake I still request that someone finish my answer. Sure, Ground Pound, swimming (partially), he jumps off trees with A, just the same in SM64... and the wrench is called "Gotcha Wrench."

You know the relation, that is good, but that is not who I was thining of. The magician (Whose name is Katsini, in case you are interested) is a cat, not a rabbit. I am looking for a rabbit. Yes, there is a character in 1P vs. mode that is a rabbit. That is who I am looking for.

Yes, and in Round Clear mode (I think that is what it is called), My high round is 107. (Yes, they go past 100!) In Time Race, I have a "Gold" rank on all three levels, (4:20 Easy, 8:17 Medium, 14:06 Hard)... so that is why I know this.

Anyway, you figured out the relation first, and the character I was looking for is "Harry H". He is the character immediatly before Wario in 1P vs. mode. (Wario's name is all Capitalized after you beat him...) Anyway, if you start on Easy mode, you have to beat 16 characters before you get to him! (If you started on Hard, you must beat 10). That is why this one was hard: I know of very few people who have beaten both SM64 and Wario's Woods.

I'll come up with a replacement question soon... I can't think right now. And I really don't want you taking my question in the time between Now and when I get one, escpecially if it is on SMS. Not meaning to sound arrogant, but...

Ok, I got one. It is on SMW.

Here are three groups. The levels in each group have a certain something in common. Name one level that belongs in each group, and then tell me the logic behind each group.

GROUP 1
Chocolate Island 5
Vanilla Secret 2
Gnarly

GROUP 2
Yoshi's Island 1
Donut Plains 4
Valley of Bowser 1
Forest Ghost House

GROUP 3
Donut Plains 3
Red Switch Palace
Soda Lake
Funky
Butter Bridge 2

Well? (Hint: Group 3 has levels whose sole prupose is to NOT belong in either of the other 2 groups. The other 2 groups have something in common with the other members.)

Anyway, you STILL have Group 2 to get....

(Anyway, the only challenging thing for me in Wario's Woods is the levels in Round clear that are 110+... You have all 8 colors of monster on screen, all but the last 2 and a half rows are full to start, and Wario pounds the ceiling down roughly every 2 seconds. Heh, it normally doesn't take me any more than 4 hours to come up with a question, of course, my questions are usually less direct than everyone else's, that is, everyone else's has a certain one distinguishable answer that is in essence telling you exactly what is beoing asked, while mine requires thought before you even know what I am asking.

Yes. Well,
What is the most frequently used musical theme in the series?

The temporary item music.

Like, it's not always the same. With the temporary item music, and the underworld music, it's always the exact same notes. What I'm talking about is the same melody, but not always the same notes/rhythm and stuff.

I don't know... I THINK it is either the 1-1 SMB theme or the Theme from the World 6 on the YI title screen. That one is used in at least 3 games I know of. The former is used in more levels. However, I don't htink either one is right.

DINGDINGDING! Yup, that's it... you read my old Mario Music post, didn't you...?
Yeah, let's see... almost every title screen has that music, most of the music from SMB3, SMW, YI, SM64, SMS and other various things is based on that theme.
Well, you get the question.

In the NES version of Mario is Missing, what is the terrible excuse for a final boss, and how do you beat it?

(This one is for anyone whose maniacal boredom lead them to playing and finishing this horrible game.)
Title: Re: the mario trivia game!!!!
Post by: Insane Steve on September 26, 2002, 06:11:51 PM
I beat this game roughly 7 or 8 years ago and sold it... so I can't remember...

I think all of the bosses were one of the Kooplings... And you beat all of them by jumping on them 3 times. (Of course, you couldn't even get hit so...) I am assuming that the final boss is exactly the same. Of course , I sold it about 8 years ago, and had the game for about 4 days, so I honestly cannot remember. Plus, this was for the SNES version, but I bet they are exactly the same anyway.

There may be a different final boss, but I bet Nintendo was too lazy to make one in that piece of crap.

Yes, in the NES version, the pitiful final boss is simply the koopa you see capture Mario at the start, and all you have to do is jump on him three times, not to mention that he can't even hurt you. Insane Steve gets the next question.

I'll spare you the migraine and give the answer:

18 18 16 12 1 X X -9-

Take the 8 playable characters from Mario Kart 64 and line them up in a row, top to bottom, left to right. (Like you are reading a book.) Then, the number is whatever hole on the N64 Mario Golf course "Mario's Star" that character is on:

Mario & Luigi - Hole 18
Peach - Hole 16
Toad - Hole 12
Yoshi - Hole 1
DK and Wario - (No holes, thus the X)
Bowser - Hole 9.

There you have it. I will make a new one today. (Don't worry, I promise. NO MORE LIKE THIS!)

Well, since you got SMA3, I can give you some quality evil on Yoshi's Island then, eh?

5 quick Questions: (They're easy. Do them WITHOUT looking at the game!!!!) I'd say 3 is a good score without looking.

PS: These are on YI, not SMA3. Secret levels do not apply.

1. What is the only level with a one-word title?

2. In the pictures that represent each level on the map screen, how many have Yoshi on them?

3. Name any 2 levels with flashing eggs. (There are more than 2!)

4. Name Either of the 2 levels with a six word title.

5. Name the ONLY level with a car metamorphesis bubble.

BONUS (Fill in the blank): Extra 3 has one more ________ than all of the other levels.

Have fun! (Do it without looking first!)

Well, I know right away that #1 is BLIZZARD!!!
2. Two? (??)
3. 1) Shy Guys on Stilts
   2) Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy
(I knew both the levels, I just forgot the names... rrgh)
--------------------------------
The ones I had to look for:
4. The Cave of the Mystery Maze
5. Lakitu's Wall

Well... you got 2 without looking. 4 With looking. There are 5 levels with Yoshi on the picture! 4-2, 4-7, 5-7, 6-3, and 6-7.

The others:

3. The 3rd level is Extra 4 (The Impossible? Maze)

4. The other one is Tap Tap the Red Nose's Fort. (6-4)

BONUS: I have said this about 5 times on the boards... Extra 3 has 21 red coins!

I got SMA3 Today... I am kinda dissapointed... The hit decection SUCKS... in 1-4 anyway... (I had 2 eggs pass through the lower left Piranha Plant in the room for the last Flower, and 2 more pass harmlessly through Burt the Bashful) And the Fuzzy animation is VERY choppy.

I also don't really like the Intro to a level music... they changed it to a snare drum! The timpani MAKES the intro music!

Ah well... hey, how do you get the Secret levels? I got 100's on all of the levels in World 1. Even the Extra one. Of course the requirement for The Bonus Challenges is only 700 total points per world! This is disgusting! The Bonus challenge should be for only the best players! I'd have the B.C. on every world if they did that in YI with my feet!

Hmm... well... I didn't have those problems in 1-4... that's weird.
Also, it's just that the intro music sounds wrong because it's at a weird frequency on the tiny GBA speaker....
You have to beat the game to get the secret levels. I like "Exercise in the Skies" and "The Neverending World of Yoshis" (I think that's what it's called)...
So... are you gonna ask another question, or what?

P.S. I have an excuse for not answering the bonus question... I was tired, and my Mom told me to get off too. And yes, I knew that it had 21 red coins... I've seen you write that several times.

Heh... Speaking of the 21 red coins in Extra 3, they took one out. There are now the correct 20 red coins in the SMA3 version of Extra 3.

New Question time: (Pure Evil!) Which Red coin did they take out?

PS: I noticed 5 differences at least between 4-4 in YI and 4-4 in SMA3. The most obvious being the extra middle ring before the pipe, the flippers before the pipe, and the location of the middle ring in the area where the main part branches into 4 chambers. Ah well. I have 100s on all the levels in the first 4 worlds. Including the Extra ones.

Title: Re: the mario trivia game!!!!
Post by: Insane Steve on October 12, 2002, 03:36:46 PM
Heh, I got 100s on all the normal YI levels today. I tried every one of the Secret levels SO far... I didn't get too far on a couple of them *cough Secret 6 cough*... I was actually close on guessing a lot of them before I played!

Predictions:
Some kind of moving platformesque level: And there's Secret 1.
Another maze level: See Secret 2.
A level with pretty much nothing but those morph bubbles: Secret 3!
A messed up self-scroller: Secret 6 -- well kind of. About the whole level is like the first part.

And the two I guessed that weren't there:

Some kind of downwards falling chamber with Thorns as walls on both sides. Basicly, it tests your hovering skills. (Wait, this is like a really long version of the entrance to the main part of Secret 6. Hmmmm...)

A self-scrolling RISING vertical chamber.

And we MIGHT have a new all-time favorite Mario level here... That's right, we're talking about Secret 5. The Star Road 3 of YI. I didn't really play through it like I should have though... I laughed for about 10 minutes after playing through some (wait, all) 15 seconds of it. So far I haven't cleared any of them... Likely due to my "100 or Bust" policy: I get a 100, or I either:

A. Go back through the whole level to find what I am missing, or

B. Kill Yoshi on purpose to go back to a point in the level were I can. If that is the beginning, so be it. (I do this A LOT in Extra 5.)

I really, really, have to abandon that policy.

And for the question, you really have to have 100s on all levels of World 3 in BOTH games to get it. That is just all there is to it. And you have to look REALLY hard in the YI version.

Oh yeah, I already got a 100 on Secret 4. That level was prety easy. And I also got a 73 on Secret 5 :/ ... Anyone know where there are 7 Red Coins and 2 flowers?

Yeah, I just finished getting all 100s on the secret levels a couple days ago.  Secret 5 is a most wondorfully evil level, just in the whole deviousness of the level's layout...  though I'll say no more.  You've really got to go through with no knowledge of these levels (as should be with any game) to get the full experience...
I'll have to see what you think of the secret levels once you've bested them all, Insane Steve.

And the 21st coin that was removed?  That'd be the one in the post in the middle of that tiny rotating platform cluster.

Ya, that's it. The neglected coin, as I call it. The one everyone misses.

And don't tell me how to get the stuff I am missing on Secret 5. I found a neat equation for the score you'll get on Secret 5:

p = t + 10

Where p is the number of points you'll get, and t is the time (In minutes) you spend wandering aimlessly through it. I spent about an hour, and got a pathetic 73.

My scores right now (After about 2 hours)

S1: -
S2: 89 (I missed a Flower. Hmmmmm...)
S3: - (Morph bubbles really bore me)
S4: 100 (This one was really really easy. Gotta dig the SMB3esque part at the end what the cannons.)
S5: 73 (Grrrrrrr....)
S6: 75 (I really don't like this one. Too repetitive. You have to go through the same area 5 times to get a 100.

I don't know why I am making a separate post for this, but...

HAHAHA! After about 2 hours (Thus messing up my equation a bit... I don't think it would be linear anyway...) I got a 100 on Secret 5 with no help! And I didn't figure it out by accident either.

All I have to say is; The amount of evil in Secret 5 makes Bowser pathetic by comparison.

And you haven't truly played Secret 5 unless you have a 100 on it. Trust me.

Secret 3, in my opinion, is one of the evilest levels in the whole game. If you run out of time ONCE, you either fall, or are unable to get a 100. That makes me mad. It's kinda like Quick Man's level from Mega Man II, you know?
Well, now that we've totally strayed from trivia...

Well, I got 100s on all 6 Secret levels... Thus getting me a perfct file. Why does "No. 91" Appears after my file? I have 2 theories.

1. I am the 91st person to get a perfect file (Seriously, I don't know HOW it would be possible to tell)

2. I died 90 times, and on the 91st try I got my final 100 (On Secret 6). Of course, I died about 15 times trying to get those red coins behind the locked door.

You asked for them, my synopses for the Secret levels.

S1: This one was pretty fun... But I HATE those spinning round things you have to ride across some areas.
S2: This one had some neat tricks involved to get the 100. This was neat, and had some pretty quality evil in it at times.
S3: This one I didn't find that bad at all... because right before all those parts where you only get 1 try for the Flower or the clear there is a Middle Ring, and if you want the 100 and mess up you can always jump into a pit or something (I did. About 5 times)
S4: This one has the dumbest title I have ever seen (They didn't even write out the word "with"... hmmmmmm...) And it was also the easiest one to 100 too. I like the end part with all those Bullet Bill cannons.
S5: What is there to be said that hasn't been said already? Just mentioning this one makes me want to do an evil manical (sp) laugh.
S6: The beginning part is really repetitive. Some of the red coins are a real pain to get. I like the end part (The real end, with the Flower at the end) ..,. really nostalgic.

There you have it. DOes anyone know where to get a pic of the Secret 5 Picture that you click on on the map screen to enter the level? I need it for an avatar.

In SMW, which worlds are self-scrollers?
Hint: Donut Plains 2 is one of them.

I thought Fifth had the question... ah well

Here goes (Without looking)

Second part of Iggy's Castle
Donut Plains 2
Butter Bridge 1
First part of Forest Fortress
Room 1 of the Front Door

I think I am likely missing 1 or 2... There has to be more than 5 self-scrolling parts, but that it all I can think of...

Right now anyway.

Ok, I'll just come up with one here:

How many ! blocks are there in Extra 2 of Yoshi's Island?

. .
W

(Just kidding. I don't even know that one.)

Real question. (I ave to include Secret 5. Sorry.)

Secret 5 of SMA3 can be cleared (with any score) in the shortest amount of time (That is, faster than any other level in the game).

What level in SMA3 can be cleared 2nd fastest?

I expected SOMEONE to say that. Nope, there are a couple of levels that are shorter.

(In case you are interested, the level that takes me the LEAST time to get a 100 on: 6-3. I can do it in under 1'20"00.) Of course, this isn't the answer either. It is solely a stupid tidbit.

Secret 5? Even now, it takes me over 12 minutes to score a 100 on it. And... My favorite (?) level in the Mario world, 4-4 of YI (The YI version is better.) I have timed myself for 7'11"85 for a 100.

So... what level requires the 2nd least amount of time to clear with any score?

2. I got a better one.

The answer was Extra 3. I can do it in about 25 seconds.

Anyway, new question. (Analogy)

OH, NICE BIG FAT JOKE!
Thanks for having me spend 2 hours trying to find any similarity between those levels.

Duh. Number progression.
2 to 3, 5 to 6. Yeah. You're REAL funny. That didn't even have anything to do with Mario. Well, ok, it's my question. Don't worry, I'll have something within 36 hours.

... You are really getting on my nerves.

1. THERE IS A REAL, ACTUAL REASON THOSE TWO LEVELS FORM A LOGICAL ANALOGY! So no, it has Nothing to do with the number progression. I can't believe you spent two hours looking at the levels, and you didn't see it!
2. The hint was perfect for the situation. I see you've just ruined the hint, and also in essence, the entire thread!
3. You keep abusing the fact you can edit everyone else's posts now. Real slick. I can too.
4. Once again, there IS a logical reason for this!
5. I have all rights to call anyone I want an idiot. Remember, I told you I had little regard for humanity.
6. Here's the question again. Look at something in each of the 2 levels that you may have done... and then realized how much of an idiot you were for doing it.

SMA2 : Chocolate Island 5 :: SMA3 : Neverending World of Yoshis
(There! I changed it! Happy?)

Find the logic behind the analogy!
There is a Mario related reason!

Heh... if that were it, it would look more like:

SMA2 : Every level (Excluding castles, ghost houses, and fortresses):: SMA3 : Every level

Anyway, I see this is going nowhere... So that you aren't mad at me, the answer is:

Chocolate Island 5 is a level in SMA2 that has a switch that, if hit the wrong way, causes your character to die. (You know, that switch near the beginning on the Brown block, and if you just jump on it those blocks change to coins)

In SAM3, Secret 6 has a switch, in the right hand side of the room with the music that plays on the intro level, has a ? cloud, that has a switch... If you approach this the wrong way, you jump on the switch, and then you hit your head on the newly formed ! blocks and land on the bed of spikes.

I said you were an idiot if you got it because... well... You can probably see for yourself there... and I was talking to no one in paticular.

(Quite embarassingly, I feel for this the first time I approached it. I felt like a total moron.)

I do disticntly remember saying something on the boards about World 3 being my least favorite as well... here are the worlds from Favorite to least favorite for me:

4 - 4-3, 4-4, 4-5, 4-7 are all in my top 10 favorites.
6 - 6-3 and 6-7.
5 - Hey it has Secret 5. Must be good for something.
2 - These are just boring. Except for Secret and Extra 2.
1 - Soooooo Eaaaaaaasy... 3 is worse though.
3 - Ugh.... The only cool thing abotu this World are the monkeys...

My 10 favorite levels: (Yes, 4-4 beat out Secret 5. Barely.)

4-4, Secret 5, Extra 2, 6-3, 6-7, 4-7, 4-3, Secret 2, 4-5, Extra 6.

With 5-3 being 11th.

And my least favorites. (Notice the predominance of self-scrollers here)

6-5, Extra 1, 1-5, 5-6, 2-5, 2-2, Extra 5, 1-3, 2-2, Secret 6, 3-3.

Honorable mention going to 5-4 here.

Question! ok...

What do all the following levels of SMA3 have in common that none of the other levels in SMA3 have?

1-1
Extra 4
Extra 3
Extra 2
Extra 1

Oh yes, almsot forgot. There is another, more obvious feature that a lot of levels on SMA3 have in common. So:

1. Of the 5 levels, name the feature that they share that no other level has.
2. Name the feature they share that several other levels have, and while you're at it, tell me how many other levels (Of SMA3, not YI) have this feature.

The levels are, again,

1-1, Extra 1, Extra 2, Extra 3, Extra 4.

Ok, let me explain my question better.

For Part 1, I am looking for a certain characteristic that all 5 levels SHARE (Not have) that no other level in the game shares.
(The point of that hint... the answer to Part 1 is somethig they DON'T have that the other levels all have.)
For Part 2... something even more obvious than that. Other levels that have this characteristic are:

Secret 1, Secret 5, and 6-8. These are not even close to all of them, either.
(Ok, I'll flat out tell you there are exactly 19 levels, including the ones in the question, that have this.)

The 5 levels are, again,

1-1, Extra 1, Extra 2, Extra 3, Extra 4.

Heh, they are more "brain teaser" type questions that flat out factual trivia.

Ok.

Part 1: The 5 levels are the only 5 in the game without a Middle Ring. Check for yourself.

Part 2: Seriously, I don't see exactly HOW you missed this part. The link is that the Green Yoshi plays all 5! As I said before, 19 levels have this trait:

1-1, 2-1, 3-1, 4-1, 5-1, 6-1, 6-8, E1, E2, E3, E4, E5, E6, S1, S2, S3, S4, S5, and S6.

Fine then, next time I'll come up with a more "trivia-like" trivia question.

FINE! Here it is, a ridiculously easy yet to the point question.

In SMA3, there is one level that's title is not capitalized properly; that is, there is one level where, instead of every word in the title being capitalized, only the first word is. What level?

Secret 5: Items are fun! (You crazy Secret 5 nut. It's easiest for YOU because you've played that level like 500 times.)

I don't know HOW I missed that they don't have a middle ring. (Or Green Yoshi. I thought "Green Yoshi passes Mario to another Green Yoshi... no, that's not it." I feel even more stupid than before.

Well, anyway, I get the question... so...

You know it, I know it, that's right. (The more I think about it, the more I think SMA3 was somewhat rushed. The typos... and all the Secret level titles seem like afterthoughts except Secret 1 [I bet they spent all their alloted time for that coming up with the title for Secret 1]. As do the points (especially the red coins) on Secret 4. Ah well.)

Secret 5... No, I haven't played it 500 times. Explanation:

1. 100 or bust policy. This means every runthrough takes me 12 minutes.
2. 500x12 is 6000 minutes, or 100 hours of Secret 5 alone. I don't have that time!

Ah well. Go ahead, ask the question.

Ok. The one that is in YI and SMA3 is in a fort level. The one solely in SMA3 is in a "castle" level.

Well, only on the good levels. I don't know the locations for a level such as, say, 1-1... or... I don't think I have Any of the levels in World 3 Memorized.

I can give you a memorized 2 page walkthough of 4-4 by memory though.

Ok, I need to recheck a few things (A couple levels I am a little off on, some punctuations, etc.) But overall it is a lot more than most people can do. (Like the fact that Extra 6 has a radically different title on SMA3?)

. .
W

As for the enemy, it was the grape like enemy that appears right before the first Middle Ring of 5-4 in YI and SMA3, and right near the end of Secret 2.

No, the one that looks like a Bunch of Grapes, and you jump on it and you can traverse things that normally kill Yoshi like thorns and spikes. Not the one that spits bubbles. That appears TWICE in Secret 6 and at least once in 3-7. More than twice in SMA3.

I don`t suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it.

Ah, I knew of muddy buddy, but I'd never actually found him in 5-4.  Ah, well.

Since nobody got that question (and nobody's yet answering the SMB3 giant ? block question) I've got a rather trivial question about a reference in Yoshi's Island.

Question.
In world 4-1 of Yoshi's Island there's a lakitu who has these strange circular things behind his back and who is able to throw lightning.
What is the significance of this?

5-1. That guy is in 5-1. Not 4-1. He has a significance? I always thought he was merely an annoyance. Hmmmmm, the title has to do with Blizzards, and he throws fire. All i can presume there.

(In 5-4, when you have the choice of 2 ? clouds to determine your path (Before the first Middle Ring) Hit the left one and go up and all the way to the pipe. Take the left path in the room with the 2 shy guys with the red coins. This "Muddy Buddy" should be nearby. In Secret 2, you can't miss it.)

Title: Re: the mario trivia game!!!!
Post by: Fifth on November 04, 2002, 09:12:29 PM
Sorry, it was 5-1.  And the significance probably won't be an immediate realization.  Think of the game's source...

And I'd found the muddy buddy immediately after I'd heard what level he was in, but thanks anyway.
How strange... I must've taken the path to the right every single time...

They all look right to me excpet for Forest of Illusion:

There is a Forest of Illusion 4.
There are no Forest Secret 1 and 2. Only, If I remember correctly, a Forest Secret Area.

That's all I see. That is very well done, if It is from memory.

Ok, Let's do Yoshi's Story this time. (Lol, this should be amusing.)

1-1: ???
1-2: Surprise!
1-3: ???
1-4: ???

2-1: ???
2-2: ???
2-3: ???
2-4: Torrential Maze

3-1: ???
3-2: The Tall Tower
3-3: Poochy and Nippy

I have an excuse. There's no reason to play YS after you beat all the levels. I haven't played it in YEARS.

Well.... hmmmmm, I'll reconsider your question. Let's see....

There are 2 categories for the large ? blocks.

Those in World 4,
and those in bonus areas that have Tanooki suits and other stuff.

The former I'll have to play through to see. The latter? Hmmmm...

5-2, 6-3, 6-9, 6-10... I know there are more... I am really tired right now. I'll seriously ponder it tomorrow.

I don`t suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it.

Okay then... and I'll make sure I know the answer.
Title: Re: the mario trivia game!!!!
Post by: Insane Steve on November 06, 2002, 09:18:25 PM
Ok.... here are my findings.

4-1: 4
4-2: 1
4-3: 0
4-4: 0 or 1. There is a pipe I can't get in.
4-5: 2
5-6: 0

That means there are either 7 or 8 in World 4.

The other category will take a LONG time for me to figure out. I have, in non world 4 levels, these stages with bonus blocks.

5-2, 6-3, 6-9, 6-10...

Ack! I am lasping... I know for a fact there are more!

I don`t suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it.

I'll throw out a quick question while we all look for the large ? blocks in SMB3:

How many ? Clouds with extra lives are there in Secret 5 of SMA3?

(There are a LOT more than you'd think... and I am only talking about the 1-ups you find in ? clouds here.)

The whole thing? No, but I do have 100s on at least 65% of the levels. I haven't played it very much recently. It's very strange... when the weather starts getting colder, I start playing Mega Man games like crazy. Every year. It's very strange.

Anyway... is your score on Secret 5, by any chance, 73 or 75? If it is, you won't get this.

If you're only counting the "hit the cloud, get an extra life" ones, I'll say 12.  If you count the one that's and extra life within a balloon within the cloud, 13.  If you count the bandit within the cloud...
Neh, I'm guessing you're not counting.

Only you, you and I must be the ONLY 2 people that know about that 1-up cloud in the vertical chamber with all the ice blocks in... hmmmm... to avoid spoiling it for C. W., I'll call it the "green room". (You know where I got this, right?) The one where you climb all the way up the right wall of ice blocks, using a S-Red watermelon... and only getting 1-up. That was a cloud I thought even you'd miss. I also got 12 without the bubble cloud, 13 with. Simply amazing.

Actually, I played the level today... you know, a standard 15 minute 100 runthrough, and I managed to get over 40 total 1-ups. So many extra lives there...

As for the 5-1 Lakitu question, I just CANNOT think of any other refrence to an earlier game there... But was the refrence to a Mario game?

I also made no progress on the giant ? block question in SMB3...

I don`t suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it.

Post by: Insane Steve on November 12, 2002, 08:15:16 PM
Hmmmmm... If I still had my SMB3 guide I could look for it, but I don't. I lost it somewhere along my countless (Issues No. 50-140 something) issues of Nintendo Power and Expert Gamer (Every issue. EGM2 #50-88. Why did they mess with it? That was the best mag ever) and now EGM too... not to mention other non-video game magazines (MAD, for one).

Anyway. I think you have the question still. Can you come up with a replacement? Or maybe I can try something NOT in SMA3/YI...

I don`t suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it.

Yeah, I'll make a replacement... as soon as I think of one.
You lost all those magazines? How in the world...?
Did you know that MAD was originally a comic book entitled Tales Calculated to Drive you MAD? Did you know I have the MAD Magazine card game? (Of course not?) Did you know that I posess every issue of Star Trek: The Magazine? (Of course not again?) (That's been going for about 3.5 years now... that's 43 issues... and at $8 an issue, I'm surprised I still have money?)
Title: Re: the mario trivia game!!!!
Post by: Fifth on November 15, 2002, 11:25:42 PM
Well, if there's anybody who still cares, the thunder Lakitu was (I think) reference to Raiden, a Japanese god of thunder a lightning.  The thing on his back is an arc of drums.

I also noticed another interesting thing about Yoshi's Island (well, interesting to me anyway,) that I can't think of how to bake into a question.  It has to do with how large blocks of level data (like rectangles of coins, etc.) are stored and created.  I think it works like SMW (which would make sense,) in that the data for it is stored in a single corner, along with the X/Y dimensions...
ANYWAY:  If you go to a level with a block of coins (2-1's good for this,) get a few coins from some columns, leave the screen, and come back, those entire columns will be missing, leaving those you left untouched... untouched.
I guess I just noticed it from a design standpoint, as I'm trying to recreate the game's engine in MMF.  Eh, whatever...

And I have another question:

Besides the opponents with 0 HP (Dry Bones and Vomer), which enemy (That you fight) has the lowest starting HP in SMRPG?

Heh, I came up with a strange question on Mario music.

You know how music has a time signature? 4/4, 3/4, 6/8, 2/2, etc.? You know, the marking which says how many beats per measure are in a song?

Well, what Mario song has the rather weird time signature of 13/8? (Yes, this reads 13 eights, or 13 eighth notes per measure.)

HINT: While you were playing a game, was there a song that you had a really hard time keeping the beat to? Check that out again.

Is it in Smithy's factory?
I think that's the place, with the "machine-made" enemies and the nuts you have to jump across...

Heh. Fifth got another one. Impressive.

(Assign one eighth beat to every note in the song. You'll hear it. 13 beats a measure. Or you can count one 3\8 measure followed by one 4\8 measure followed by one 6\8 measure if you still can't hear it.)

Hmmm... I can't think of any really good questions right now, so I'll do a simple one:

Question.
Who composed the music for Super Mario RPG?

Oh, and Insane Steve, I just last week got a "1st Yoshi" clear of SMA3!  Kweh!

... Shut up. I really haven't played SMA3 since the craptacular No. 10 clear. About the only level I continued to play after the No. 10 clear was Secret 5. So... Ah well, perhaps I'll get back into it to see if I can do it with a No. 1. Maybe. (I can forsee problems with maybe Extra 5. That's about it. I hate Extra 5.)

As for the question, I'll beat SMRPG again sometime. Not now though. Too lazy.

Haven't seen it, wouldn't know.

And I likely won't see it for about 2 weeks, seeing how slowly commercials get here. I mean, It was about 10 days since the first mention of the SMA3 commercial before I actually saw it.

I never even SAW the SMA3 commercial. I only ever saw it because I got the Nintendo DVD in NP.

Anyway, Hipery, no, that is not the level. I thought it was, too, at first. It is similar, but not correct. I'll tell you why when someone gets it or you all give up.

Similar to 1-7? Hmmmm...

I'll take a wild stab at it: 2-3. That is the most similar level to 1-7 that I can think of.

Everyone has their own opinions, no matter how WRONG they are.
Title: Re: the mario trivia game!!!!

I didn't see the commercial so I don't know.  Is it online anywhere yet?

I did get the Kirbyâ„¢ toy today though.  I wish BKâ„¢ would of let me pick Marioâ„¢ or Linkâ„¢, but it was in a sealed pack.  They said they couldn't tell them apart, but most of the toys are drastically differently shaped.  Anyway...

As to my trivia question, according to the Primaâ„¢ guide, the data select screen on SMS shows a "*" like star on the file with 120 shines.  They even show a pic.  But as we know, Primaâ„¢ gets many things wrong.

Ok, so it's a level that looks like 1-7, but it isn't 1-7, nor is it the most similar level. Hmmmm...

Ok, I'll try another similar looking level: 3-2?

PS: There are NO Fuzzies in 4-2. They appear only in 1-7, 4-1, 6-3, and Secret 4. And yes, Yoshi does indeed expel some kind of gas when he eats a Fuzzy. Same with the last Milde in Marching Milde.

Whatever.
But no, not that level either.
Title: Re: the mario trivia game!!!!
Post by: Insane Steve on January 10, 2003, 10:35:57 PM
Ok, I will break this down properly.

First, it isn't going to be a Secret or Extra level. They would show these openly.

It cannot be in world 6. These leves are all to... ORANGE and dark to be close to 1-7.

It cannot be World 5. These levels are all in the air. Too far away from 1-7. (Maybe 5-5? ... Na.)

Once again, World 4 is too orange. Can't be.

World 3? Maybe. It isn't:

3-2: You said it wasn't.
3-3: Too much water.
3-4: Fort level.
3-5: In the trees. There are no tress in 1-7 like these.
3-6: Cave level
3-7: Too much water.
3-8: Castle level.

World 2:

2-1: Too much forest in the background
2-2: This has the "bright" level background like in 1-1. If you confuse this with the dark jungle background of 1-7... you really don't now much.
2-3: You said this wasn't it, either.
2-4: Fort level.
2-5: Too much air in this level.
2-6: Cave level (Notice a lot of the x-6 levels are cave levels? Or at least have SOME underground area? All but 5-6, actually.)
2-7: Not nearly open enough to be mistaken for 1-7.
2-8: Castle level.

World 1:

1-1: Too bright. (See 2-2 comment)
1-2: Too open.
1-3: Cave level.
1-4: Fort level
1-5: Self scroller.
1-6: Like 1-1, again.
1-7: Ok, this is the level in question.
1-8: Castle level.

What have we done here?

Well, I've eliminated all levels but 3-1. And I really don't think that is it either. Maybe that part in 3-1 with the vertical wodden platforms that Yoshi can go up through? There's something like that in 1-7. The only other alternate is that it is a bonus area that strays from the main path of a level. I'll have to think about these paths for a while before I can come up with anything better.

Or I can actually SEE the commercial. You show me ANY screenshot of ANY level of SMA3, and I'll be able to name it.

Something doesn't seem right here. I'll have to see the commercial. Maybe. Or make random guesses. (These aren't that random. I am examining the levels in my mind to see if I can find ANY part that is similar enough to 1-7 to be mistaken for it.)

Everyone has their own opinions, no matter how WRONG they are.

Title: Re: the mario trivia game!!!!
Post by: Insane Steve on January 11, 2003, 09:38:56 PM
Erg, ok, I'll anylize World 4 5 and 6.

World 6:

6-1: Too dark and orange:
6-2: See 6-1
6-3: Too spacey.
6-4: Fort level
6-5: Cave level
6-6: Cave level
6-7: Too dark
6-8: Castle level.

World 5:

5-1 Snow level.
5-2: See 5-1
5-3: See 5-1
5-4: Fort level.
5-5: ... maybe. I don't think so.
5-6: See 5-1
5-7: Too many platforms
5-8: Castle level.

World 4:

4-1: Too orange.
4-2: Cave level
4-3: Too many platforms
4-4: Fort level.
4-5: See 4-1
4-6: See 4-1
4-7: Hmmmmm.... maybe. But I STILL don't see how you can confuse this with 1-7.
4-8: Castle level.

My 4th guess is 4-7. If not... I'll try the other levels then!

Extra 1: Cave level
Extra 2: Far too fast to be 1-7.
Extra 3: Too much jungle, not enough ground.
Extra 4: Please. You have to be a total moron to confuse this one with 1-7.
Extra 5: See Extra 4.
Extra 6: Castle level. (Kind of)

Secret 1: Too many platforms.
Secret 2: Castle level. (Kind of)
Secret 3: Too many morph bubbles.
Secret 4: Too similar to the rest of the level in World 4. (Too orange)
Secret 5: Most of this level isn't really like 1-7. Maybe the part with the pipe at the end.
Secret 6: A bit too orange. And dark. And long.

Ok, and now I am going to check for... hidden sections I may have missed.

...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...

...
...
...
...
...

Wait a minute? Does it (The commercial) look like that part at the end with the 4 red coins in the cloud or the beginning part of 1-7? Hmmmmm... Hold on. I'll come up with something.

Everyone has their own opinions, no matter how WRONG they are.

On the box art for the game, there is at least one glaring error with the picture on the front. What is this error? (This one is about a 4/10 in difficulty.)

Title: Re: the mario trivia game!!!!
Post by: Insane Steve on January 14, 2003, 10:34:43 PM
Close enough. Although Nep-Enut DOES appear in 2-3 as well:

2. 2-3 Is also played by Light Blue Yoshi.

You get the question.

I thought Mario's Time Machine was the absolute last game they released on the NES, but more research proved me wrong.  Here is a short list:

Jan. 1, 1993 Yoshi's Cookie

June 1993 Mario is Missing!

June 1994 Mario's Time Machine

December 1994 Wario's Woods

So, there was at least one game, Wario's Woods, that was released after Mario's Time Machine.

Therefore, I will release the question to whoever feels worthy.

That's a lot of changes.

Um, they also changed it from Japanese to English, but I don't think that is what you are looking for.  (dang prep. rule again)

Also, they did away with the chapter select screen, and made the character shrink when down to one heart.

Anyway, this one is recycled, but I posted it over 6 months ago, so I doubt any of you will remember the answer.

In Tetris Attack PUZZLE mode, There is one and only one level that can be cleared in fewer moves than are given to you. Which one? I need the Stage, level, and puzzle set.

For example: 1-3, set 1
or
6-9, set 2.

This is in honor of me beating all 120 levels of Tetris Attack Puzzle mode in one sitting.

Hmmm... I've got a guess, but it seems very... I dunno.
Well, the three levels that you'd listed all have sort of a dual-gradiant in the background, as opposed to the other three, which have a single gradiant.
That is, the backmost background in those three levels will gradiate from a color at the top to another where the horizon is, then do another such gradiant beneath that for the ground.

...That's all I could notice for now.

That wasn't what I was thinking of.... but I'll have to see that idea.

Oh.  Ha ha.
Double letters.
The names of those three stages contain double letters.

Go Moon!
Title: Re: the mario trivia game!!!!
Post by: Insane Steve on February 10, 2003, 09:42:13 PM
Well, I ... didn't see that...

I meant the backgrounds of the stages, and not their names.... but that is a correct answer.... I guess.

Not what I was looking for, but I'll take it. The answer I was looking for was that in the 3 stages I mentioned (The ones with the double letters), the main character in the background will blink every time you hit the flipping button. On the other 3, they blink randomly.

Go ahead, you get the question.

Everyone has their own opinions, no matter how WRONG they are.

I wouldn't have noticed that, at least not for a while of playing, and Tetris Attack doesn't hold a lot of play value for me, just not the kind of game I easily get into a groove with.
I'm not even going to worry about that preposition.

I write poetry when I`m not looking.
Title: Re: the mario trivia game!!!!
Post by: Fifth on February 11, 2003, 01:24:56 AM
Huh, that's weird...
I guess I almost noticed the blinking.  I sat waiting for Gargantua Blargg to blink on his stage, but wrote it off as a random number that kept missing, remembering him blink before (and turning off the sprite layer with his eyes on the emulator, thus determining that he CAN blink.)  Oh, well... I guess there were more similarities than you'd thought...

Okay, here's a question.  And it doesn't even have to do with Yoshi's Island!  But it's still kind of... out there.  If you don't know the answer, finding it might be like a needle in a haysack.  Anyway:

Question.
In Paper Mario, Goombario can potentially be the most well-developed character, having something to say about everyone, everyplace, and practically everything in the game.  In what context does he cite the size of his house in frustration?

Title: Re: the mario trivia game!!!!
Post by: Fifth on March 14, 2003, 05:30:35 PM
Eh, I guess that wasn't a very good question.  The answer was in Tubba Blubba's Castle.  Goombario remarks on how just this one hallway (the save room just before Tubba Blubba's room) is bigger than his entire house, and how it bugs him.

It's amazing how much they gave everyone to say in that game, and how much writing it had to take.  I mean, most every person in Toad Town has something different to say at least once a chapter, and sometimes several times.  Random characters always seem to be up on current events.
And then Goombario.  He knows EVERY character.  EVERY toad in toad town (most seem to love gossip).  Plus there's a remark for every screen.  Something different for each square in the desert, for each room in every fortress...  He can even explain all of the plants on Lavalava Island.  And it's not just the same thing.  Sometimes he's got a cheesy remark, sometimes he complains, sometimes it gives insight into his character...  Think about it.  I'll let the question go if you just think about it.

Anyway... Here's another form Paper Mario.

Question.
What location has a song similar to that of Dry Dry Desert but with a more friendly feel?  That is to say, the melody is the same, but it's in a major key, and with different instruments.

I was about to guess that or in front of Bow's Mansion.... ah well.

The new question... The theme from Tubba Blubba's Castle sounds a little like it. Or, if it didn't COUNT as the desert, the Oasis has a more .... major feel. I don't think ... either of those are it though... I can't think of anyplace else though.

Meh, I like minor songs A LOT more, anyways.

Everyone has their own opinions, no matter how WRONG they are.

Title: Re: the mario trivia game!!!!
Post by: Insane Steve on May 20, 2003, 07:53:37 PM
Hmmm, evaluate:

1-4: 1 key, definately needed
1-8: one key, definately needed.
2-4: one key... I'm almost sure it is definately needed.
2-8: Fuzzy gray matter
3-4: No keys If I remember correctly.
3-8: No keys
4-4: 4 keys. All needed.
4-8: One keey. Needed.
5-4: Fuzzy gray matter. I don't think there were keys.
5-8: No keys
6-4: 2 keys, both needed.
6-8: no keys... except for door 2, and it is needed.

So, we're down to 2-8 and 5-4. That si before I check...

Bah! It's 2-4! There's a way to get to the exit without opening that door.

Congratulations! You have just been blessed by the wisdom of Steve.

That is correct!

You can lick up one of the shy guy ghosts from the passageway on the other side of the flippers, then spit it out in the open area and do a high flutter off its head.

Anyway, the question is thine.

Actually, I know for a FACT it is Bigger Boo's Fort. I actually did it about 15 minutes ago.

Marching Milde's Fort happens to be my favorite level of ANY Mario game... so I SHOULD know about it. All 4 keys in the level are needed.

So, the answer is 2-4.

Erm, I did it a different way: I don't even NEED the ghost! Yoshi CAN jump 5 blocks high if you time the hover JUST right.

And a new question? Well... I'll come up with something soon. A YI question, most likely.

Title: Re: the mario trivia game!!!!
Post by: Fifth on May 22, 2003, 11:03:59 PM
Okay.  It was a very strange way to do it, though.

You first lick up one of the shy guys that come from the pipe.  Next go over to the highest point:  the breakable stuff above where you get the key.  Spit the shy guy onto this (by jumping away from it, facing towards it, and spitting upwards).  Then do a high jump-flutter off of the shy guy, and off of the top of the screen.  If you can then continue to flutter without losing moch altitude, you can make it over the wall, off the top of the screen.

A bit strange, but it works.
And I haven't thought of a question yet.  I'll make one later.
