Mario Chat / Re: Best in series? WEEK 2: Final Boss Battles
« on: February 24, 2008, 08:19:47 PM »
Super Mario RPG contains the best final boss battle, even though it's not my favorite (that would be the one from the first handheld outing).

Smithy FTW! (what does FTW mean anyway? For The Win?)

I was hoping for Nintendo to make a Wario Land 5 for the Wii. It would have the same level look like in Wario World but with his powers to transform into diffrent things. I mean what the heck happend to that they all of asuden just vanish that idea and start doing other things to make it dumb.

Like Wario Master of Disguise I thogutht they were bringing back the tranfroming thing but NO! We got this game that made Wario look like he cant do a good game for crap. I liked WMOD but it just dident make it feel like a REAL Wario game. (I love the Wario Ware games though. Thier awsome)

Wow, quite the change in topic. Nintendo should make a new Wario Land game for the DS in the vain of Wario Land 1, 2, or 3. Wario Land 4 was good but it was way too short.

And yes a new SMB2-style game would be awesome! "New Super Mario Bros. 2" perhaps?

I also don't get how enemies from SMB2 are in newer Mario games. SMB2 was originally a non-Mario game called Doki Doki Panic (as most of us are aware), so for those enemies and items to reappear in newer Mario games (SM64, Yoshi's Island, Mario Galaxy, etc.) is kind of strange.

Mario Chat / Re: Super Mario RPG sequel?
« on: February 15, 2008, 01:36:35 PM »
Tough to say. I want to say that Super Mario RPG succeeded despite having enemies and locations that were completely original (and didn't seem to fit into the Mario universe at all), but in retrospect, the enemies were just goofy enough to work. Enemies from Final Fantasy wouldn't work, they'd look too serious. Having Mario and Cloud fight side-by-side wouldn't be unheard of - we've seen stranger teamups in Smash Bros. Brawl - but again, odd considering how serious Cloud is compared to, say, Mallow.

There's really only one reason I skipped out on Paper Mario and its sequel: how everything's dumbed down to low HP levels. How you can never seem to make an attack that's more than 10HP. Made me felt eternally weak, made me felt like my options in battle were restricted, it was so different from everything I was used to - and not in a good way. I want the triple-digit numbers! I was also a bit ticked off that in Super Mario RPG, the highest level you could reach was 30 (but then, you're so powerful by that point that going beyond doesn't matter).

Paper Mario was meant to be a beginners RPG (the same with SMRPG).  Why couldn't Paper Mario have a "vetran mode" that made bosses have higher HP and higher defense? That would have been challenging.

Defeating a 100,000 HP Smithy with only 1,000 HP.

Mario Chat / Re: Shigeru's thoughts on the Mario movie...
« on: February 03, 2008, 04:46:18 PM »
Well, it said Shigeru was involved with the pitch, so I don't think he saw the movie during production. He's right that it should work as a movie and not be a literal translation of a game. However, it shouldn't be completely different either. I never expected... *brain spark* oh, I get it. Goombas are tall because they're like mafia goombas, Big Bertha is just some big woman. But seriously, if you're going to use a name, make that character look like their videogame selves. Goombas are squatty mushrooms with fangs. Big Bertha's a fish. Bowser's a turtle/dragon thing.

For some reason, I always thought the actor for Bowser was Anthony Hopkins, not Dennis Hopper. I think Anthony would have been a better choice.

I have a feeling "SMRPG 2" will retain the art style similar to Super Mario RPG or the recent Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings.

Please bring back Smithy as a final boss! Smithy (especially his second form) was one of the mose difficult bosses of any game (Mario or otherwise).

My ideas for SMRPG 2:
Party members include Bowser, Geno, Cloud, a Chocobo, Luigi, Yoshi

The plot involves Mario and FF characters being trapped in an alternate dimension in which characters and enemies from both series appear in hybrid forms (Goomba cossed with a Tonberry, Chocobo crossed with a Koopa Troopa, etc.)

Include common items found in both series (Coins, ?-Blocks, Chests, etc.)

Assign different battle commands to the A. B, X, Y buttons (for DS). If the game is on the Wii, assign different commands to the D-Pad (Up, Down, Left, Right). This keeps combat simple and intuitive, like the original SMRPG.

Have cameos of important SMRPG characters: Mallow, Croco, Toadofsky, Belome, Axem Rangers, etc.

I can't think of much else... brain fart.

If anyone else has ideas for a potential SMRPG sequel, please reply to this.

Mario Chat / Re: Mario Galaxy on DS?!
« on: January 14, 2008, 02:57:22 AM »
The first part of the video looks authentic.  It looks like footage of unseen levels in Mario Galaxy (either that, or this guy is REALLY good at computer graphics). The second part of the footage could be real, athough I don't know how this guy could make the"game footage" of the DS version in less than one month after the Wii game was released.

Very impressive though. Amazing, to say the least.

So is the Mario Anime a better tie in to the games than the live-action movie?

(see, back on topic)

Mario Chat / Square Enix bringing back Super Mario RPG?
« on: January 14, 2008, 02:27:22 AM »
I went to a Mario RPG fansite and found a rumor going around that said Square Enix might be planning a remake or sequel to Super Mario RPG for the DS! If this rumor turns out to be partially true...

I have been waiting for a true sequel to Super Mario RPG since the game first game out. Yes, Paper Mario and Mario and Luigi were both amazing games, but there was something about them that was... different when compared to Mario RPG. I think Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga had many references to Super Mario RPG (the Geno cameo in the arcade room was an obvious one).

Why hasn't SMRPG been released on the Virtual Console yet? All the other classic Mario games have been released, so why not Mario RPG?

PLEASE SQUARE ENIX/NINTENDO! PLEASE BRING BACK SUPER MARIO RPG!

Mario Chat / Re: Weirdest Mario Power-up

The tanuki is depicted in some parts of Japanese mythology as having oversized testicles and carrying a jug of sake.

Now there's a powerup for ya.

I thought the Tanooki Suit made Mario look like a racoon... He still had the Racoon tail and ears, so....
