Title: Dance Dance Revolution:Mario Mix"ed up"
Post by: Mr. Melee on November 06, 2005, 02:12:26 PM
Has anyone actually tried DDRMM? I own it, and it's a little too easy on story mode. unless you get hard mode. It's still an awesome game. Yes, I'm a newbie.

I have not and probably will never play a DDR game in my life.

If I don't get that game for Christmas it won't be pretty.  Because I'll throw a huge hissy fit! XD

Looking for a great way to stay warm this holiday season and also work off some of that egg nog?  DDR: Mario Mix makes a perfect gift.

I love DDR, but the reviews I've read say that DDR: Mario Mix is too easy, has too few songs, and doesn't have a track editor or multi-pad mode.  So I'm not going to buy it.

I only own a cube, so if I buy a DDR game, It'll be Mario Mix.

What's wrong with DDR, Mr.Wiggles? By the way, if you have a parent begging you to get off your butt and the Gamecube and go get some exercise, get DDR:MM. It's a parent's best friend. Yes, it does have multi-pad option (2 player mode.)

I had only played DDR once before, and I still think it's easy, including most of the Hard songs.  Right now I am just going through Free Mode, getting A's on everything, and the few I have had trouble with are Deep Freeze (the Dr. Mario song), Bowsers Castle, and a few others.  Granted, I can barely get through Very and, for the few I have unlocked, Super hard with out tripping and whacking my head on my dresser.

It's still good practice for when I play the big arcade machines, or I head to my friends house, who has the X-box versions.

I was referring to the game mode in which a single player dances on multiple pads.  I could try simultaneously dancing on both pads in multiplayer mode, but that would make the game just a bit too HARD - I wouldn't be able to hit four arrows simultaneously.

DDR:MM is an overall good game. I don't know why the reviews are low. Sure there aren't many songs, but the quality of them are good. Nintendo is trying to introduce newbies to the series and I'm sure MM2 will be better.

The game was developed by Konami, so it might not feel like a usual Mario game.

Seriously, do you really hate Mario Hirocon?

No of course not.  I was really looking forward to this game, actually, but I have so many games already and so little time to play them that I'm not going to buy any new game unless I know it's outstanding.  I hope that they make MM2, and I hope it is outstanding.

You obviously don't know the true meaning of Christmas. :P

It's about giving and cheering. Not getting what you want.

No, Christmas is definitely about mass commercialization and being spoiled and depression.

At least, in today's times they are.

I thought Christmas was a time where you can get together with your family, stuff the kids into the basement and drink all night waking up the next morning and just slacking around.

It's not that i hate DDR, I just think people look really riduculous on those dance pads and I wouldn't be caught dead on one.

My name is Lizard Dude, and I was the biggest skeptic of Mario Mix. But then I bought it, and it was excellent. Pretty much the best song list of any DDR I've seen, and Podoboos make 2-player matches INSANE! :o :o :o

Super Hard + Mush Mode = oh it's hard enough.

Has anyone been to Cedar Point or any video game arcade with DDR games and watch a group of kids kill the machine as a buzillion arrows are on the screen? It's pretty crazy. Here I am, having trouble with Bowser's Castle on Normal mode. What's wrong with the dance pads? Although the game isn't really dancing because you just step on arrows, the play is still hard. Or that's just me, the newbie's perspective.

If by "group of kids" you mean "Lizard Dude", and by "a buzillion arrows" you mean on one of the hardest and fastest songs, then yeah.

Ok, compare the harder difficulties of DDR Mario Mix to current songs on 4-panel dance simulations. I'm considering buyng this game.

I only know about the difficulty of DDR specifically, but I'd say that Mario Mix covers it up to about mid-Heavy. There is no equivalent to Max 300's insane difficulties or something like that but the songlist is excellent and it covers the low difficulty range well so novices can dance to any song, not just a few like in old DDRs which only had a few sub-3-feeters.

A weird thing is that the songs are kind of arranged in a progression of difficulty, so Super Hard on on of the earlier songs (defined by its place in Story Mode) will not be as hard as Super Hard on a later song. This still holds true in Free Play, that's the weird thing.

I have fun with it and I'm really, really good at DDR so I'd recommend buying it if easy-ness is your concern.

That's the way most DDR games are.  On any given difficulty level, some tracks will be much harder than others.

I know. I think that actually makes the game more fun. There's always a time for a challenge. To me, it's getting past hard mode.

Right, but in this one they're actually in order. Just seems weird.

Vidgmchtr, I do know the true meaning of Christmas (Homer: The birth of Santa!).  It's just that this game looks sweet, I've never played DDR before (just was too shy to try playing them in arcadse), and... the game looks sweet.  If I had money to spend and not just save for college I would buy some gifts for people but for now I might just have to make cards with macarooni glued on.  Or help out with CHORES!  But I definitely love time with my family more than any kind of game, no matter how cool.

I think DDR: Mario Mix is easy on normal mode.It gets a little hard on hard mode.I think Mr.Melee is having trouble because it is very fast. Well, ther are secret songs on that DDR game and plus you can record you calores.Sorry for my spelling.

Hey, how do you guys move your arms when you play DDR?  I think that I might go for just clenching fists in front of me or swinging my arms in the opposite direction of my feet.  But I might not be able to really thing about it when the arrows are flying at me like bullets.

You know what speed skaters do with their arms? Kind of like that.

I just sort of swing them. I'm more worried about the buzillion arrows than my arm movements.

For the most part, I try to keep my arms just a little away from my body, and depending on how much trouble I am having to keep up, I'll use them to keep myself from falling.  Luckily, two of my walls in my room slant, so it's a great thing to slightly lean against during tough songs.

Wait, what does leaning do? Leaning makes it harder for me. And what are stamina bars used for?

When I play at someone's house, I'll find a rather tall chair and place it behind the pad and hold onto it like the bar on an arcade machine.

Some people look down at this technique, but I figure that the manufacturers of the games wouldn't have added a bar to their machines if they thought it was cheating.

I hope that LD will one day post a picture of himself playing Mario Mix... in a Mario costume!  Just kidding about the costume.  But I would like to see the Dancing Dude in action!
