Author Topic: Great, My Wii's Having Problems... (Read 15899 times)

Yeah, so I was playing GH5, the thing started taking forever to load, and then I just up and got a disc read error. Now, I can't get it to read any discs. The manual said something about just unplugging it for a while--disregarding the fact that I can't see how the AV cord would have anything to do with the disc being properly read, I always unplug my Wii in the interest of minute energy conservation, so I doubt that's part of the problem. Anyone else have something like this happen that can give me some help that doesn't involve online troubleshooting, robot hotlines, and jotting down error codes?

Mayby the disks are dirty or scratched? You may be putting them in upside-down?

Well, I'd be inclined to agree with you if the problem hadn't started up while I was playing a game. Also, I take pretty good care of my disks, and I mean this in the least confrontational way possible when I say that I'm not dumb enough to all of a sudden start putting disks in upside-down.

I'm just suggesting those things because I don't know what's wrong. Mayby the laser reader's become faulty?

Perhaps the Wii itself is dirty, in which case a simple, manual cleaning might suffice.

~~I don't see how cleaning the manual will help anything...~~ The one time my Wii crashed was when I was using a faulty MadCatz controller, so there could be an external cause.

Well, I'll take all those into consideration... I just don't know what would cause it to happen in the middle of normal play, though! I mean, I think my stuff sometimes screws up because I handle it a little roughly, but I was literally just standing there with the guitar, waiting for The Middle to boot up. (in before "lol your wii is trying to save you from the horror that is Jimmy Eat World")

Do you have a copy of Brawl?

Call up the repair line, and tell them that messed your system up. They'll repair it for free.

You may have tipped the reading mechanism from overheating. How long were you playing GH5?

Not long. In an act that almost bordered on superstitious, though, I tried running the Wii standing up (because I heard about a guy who got his PlayStation to start working again by turning it on its side) to see if that would help. Well, it didn't.

Old PlayStations had plastic laser assemblies that wore away with use but could still track correctly or at an angle. Needless to say, Wii drives are 437829x better quality in the first place. And I run my Wii vertically all the time.

I am also having problems with my parents Wii. It won't even turn on. I'm wondering if it got fried during a thunderstorm. They want me to fix it but I don't know what to do, I feel real bad. Has anyone else had this problem?

You know, I had this same problem with Mario Kart Wii, and got the same effect, stopped reading every disc (including the gamecube ones). I tried looking on Yahoo Answers and that was no help. So I guess I'll just suck it up and pay $75 to get it fixed by Nintendo.

I paid $60 for a local fix, but it took about a month.

Really? Because one person said there Wii was only gone for a week and when it came back it was working just fine.

Yeah, I kind of regret the decision. Works now, at least, but the guy(s) who fixed it...

1) Replaced one or two of the rubber nubs with ones of a grayer color.
2) Made the Reset button immobile (still works, though).
3) Did something to the GCN ports flap that made it incredibly loose.

Sending it to a private repair man was probably a good idea. My Wii broke down last year. I sent it to Nintendo.

$90 and two weeks later, my Wii came back-without any memory. All 70 Miis, all twenty+ games, and my 16 channels were gone. 4+ years of memory, gone.

A stuck reset button is the least of what could've been your problems.
