Don't worry about all the stupid "NINTENDO IS DOOMED!" stuff, man. Nintendo has enough money to pull through this and other times like this.

Even so...from 9 million to 2.8 million is very troubling.

Anyone with nerve could tell the Wii U forecast was unachievable. What's more concerning is that the 3DS apparently can't pick up the slack despite multiple million-selling games and being the best-selling gaming device essentially everywhere.

Unless somehow 3 exclusives that are continuations of series that are system sellers came out, but that would never happen.

The only way Nintendo was going to hit that Wii U forecast was if Grand Theft Auto V was a Wii U exclusive.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens in the next year regarding the competition. The PS4 has been selling out instantly on Amazon and at many B&M retailers every time a new shipment comes in, but right now it's all very much "launch hype"; I can see both the PS4 and Xbone dropping off for a while starting in February or March, as neither platform has more than a couple of maybe-worthwhile games that aren't just shinier versions of games for PS3 and 360, and once "OMG NEW SHINY" dies down, it's all about the games. Nintendo also has the advantage over Sony and Microsoft on the next-gen front in Japan, but that isn't saying much when the go-to plug-into-a-TV game system in Japan is going to continue to be the PS3 for the next four years anyway.

You mean like how Double Dash saved the GameCube.

Mario Kart is bigger now, considering MKWii sold over 30 million copies.

And SSBB made Wiis fly off the shelves, no doubt there will be something similar with Sm4sh.

Smash 4 is also on 3DS, though. That'll help the game's sales, obviously, but I wonder if it might end up hurting Wii U sales. It always used to be that you'd end up having to buy a Nintendo console at some point in the generation if only so you and your friends can play Smash, but now, if you've already got a 3DS, you can get the same experience without buying a new console (Granted, all your friends also have to have 3DSs and their own copies of the game if you want to play with them, and it's definitely not the same thing as playing it on the sofa on a big TV, but still, I wonder if it might be close enough for some people who might have bought a Wii U if it had been the only option).

Why even make a 3DS version, anyways?

Because people actually own 3DSes.

And if people like the 3DS version enough they might consider buying the Wii U.

If you refer to the date in the text of the article itself, it's likely a glitch, since the first of the month wasn't a Thursday anyway.
