General Chat / Re: Where do you work/go to college/want to do/etc.
« on: July 18, 2008, 04:45:43 PM »
1. Right now I work in a neuroscience lab at the University of California, Berkeley.
2. After grad school, I'd like to do research and development, perhaps related to artificial vision, probably in a non-academic setting.
3. I attended Virginia Tech for undergrad, and I attend UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco for grad school.
4. In undergrad, I did an Honors Baccalaureate in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Biology, and minored in Math, Physics, Chemistry, and Microelectronics Engineering.  I did a Masters in Electrical Engineering, and am currently doing a joint Ph.D. in Bioengineering.
5. '95 Dodge Neon Sport Coupe
6. I'd like to have some sort of electric or similar car, but not like anything commercially available.  There are some pretty nice R&D/concept cars out there.  If only I had time to experiment with that kind of technology myself.

Game Blog / Toys R Us Clearance Deals
« on: July 18, 2008, 12:30:43 PM »
If you can, stop by Toys R Us soon for some sweet deals on great games.  I didn't see any Mario games in the bargain bin, but there are several others that are well worth it -- only $7.98 (marked $9.98, but you get 20% off).  It's a shame Zack & Wiki for Wii didn't sell better given its quality, but its retail failure is your gain.  I also saw some other good games such as Elite Beat Agents for DS and Every Extend Extra for PSP.  The store I went to even threw in a free frisbee.  If you can't make it out to the store, you may still be able to pick up the games without the 20% discount, and with shipping added.  Still, it's probably worth it for some quality titles.  Even better, here's a coupon for $5 off if you spend $25, but it's only good today and tomorrow.

Why you'd be touching your Wii that much, I don't know!

I live in California, but have never seen MEGAߥTE anywhere. The odds of finding someone randomly, and even then knowing who they are are really slim. I mean, Mß could be anyone, anywhere... Even being in the same town as someone here doesn't mean you'll catch them. That is, unless you know where they'll be at what time and it's all planned out first.
I was in Portland, OR on Saturday, and I ran into a friend from my dorm in undergrad... which was in VA, who also happened to have her brother visiting, who is attending the same school as my girlfriend, in CA, who was also with me.

But as a real excuse to post here, obligatory Seattle meetup pic:

and the bricks...

Yeah, I just found out about it today. Looks fun, but I question if it's as grand as something like Star Fox or Zelda. Well, at least they're trying something new.
Let's put it this way.  You should import the GBA version ASAP.

No, he said the Mario and Zelda teams are working, not that they're working on Mario and Zelda games.  Of course they're working!  It's not like they sit around doing nothing between games.  Remember that Mario Galaxy was made by the DK Jungle Beat team.   I think they're always playing around with what to do with the next Mario or Zelda game in any case, like the Mario 128 project, but that says nothing specific about future releases.

If you think Wii Sports Tennis is bad now, you should have played it during E3 2006.  I tried to do backhand shots and ended up with total fail.

Probably would have driven the price through the roof.
Oh, please.  Microphones are cheap, the DS has a microphone, and Nintendo makes money off of all of their hardware.
- No Nintendo franchise titles for the hardcore player.
Rhythm Heaven.

Oh and HD cables + Widescreen = No matter if you set your Wii to widescreen just OH SO LITTLE will be cut off; and with me on a plasma screen in the living room or my awesome TV in my room when using the Internet Channel the top left and especially lower right of the screen distorts a bit and goes double like the pointer is drunk. Also in the lower left is a little sliver of screen that is just totally black and extends upwards from the bottom of about the left 1/3 of the screen until it hits the left side of the screen... ugh that didn't come out right... sigh it looks like a 90º triangle:
I don't have this problem.

If it's useless, why should it have been in the Wii in the first place?

He asked for a game where the character gains experience when exploring, not the player getting better.  In dungeon crawlers, your character literally gains experience points when exploring.

It's called a dungeon crawler.
