Latest News / Mario, Miyamoto inducted into Walk of Game
« on: March 09, 2005, 11:57:04 AM »

The Walk of Game at the Metreon in San Francisco has opened and the first inductees have been unveiled.  Mario, Link, and Sonic are the first of the video game characters to be inducted.  Shigeru Miyamoto and Nolan Bushnell (Pong) were also inducted.  Halo was the first video game to be added to the Walk.  Semi-ironically, the Metreon is a Sony-branded shopping center.

Star honours for video game icons

2117

There's an online petition for putting video game stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Now you're probably thinking, "Oh great, another stupid online petition." The difference this time is that Nintendo is actually promoting it with a press release! It also shows that Nintendo is actually aware of gamer demographics.

The Petition

Interactive entertainment is an important part of the entertainment industry. Each year, video games usually make as much money – or even more – than the movie box offices! Let’s get a category created on the world-famous Hollywood Walk of Fame to recognize the video game stars who have become part of our daily lives!

Video games have been popular for decades, and visitors to Hollywood would like to see their favorite interactive stars honored too!

We, the undersigned, ask the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to add a new “Interactive” category to the Hollywood Walk of Fame to honor stars like Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda and numerous others who have reached true celebrity status.

DID YOU KNOW? PETITION SEEKS SUPPORT FOR NEW VIDEO GAME CATEGORY ON HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAME

March 3, 2005

An online petition calls for a new Interactive Entertainment category to be added to the world-famous Hollywood Walk of Fame to honor video game heroes. The category would supplement the current Walk of Fame categories for Film, Television, Recording, Stage and Radio.

Fans can join the cause at www.petitionspot.com/petitions/walkoffame, which asks the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to recognize that interactive entertainment has become as much a part of the landscape as films and television. For more than 25 years, video games have entertained millions of people around the world, and a new category could honor legendary characters like Marioâ„¢, Donkey Kong® and Zeldaâ„¢.

Video games are the entertainment medium of the 21st century. According to the Entertainment Software Association, half of all Americans 6 and older play video games, and the average game player is 29 years old. Additionally, 39 percent of players are women. Unlike other diversions, interactive video games draw players in and make them a part of the experience by letting them control the action. Players can spend dozens of hours conquering and replaying their favorite games as they form emotional attachments to their characters. No other entertainment medium forms such a close connection with its audience.

The petition will remain online through March, after which it will be delivered to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce for consideration.

18 February 2005: To celebrate the launch of the brand new Nintendo GameCube game Mario Power Tennis, Nintendo is teaming up with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) this summer for an integrated sampling and sponsorship campaign, giving fans and gamers at all the biggest tennis events across the UK a chance to play Nintendo’s latest sports game.

The Mario Power Tennis tour will hit Birmingham (6-12 June),Nottingham and Eastbourne (13-18 June) and Wimbledon (20 June – 3 July), the world’s greatest tennis championship. The LTA sponsorship deal not only includes on-site sampling, but also gives Nintendo branding at the events, brand profile in the official brochures and website and official endorsement for sampling at the country’s top thirty tennis clubs from the beginning of March.

In the run up to the Wimbledon championship, Nintendo and the LTA will be promoting Mario Power Tennis at the Nottingham 10tele.com Open, with a 10m x 10m branded gaming tent, Nintendo banners and a large number of sampling pods on site. Nintendo characters will be present at key stages in the tournament to keep the crowds entertained. Mario Power Tennis sampling will also be present at the Hastings Direct International Championships and the Birmingham DFS Classic, with manned pods onsite at both events.

The Wimbledon championship is without a doubt one of the highlights of the tennis year, attracting visitors from all over the world. Young tennis enthusiasts will be able to practice their backhand in the Wimbledon ‘Play Tennis’ Zone, where they will find Nintendo GameCube Mario Tennis sampling pods. Mario and his friends will also be making an appearance on site, so the queue won’t seem so unbearable with everyone’s favourite Nintendo characters on hand to offer light entertainment.

The official LTA publication ACE Magazine will also be fully supporting this deal with adverts for the game and a competition giving readers the chance to win Nintendo hardware and software.

Mario Power Tennis is an arcade style tennis game giving players a chance to hit the courts as one of their favourite Nintendo characters, including all time greats like Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Donkey Kong. Players are spoilt for choice with a starting line-up of 14 characters to choose from and over 8 different courts to play on. This is a great pick-up-and-play game that players of all ages will love.

Character choice is an essential part of victory in this game. Not only do the different characters each have varying strength, reach and speed, but they also have a selection of special moves to get them out of sticky situations. Each character as two special moves, one for offence and one for defence which can be charged up during games. At certain points in a match a character will flash and pressing the X button will activate a special move. These range from moves which propel them across the court in time to stop a shot, to special serves which help ace the opponent. The game can also be enjoyed with or without the special moves as you wish!

Mario Power Tennis goes on sale across the UK on 25 February 2005 at the estimated retail price of around £40.

"Some of [Nader's] speeches can also veer into the bizarre. He can sound like an angry old grandad, lecturing troublesome children. 'What happened to playing kick the can in the backyard?' he cried at one meeting in Miami as he ranted against Nintendo."

The White Mushroom House / New forum
« on: June 15, 2004, 09:50:27 PM »
I've been meaning to add this for a long time.  In this new forum, you can post ads of items (likely video games) that you have for sale or trade and things you would like to buy.  Let's see how popular this becomes.  Hopefully people will be able to find or import games they didn't think they'd ever see, or get rid of games they thought they'd never sell.

The White Mushroom House / Game sale and more!
« on: June 30, 2003, 08:20:28 PM »
Hey everybody, I've got some stuff for sale.  Prices are potentially negotiable (or we could work out a trade deal).  If you're interested, just e-mail me and tell me what you want.  You can pay by PayPal, check, or money order.  Shipping is not included because I'll let you choose the method of shipment.  Also, I've got tons of older computer parts that I'll let go of for dirt cheap.  I'll make another posting for that if people are interested.  How about helping a TMK staffer out?  Thanks!

Not quite sure what you mean, but SMAS+SMW was released with certain SNES systems shortly after they started packaging both carts with the system.  It's basically SMAS, but it has the 5th game in the menu, which is SMW.
