Title: Star Wars: Episode 7(!?)
Post by: Weegee on October 30, 2012, 03:22:50 PM
Disney. Sigh. (http://www.theverge.com/2012/10/30/3577656/disney-buys-lucasfilm-plans-to-release-star-wars-episode-7-in-2015?=1)

Not directed by Lucas. I'm tentatively hopeful.

For now they're doing a sequel trilogy starting in 2015 (with 8 and 9 targeted for 2017 and 2019) and then "one new movie every two or three years" after that. I'd eventually like to see a do-over of the prequels that completely ignores the current prequel continuity.

Also, hopefully there's still time for Disney to get into the vault and restore the original theatrical versions before the negatives are completely deteriorated (http://secrethistoryofstarwars.com/savingstarwars.html).

They now own Star Wars and Pixar.  Imagine that combo...   with a Marvel tie-in.

Why did WeeGee sigh? Did he like how Lucasfilm was running things?

When I think of Disney adventure films, I think of John Carter and National Treasure.

I wish Star Wars were left alone.

I agree with Koopaslaya. We don't need a new Star Wars movie every 2 years. This is just going to ruin the saga even more than Lucas did. I thought episode 6 was a good place to end the saga chronologically. Then again, that was the exact same thing Spielberg thought when he finished The Last Crusade, but then we got Crystal Skull, and we all know how that turned out.

I see what Disney is doing. They're going to get Lucasfilm to make a new Mario movie!

But this does have an upside to it; Star Wars in Kingdom Hearts.

If anyone from Disney is reading this, DOITNAO.

Now see, if there is continuity with the EU (Especially Timothy Zahn's Thrawn Triliogy), then I guess I don't implicitly disagree with the choice to make new movies. If they try to create new story circles which destroy the EU, then I won't be too happy.

I can 100% guarantee that episode 7 will take several years after Return of the Jedi, like 40 years or so.

I can 100% guarantee that episode 7 will take place between the prequels and 4, 5, 6.  At least that's what Mark Hamill told me.

As long as they're not animated, I couldn't care less.

A lot of people seem to be upset about the acquisition, but I think its a good thing. I'm no fan of the prequels, but I did want to see star wars keep going; and now that its out of Mr. Lucas' hands, well its another point of relief. Considering the huge amount of money Disney is spending to acquire Lucas Film not to mention the reputation implications, I'm sure that whatever Disney does with the saga they will put a ton of work into it. I cant wait to see what they will come up with.

Is there any word on if this will be the canonical 7th book or Luke's teenage years as Mark Hamill suggested?

"Harrison Ford, who played space smuggler Han Solo, is also reported to be interested in reprising his role."

I'm hoping for the book, not just for canon reasons, but so that the numbering stays consistent.
