Mario Chat / Vs. SMB(arcade SMB)
« on: May 03, 2002, 06:21:07 PM »
One of those is at our local Pizza Hut. But I was wondering if the stairway Koopa bounce trick works in it to give you loads of lives too. If so, you could last FOREVER!

Mario Chat / Easy way to beat 8-3 on Lost Levels
« on: April 29, 2002, 07:47:05 PM »
If you're like everyone else and not some inhuman gaming freak that can beat any challenge anywhere, you probably think that 8-3 on the Japanese SMB2 is the hardest piece of sh*t in the game and most likely in the Mario series. But I've got a technique that got me through easily.

1.Run nonstop(may take practice) until you get to the wall in front of a Pirahna Plant. The timing of this nonstop run should get you past those two Hammer Bros.

2. Run and jump on the springboard and hit the nearest Koopa, then run and jump through the next two Hammer Bros.(make sure you don't run too far). Again, this timing should get you through.

3. Reveal the two hidden blocks at the end and run jump on them to make it to the balanced platforms.

4. Make the second one as high as it will go without stopping you from jumping, jump from it to the two blocks, and hit the flagpole(don't worry about the last Paratroopa).

I beat it three times in a row with this method, then I quit to post this. I did it on Mario All-Stars, so it may not be the right timing on SMBDX.

Mario:Hey I''ve-a been working here for-a 20 years a-now, and I''m still a-getting paid 8 a-bucks an hour. What the f***''s up with that!?
Miyamoto:You get free board anyway. You don''t see Luigi or Wario complaining, now do you?
Mario:They a-just don''t care. Luigi justs spends a-it all on a-doin'' hookers, but a-now Wario might a-want more since he rediscovered-a the wonderful world of-a marijuana yesterday!
Miyamoto:Not again! He only managed to quit a year ago!

Mario Chat / Favorite Mario enemy(not boss)
« on: April 26, 2002, 09:10:22 PM »
I have a weird favorite enemy, Buster Beetle. Why Buster Beetle? Cause he's the only enemy in the Mario series ever(unless another one's in a game I haven't played) that can grab and throw things at Mario.

I have some cool tricks you can pull off in Mario 2. But they're not bugs.

Throw an item and pick it back up:
Throw a vegetable or other item at an enemy or preferrably 2 and try to land on it in the air and pick it back up.

Throw an item and catch it:
This one's harder. Throw the item and try to land back under it and catch it. A good place is the 1-1 underground and the Ninji. Wait until he jumps his highest.

Get 18 coins:
Play as Toad in 1-2. Right before the boss, find the potion and throw it to where you can see all 9 plants. Go in and quickly grab them all before time runs out. Do this twice and beat Birdo. If you're the playing NES version(which I was when I did this), it'll say you have G coins.

I got all the way to the flying Hawkmouth without getting hit once on the NES version.

Does anyone else her like it. It's my favorite game, even though it's probably nobody else's, probably because it's not an original Mario game and because he dreams the whole thing.

I think it would be SO cool if somebody amde an online Mario 2 where who knows how many people could go through a whole level and try to kill each other by throwing stuff at them or throwing them into enemies or holes. Even in the 1/10^1000000 chance that it happened, there are so few SMB2 fans out there that there would be nobody to play against.

Mario:Hey, where''s Luigi?
Toad:I think he''s on that new adult site.
Mario:Daisy''s gonna be furious!
Luigi:Oooh, yeah!!
Mario:Luigi, stop being a dirty b*stard and get your a*s over here!
Luigi:Hey, that picture stopped downloading. D*mn server!
Mario:I did that! If you don''t stop looking up naked b*tches online, I''ll....
Peach:Don''t worry kids. When Mario and Luigi stop swearing, we''ll continue the adventure.

Mario Chat / Vs. Mode on SMBDX
« on: April 17, 2002, 06:56:17 PM »
Who else loves it? I got SMBDX for Christmas who knows how many years ago(3,4,5?) and only TODAY did I get ever get a chance to play Vs. Mode. I took my GBC and link cable to school today because I knew a girl in my class who also had a GBC and SMBDX. After lunch, the girl let my friends borrow her GBC, and me and about 10 other people played Vs. Mode. Everyone wanted to play it("I play after Michael!","You died! Now gimme that thing!","I call Mario!"). It didn't last long because my batteries went dead after about 10 minutes. I'm bringing it tommorrow with new batteries so we can play it again. So if you can round up someone else with a GBC and SMBDX, DO IT!

If anyone wondered what the middle-left album picture on page 2 was, playing Vs. Mode is it.

Forum Games / I'm starting a battle network on forum #7
« on: April 06, 2002, 07:26:05 PM »
I finally got it all set up, and hopefully this one doesn't go down the drain too.

Here's how it works:

There are four teams:Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Bowser. First pick a team to be on. In battles, two teams fight each other with an equal amount of players(1v1, 2v2).

New members can pick three normal attacks and one special. All the attacks do the same damage, but you put the effect and the number by it(+1A means it attacks with 1 more power than your normal ones) FP cost is as follows(for conditions, the number is the number of turns.)

FP = number * 3

Each new member starts with these stats
Level:1
Max HP:10
Max FP:10
Attack:2
Defense:0
Coins:3

Each raised level, both Max HP and FP go up by 2, and you can either put 5 more on either, or raise either attack or defense. You also learn a new special.

Every 100 EXP you get gains you a level. EXP for winning is as follows. Round fractions up.

EXP = (opponent's level / your level) * 50

You also get coins equal to your opponent's level.

Items: You can carry up to three items for a battle, one use each. Once you buy it in the shop, you can carry it in battle any time you want. You cannot carry two or more of any item into battle. This is an item description in the shop.

Item:Price - Description

Battles: Battles can take place in a certain scene(forest, town, castle). Every member of the battle must take their turn at most one day after their last turn, otherwise it is lost.

It took me a while to come up with this battle system, although close to Paper Mario's, so I sure hope it works.

Mario Chat / MB clone ready for download
« on: March 28, 2002, 04:39:21 PM »
I got my game on an FTP

ftp://www.hoodak.com/pub/Games/

In this test release you can play 2 levels of single player(until I can get more enemies), and if you have a friend you can try multiplayer, where you can throw each other and try to kill the enemy first.

Single player will never be very good but I want to make multiplayer as good as I can. In the next test release you may see more enemies(if I can find some usable 16x16 MB enemy sprites), and maybe even Fire Mario!

Mario Chat / Mario computer game under development
« on: March 18, 2002, 11:27:50 AM »
I'm making a Mario Bros. clone based on the SMB3 battle game. I haven't got very far on it, and I can't find a good MIDI for the music. With luck, it will have pickup and throw support, although right now I'm having problems with sprite collisions. Email me if you want the latest test program of it. It requires at least a 300 Mhz processor though.
