Forum Games / Re: Hunt the Wumpus!

WTF is a Woozle? Some kind of Mario enemy? A wumpus is a big, terrible monster that eats people. :P

Glorb, you having to specify which room you're moving or shooting into based on the three choices I gave you. Just saying you're moving means I get to dump you in a random room like I did with the last person who didn't give a room number. Also, now that there are teams and they are forum-based, you could just start posting your moves here for everybody to see instead of going through PMs like usual. Then again, it may not be completely safe since a Google search on either of the acronyms I'm using for team names will easily turn up the corresponding forum, and TUNMB might find and see your moves. Anyhow, back to the game.

There is a roar throughout the dungeon, followed by thunderous footsteps!

Robert has injured the wumpus!

Team TMK: 70
-----------------
Robert: 70
The Chef: 0
Glorb: 0

Team TUNMB: 10
-----------------
Green Luigi: 10
MarioRPG: 0
Big Bacon Bonanza: 0

A certain somebody seems to be having all the luck in this game. :P

EDIT: WTF is up with the censor on WTF?

That's it, right there. More where that came from, too. The whole game is basically a grand satire of American society. Just go into any Ammu-Nation gun store(the store name itself makes a statement) and listen to the announcements. Or listen to the radio talk shows. Even the story is packed with it. Look at the dramatic overuse of gang violence, black slang, and anything-for-a-buck gameplay, combined with the usual "claw your way to the top" theme. Really quite brilliant.

I've been patient, but it's been too long, so 2 unnamed people just lost their turns. The first turn has passed.

Well, I didn't want to make the game TOO easy. To tell you the truth, I ended up modifying the fourth fight after I was done because the CascadeBomb attack was nearly impossible to dodge, even if you remembered the sequence. Even now, I die more than half the time fighting those guys. I always found Superstar Saga to be too easy, so I've been making things tougher over here.

I'm currently working on the fifth boss fight, the one in the western side of town. I'd say it'll probably be of equal difficulty to the fourth one. Really, though, I'd say the only way to win these is through trial and error. Which usually means dying about 50 times first to learn how to dodge their attacks.

BTW, after the fifth boss fight, Manny is actually going to be of some use. I won't say how, though...

Um, the 1st Amendment doesn't forbid Christianity or Christian influence; it says we have freedoms to believe and practice what we want (within reason--like, you can't go violating the other amendments and laws).

It does forbid Christian influence on the government. The 1st amendment verbatim:

Quote
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Notice the first part. It says no law should relate specifically to any religious establishment, and the laws of marriage certainly do.

The founding fathers who wrote the Constitution were very religious people, and it had a big influence on the laws and rights and other governmental things of our nation. Look at our currency and Pledge of Allegiance. Their faith was very intertwined with our government.

Exactly. Seems contradictory for a country promoting religious freedom, doesn't it? I'm agnostic, and I'm tired of Christianity being pushed on me. Now I can take the Pledge of Allegiance and the print on our currency. That's easy to tolerate. But I draw the line when my own freakin' state tried to pass a resolution declaring Christianity to be the "official" religion of the state(Yes, Missouri actually proposed this).

Of course not! Try any "cards" you might have on the door slot. If you're still stuck, check the outside of Rod's casino for clues.

As for the controls lagging when your car is on the far right, the game tries to position the car at the center of the invisible mouse cursor. When the car is all the way to the right, and the mouse goes further, the car sticks to the right, and only comes back off when the mouse cursor is once again past the center of the car.

Heh, if you thought the run through the minefield in the game was hard, try playing it on minigame mode and see how far you can get. Eventually some mines will turn yellow, which take off two mushrooms when hit, and after that, red, which is an instant kill. Watch yourself there.

Well, all I did was glance at Sapphira's post and noticed that most of it revolved around the connection of marriage to the Christian religion. While the Christians are the vast majority in the country, the principles of democracy are "majority rules, minority rights", and it seems like homosexuals are having the right to marry the person of their choice stomped on here.

Then again, marriage as we know it today only came into being as a Christian practice. The fact that this "marriage" concept exists at the state level in the first place clearly shows influence and bias toward Christianity. Oh well, the American government has always favored Christianty since its inception, despite the 1st amendment forbidding it. What can ya do?

I'm just curious, Sapphira, when you chose your user name were you aware of the definition of the word sapphic?  You have a deceptive user name for some one who rejects the homosexual lifestyle.  I'm not trying to use that as some pathetic counterpoint to your views; I thought everything you said was very cogent.  I just think it's funny.

This was the same point I was trying to make months ago when she pulled the ban-trigger on me. >_<

What's my opinion on gay marriage? I'm all for it. The state should not deny the same legal rights to certain loving couples that they grant to other loving couples on the basis of a religiously founded favor of heterosexuality. Now I'm completely ignoring the religious aspect here; if a homosexual couple wants a marriage recognized by their church, it's up to their church to decide, but if they go to a courthouse requesting a legal marriage, the state should be not discriminating.

I've got one from...you guessed it...Mario Party. I'm surprised nothing from this series has come up here yet, since the standard board game is MORE than half luck.

Anyway, I was playing my cousin in, I think it was Mario Party 3. Anyway, we set the handicap on 9 stars for everybody, just so there'd be lots of stars to toss back and forth in the beginning. I forgot how it happened, but somehow he ended up with 25 stars by the last turn. I moved last that time, last turn, landed on Chance Time. Somehow managed to get Swap Stars. I don't think I've ever seen anyone get madder at a video game, and I don't think I've ever been as lucky as I was that night.

Now, if this were a topic for UNlucky Mario Moments, on the other hand, I could fill 3 pages.....

I have an optical mouse, and it's really good. The only thing I can think of that might possibly be more precise is a tablet. I personally find the Toad killing spree game harder than the mine dodging one.

The trick to the car game is to remember that the collision area is basically the lower half of the wheels, maybe a little more. The third boss boils down to a lot of luck, since it's random chance how many bullets he dodges. But if you thought HE was hard, you're gonna LOVE the fourth boss, featured in the last screenshot.

I got maybe 35% done with the game, then gave up on it because I got sick of failing at room graphics.

Heh, if you're wondering why most of the rooms in my game are cookie-cutter road intersections, there's the reason right there. You give me good graphics, I'll give you a grandiose boss fight. But since I don't have my own private artist, and am not one myself, the game suffers in that aspect. But only that aspect; the rest is pretty good. There are now four boss fights and four minigames, as opposed to the two fights and two games before. There are also two other boss fights, but I didn't count those because one you can't win and the other you can't lose. BTW, here are some screenshots.

Where could this be?
I think I need one of those...
Shoot em! Kill em all!
Trapped!
Land mines show no mercy.
Today is a good day to die.

BTW, Steve, I don't know if I've got your latest version. I've got the one where you introducted Caj. Is that the latest one?

Since free-for-all won't work near as well with six players, teamplay is now the game, and the wumpus is tougher as well! And since there are an equal number of players from each forum, and because for an unexplainable reason I've always wanted to see these two forums compete for something, those will be the teams! Team TUNMB is going barefoot (Don't worry, there's nothing poisonous on the floor. I think.) and Team TMK will be wearing wooden clogs (Because they make a neat sound.).

Team TMK: 50
-----------------
Robert: 50
The Chef: 0
Glorb: 0

Team TUNMB: 10

Green Luigi: 10
MarioRPG: 0
Big Bacon Bonanza: 0

And now, the second round has begun!

You shoot the returning arrow into Room 14. As soon as you do, you hear the loud roar of the wumpus, and the ground shakes as it falls to the floor! The arrow returns even bloodier than before!

Robert has killed the wumpus!

You get 30 points for killing the wumpus and 10 points for having all 5 arrows left. Sorry, but you don't get to carry your special arrow over to the next round. :(

Robert: 50
Green Luigi: 10
MarioRPG: 0
The Chef: 0
Big Bacon Bonanza: 0
Glorb: 0

Now, excuse me while I go set up the map for the next round.

A scream is heard throughout the cave, slowly getting softer and softer until nothing is heard any longer.

The Chef has fallen down a pit!

(Which was quite stupid, BTW, since he found a map of the cave early on that had the pits clearly marked on it)

Green Luigi(DEAD): 10
Robert: 10
MarioRPG(DEAD): 0
The Chef(DEAD): 0

Robert is the last man standing, so the wumpus goes on the hunt and the action goes from PMs into the thread so that people can watch the last guy, and also for newcomers to watch how the game is played.

You move to Room 10.

You are in Room 10. You have 5 arrows left + a returning arrow.
There are passages to rooms 17, 14, and 20.

You smell the wumpus.

You may stay where you are, move to an adjacent room, or shoot into an adjacent room. What will you do?

...I hope that profanity wasn't directed toward my game. <_<

I do happen to have made another fangame that maybe not many of you know about. It's called Mario Gang Wars, and I've updated it to 60% completion, although I don't think anyone has seen it since it hit 30%. It's an adventure game in the style of the Sierra Space Quest and Kings Quest games, with a battle system resembling that of Superstar Saga. It's the kind of game that only gets better as you play through it, and that's actually somewhat of a coincidence. You see, I started making this when I was 13, and it seemed "cool" to be into drugs, pimping, violence, and urban slang. And that's all the game was originally about. Of course, that didn't make it a very good game. Over the years I've refined it, adding better content and a coherent storyline(just read the opening lines of the game, I've left those and a lot of the beginning alone, just so you can see how messed up I was).

You can download it here, although I would advise against it if you're the type that is averse to games such as the Grand Theft Auto series. In other words, if you're anything like Sapphira, it'd be best not to even take a look at the game...

I believe Insane Steve was also doing a game called Yoshi's World with the same engine at the same time I was writing this. Ask him about that one; it was pretty good.
