General Chat / Toys and joys
« on: April 04, 2011, 11:12:19 PM »
(statues and figurines are welcome too)

I searched for a thread about these things, but it seems one doesn't exist. I'd just like to know if anyone else collects toys, figures, collectibles or whatnot. Basically any kind of miniature plaything or something for display purposes.

I've been collecting some Power Rangers and WWE figures on and off for a couple years now. Unfortunately, I didn't keep the packaging because I was totally unaware of how much these things can go for even when they're been open. I've tried to keep them in the last few years, but space limitations forced me to throw some away, notably my Mystic Force packaging which I was very fond of.

I've also got a good portion of those Mario figurines that have been on the market for a few years now. I'm missing a few alt Mario/Luigi poses, but I'm good with just one of them. It does bother me that Peach hasn't had a model released while Daisy was in the second wave. Seems kind of backwards to me.

Recently, I got some Marvel Universe figures as a gift, Green Goblin and Union Jack. They're small, but I love the detailing and the articulation on these figures. I want to start collecting them, but 9 bucks for such small figures is just too much for my budget. Checking some stores, it doesn't seem to move much (at least not as much as those Beyblade sections that empty out fast) so I guess I'll just wait until a few of the peg warmers get handed off to Big Lots or Ross.

My most recent figure was my first SH Figuarts, this super poseable figure line from Bandai Japan. I chose to go with a Pretty Cure figure because the Bandai America Samurai line will be producing non-Mega Mode rangers soon and I already have a few Kamen Rider figures coming in from a local dealer. As for as PC goes though, it has no merchandise outside Japan so it became the obvious choice. Gotta have a magical girl posing with my henshin heroes.

Would anyone else love to show me their collection/point me towards the cheapest Delta Megazord I can buy?

I had no clue we didn't have something on this. Pretty interesting stuff for those who are following. The latest news making the rounds is that President Hosni Mubarak has been forced to relinquish his power, but he hasn't specified just when he'll be gone and how this transition of power will be handled.

So it seems they're still on square one in regards to changing their government.

Video Game Chat / Red Dead Redemption
« on: May 17, 2010, 07:25:26 PM »
Another big game coming out this week. It's from Rockstar Games, the guys behind the GTA series, and its set in the wild west. You know you want it.

Reviewers seem to love it, and those lucky enough to have tried it declare it a great game as well. seems the only major problem is the inability to swim. But you know what? It's the desert with vigilantes and bar room brawls so who cares?

Anybody else plan on getting this?

Too bad this and Mario Galaxy 2 have pretty much killed any chance Trauma Team had at succeeding in sales.

Video Game Chat / Nuzlocke Challenges
« on: April 10, 2010, 10:37:35 PM »
Because we can never have enough Pokemon threads on the front page.

Anyway, any of you heard/attempted one of these? For those of you who don't know, Nuzlocke runs are a custom-style run that adds a set amount of difficulty to your playthrough. The rules are simple.

- You must only capture the first Pokemon you encounter in the area
- If your Pokemon faints/loses a battle, you must release that Pokemon.

There's also an option for branching degrees of difficulty in case these rules aren't hard enough. Nuzlocke runs are also sometimes accompanied by comics. I recall one brave trainer who immediately lost the challenge because his Bulbasaur in Leaf Green lost to his rival's Charmander in Oak's Lab. Anothe person had a Wurmple downed in battle, and was forced to release it, but the Wurmple refused to leave his party. It was heartbreaking.

As for me, I'm currently pillaging my Ruby of everything it has to prepare for my Nuzlocke run. All that's left is some TMs and a few fully evolved pokemon to import and then I'll begin. I'm planning to once again start with Torchic and hopefully I can make it out ok. I chose Ruby because the majority of early Hoenn Pokemon are very useful in battle and the game isn't too difficult or too easy like the 4th and 2nd gen games were respectively.

I think some of you should give them a try too.

Video Game Chat / Why don't any of you people have Valkyria Chronicles
« on: April 03, 2010, 12:36:10 AM »
Seriously why?

It's twenty dollars in-store. It's beautiful. It's fun. It's touching. It's got 24 levels. It has excellent music start to finish. It has no waggle. It has a button dedicated to aiming at the enemy's head. It could be the good Sega game you've all been whining for, and yet

none of you have it.

The second-best PS3 game of all time. Second to Uncharted.

Go buy it

So they took the liberty of changing it

A few little gems from this article:

Quote
There were no historians, sociologists or economists consulted at the meetings, though some members of the conservative bloc held themselves out as experts on certain topics.

Quote
They also included a plank to ensure that students learn about “the conservative resurgence of the 1980s and 1990s, including Phyllis Schlafly, the Contract With America, the Heritage Foundation, the Moral Majority and the National Rifle Association.”

Quote
They also replaced the word “capitalism” throughout their texts with the “free-enterprise system.”

Quote
“The topic of sociology tends to blame society for everything,” Ms. Cargill said.

In conclusion, lol.

Y'know, the one in the bottom right hand side? Yeah, I can't help but notice certain sections are displayed multiple times, which is weird because at least a year ago it didn't look that unorganized.

For example, for TMK Stuff, everything seems to be divided into single sections as opposed to being under the same "TMK Stuff" banner. I doubt it's just showing up on mine's either, so is there any reason the sections look so cluttered?

General Chat / The Barney Bunch is back
« on: August 10, 2009, 08:44:07 PM »
Just spreading the word to my fellow members here, that the infamous internet improv/terrorist group the Barney Bunch has recently reunited after years of remaining dormant to bring humor and woes to Newgrounds, Wade Fulp and the rest of the internet.

For those of you who are completely unaware of this amazing guild, I have comprised together a brief history of the group's storied and often legendary antics from the past decade.

In 1989, a sir from Floride named Jake Cummins was introduced to the world through the emergency labor his mother wnet through while hiking through a forest. From his infancy, Jake's father figure was a large purple dinosaur who raised him by teaching him the importance of letters, numbers and loving one another. He took that last one to heart, spreading the warmth that comes from his heart and from real Orlando orange juice.

A decade later, he discovered the internet and with it was bombarded with offers for free subscriber porn and hilarious internet cartoons where Mario fights Goku and then he and Sonic split a brew. He was enamored by these treasures of humor and found himself unable to quench his thirst for moar 13-year-old induced stupidity. His addiction lead to his life of crime, in which he became a distributor of such horrible black market items as ROMs and lolicon. He was eventually caught and arrested by a gallant officer named Eric Bawwmen, after a 36 hour DDoS attack outside the International House of Newbie Relations.

During his time in the bighouse, he was introduced to a man by the name of LsaysH, who had previously converted to Aristocratic Orthodox Temple of Pickles, an organization dedicated to honoring the stay at home dad's questionable relationship with his neighbors. L taught Jake that the key to inner balance, was by embracing the the hidden technique of Adobe Flash. This point-blank digital canvas allowed the followers to revert to their youthful mindset, allowing them to create brilliant abstract works of art, which has to this day, been a source of much speculation among the world's top officials regarding whether Carl Winslow's deeper interests should be downplayed whenever his illustrious career as a law enforcement official was roasted. Due to his teachings in jail, Jake was rechristened as GCW by his subjects, whom viewed his thoughts as gospel to live by.

Following his release from jail, L and Jake set off to find refuge in the land of Newgrounds, rumored to be a sanctuary for all the rejects from 4chan and Something Awful. It is there where Jake met the rest of the crew, including such legendary internet veterans as RetardedBarney, SovietBarney, Princess-Laucherella, and their leader BarneyPoop . These brave souls were to witness awful atrocities caused by the leader of Newgrounds, the imperialist emperor Wade Fulps. Together, the boys became a beacon of hope for the citizens of Newgrounds, christened the Barney Bunch by Fulps spies who had noticed these boys would often leave their mark at the sight of their scuffles, a silhoutte of a round anthromorphic dinosaur dropping a large bratwurst upon Drew Pickles face.

Next time: The Bunch challenge Fulps authority and the rise and fall of the Barney Bunch, caused by a surge of new members who believed themselves to be superior BB'ers, such as Taco Wiz, Kirbyslover, and Super-SugoiGoku227. Stay tuned...

Video Game Chat / Any arcades near your home?
« on: February 23, 2008, 12:52:40 AM »
After reading the news that Street Fighter 4 would arrive in the U.S. early via arcade cabinets, I was more than disappointed at the many people cracking jokes that arcades don't exist in the U.S. anymore. It's understandable that there popularity has fallen due to technological advances, but they're not completely extinct.

In my area, I've seen many malls that carry an arcade chain that calls itself "Tilt" and it's been around for years. I go to those places every chance I have, and the machines that always attract the huge crowds are Dance Dance Revolution and Capcom vs. SNK 2. They offer ticket redemption machines as well as prize machines that offer prizes such as lamps, plushies and even an Xbox360 and a Wii.

A lot of small restaurants also carry NeoGeo cabinets, although most of the games they offer are old, like Art of Fighting and SNK sports.

Not to mention chains like Chuck E. Cheese's and Dave & Busters have arcades, as well as lobbies in theatres.

So do you guys live near any arcades? Are they anything like the ones here, which is to say awesome? Will you push for them to order Street Fighter 4 and blow your money playing that game, which will no doubt rule?

Fan Creations / A thread for my stuff
« on: February 02, 2008, 11:59:10 PM »
Since I don't like making multiple threads on a board, i'm just going to stick all my stuff in here for your viewing pleasure.

First off, is a couple of headshots I did couple months ago and scanned two weeks ago when I finally set up my printer:
http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/MidgetBottle/ArtStuff/Doodles4.jpg?t=1202017181

They were the first thing I experimented with in Paint.Net but since I was still new to it, they came out looking rather sloppy. The only one I finished were Dawn and The Red Guy in his awesome schoolgirl disguise.

Here's an unfinished Dan:
http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g16/MidgetBottle/ArtStuff/coloreddan.jpg?t=1202017550

This I finished today, which took approximately 2 hours:

I used layers in this one, so it came out cleaner than the other stuff in here. also, I realize her head's too big for her suit, but that always seems to be the case with my stuff. I plan on doing a Captain Falcon version too, but I'm waiting to get a clear shot of his head.

I'll add stuff later as I finish it or feel it's worth sharing.

Video Game Chat / Games in your backlog.
« on: June 10, 2007, 04:18:26 PM »
I'm sure this has happened at least once to all of us. You start playing a game, and you moderately enjoy it. Then something happens that prevents you from finishing it, like say, a new much more anticipated game comes out, you get stuck on a part, or you simply get bored of the game. So you put it aside and almost forget about, but you want to go back and finish it, though you just never get around to it. Eventually these games start to pile up but you still won't reach for them.

So what I'm essentially asking is what are you currently NOT playing that you want to complete?

My list:

Games that I still need to finish:
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time (gameplay bored me but I reached the final boss before I quit, so I still need to get it over with)
Yoshi's Island DS (again, stuck on final boss)
Diddy Kong Racing DS (haven't really picked this up since I got it around the same time I got Super Paper Mario and Pokemon Diamond)
Starfox Adventures (got stuck somewhere on the snowy part of the planet and never picked up again. It was an interesting game though)
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Yes. As sad as it is, I haven't beaten this because I never had the time to finish it)
Elebits (Also never had much time to play it)

Games I restarted that I should finish:
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (when I heard your stats in PoR would affect your characters in Goddess of Dawn, I wanted to go back and max out all of them. A few weeks later, I got Super Paper Mario. End of story)
Pokemon Sapphire (used to belong to my sister and I plan on milking it for items and legendaries)
Pokemon Colossuem (I want my Ho-oh again, as well as the legendary dogs)

Games I haven't even touched since getting:
Galactic Wrestling Ft. Ultimate Muscle
Def Jam Vendetta

Coincidentally, both games were produced by AKI, who developed WWF No Mercy for the N64, which is the best wrestling game ever in my book.

General Chat / So what would you name your kids?
« on: May 16, 2007, 06:50:47 PM »
I always thought this would be an interesting topic, just because names are an important part of people, and once you name something, it can never really change.

While I highly doubt I will ever have kids, I did have some idea of what I might name them. For a girl(s), it would probably be something like Cecilia or Celeste. Those names sound fancy and uncommon, they have a soft sound to them and it makes them sound classy. Other options would be something like Melanie or Erika. Astrid sounds pretty unique too.

For a boy(s), I definitely would name him Eduardo or Ray. If just for the fact that I would be naming them after two awesome Mexican legends. Jack or Gregory would also suit well, since I'd be naming them after an unstoppable CIA agent and a Docter who uses hax. The only other good boy names I can think of that don't sound totally generic are Skylar, Juventud, and Liam.

Discuss.

Video Game Chat / Justice League Heroes or Marvel Ultimate Alliance?
« on: October 29, 2006, 11:16:21 PM »
OK, so I finally got paid today (after 4 months of janitorial labor) and I need a game to hold me over until Christmas. That's when I usually get the games I've been looking forward to the last 3 months of the year. Since I'll probably get the Wii at that time along with any DS games I've been eyeing, I've narrowed my choice to these two. They both look really good (JLH character designs look like they're from the DC movies, while MUA looks like a mix between movies and animated DTVs), and the gameplay sounds very similar. I only have enough for one though, so my choice is in your hands: Will it be Marvel or DC?

General Chat / Save JLU!
« on: January 07, 2006, 11:12:31 PM »
I know there's a lot of Justice League Unlimited fans here. Well, it looks like the show is in trouble. As all of you already know, after Season 3 supposedly started in September, we have had a whopping two hours of new episodes (doubled up, so it only took two weeks). That was almost 4 months ago. During this long hiatus, there has been NO reruns whatsoever, not even in graveyard timeslots like at 2:00 AM. The season was supposedly going to resume on January 1, 2006, but it didn't. Recently, the Cartoon Network has announced that the rest of the season will be delayed until late spring/summer 2006. There hasn't been any news about the show being renewed for another season after this one. All the signs indicate that JLU isn't in the Cartoon Network's favor, and that this will probably be the last season.

A bunch of guys over at superherohype.com have started a campagin to save the show. It involves contacting Cartoon Network and the WB via mail, telephone, or E-mail to express your support for the show (remember to be polite). Also, everyone is encouraged to spread the message to other forums (as well as people you know in real life), and to buy the Season 1 DVD box set when it comes out on March 21. Please do what you can to help save this excellent show.

A lot of you will probably think this petitioning won't work, but it doesn't hurt to try and if Fox can ressurrect Family Guy maybe CN can reconsider their decision.
