Video Game Chat / Re: South Park offensive to gamers?
« on: October 17, 2006, 09:47:03 PM »
I pretty much saw this comment coming, because everything offends you. I offend you, Steve offends you, homosexuals offend you, liberals offend you, cartoon shows that shouldn't be taken literally offend you...Indeed, you're very close-minded. But, please, identify the other reasons why the show offends you.

Funny, you claim that you haven't seen the show before, but already deem it offensive just from info from sources that are not the show itself. Why is this? Wikipedia isn't a great source for information, especially in video game as well as South Park-related articles. True, I've edited some of those articles myself, but sometimes I come across various paragraphs filled with grammatical and punctuational errors; it makes it quite hard to believe that they're true.

Though, you are correct, there are episodes I KNOW you'd be quite offended to see. There are episodes I know that have poked fun at stuff I like, but my usual reaction is laughter.

To the rest of the people who seriously find South Park (or the episode itself) offensive:
It's a cartoon, guys. A little cartoon made to make people laugh. Just shrug it off and move on with life if you don't like it. Don't preach about what you find offensive to people who don't care.

The episodes I had mostly in mind when I said that were the ones in which great Christian figures were depicted obscenely, simply to be blasphemous. I know these episodes existed, because not only did I hear about them on Wikipedia (which, by the way, is to be trusted in this case because what I was looking at were brief outlines of the plots that couldn't have been very far off at all), but I also heard about them in, for example, religious newspapers/newsletters which denounced the scenes I just mentioned.

If you want to know more specifically what I was referring to, I was thinking of the time when the show's creators showed a depiction of Jesus defecating on the American flag (supposedly to make fun of the Mohammed cartoon controversy, though the Christians were still picked on particularly much then because the depictions of Mohammed in the cartoon controversy weren't obscene), and of a very obscene parody of crying Mary statues that was aired on the feast day of the Immaculate Conception (this was almost certainly on purpose); instead of crying, the statue in the show was spraying blood from its... unmentionable parts.

(Please note: I can hardly believe I even got myself to type that; but I need to get my point across.)

For reasons such as these, I feel that I definitely should be vocal in complaining about it. The show should really be gotten rid of completely, and I would LOVE that to happen. It's not only meant to make people laugh; it's also meant to make other people angry and offended, and that's NOT okay.

Okay people, I'm gonna say this, and you may not like it. South Park is supposed to be offensive. It wouldn't be South Park without it. Those who can't take it as a joke need to be quiet or not watch the show. I am a Christian, and I don't feel hurt by the Christian bashing one bit. It's a freakin' joke.

You call yourself a Christian, and yet you aren't offended by what I just described?! Either you haven't heard nearly everything about the show and didn't know about those things, or you are the sort of person that makes me truly sick.

Exactly, it wouldn't be South Park without the offensive crap in it. That's why the show needs to be gotten rid of. And that's why people like me DON'T need to be quiet.

EDIT: DANG TYPO!!!!!

I'm a gamer, and South Park is really offensive to me. But the reasons I find it offensive are completely different, and have nothing to do with gaming.

I actually have never even seen the show. But I've heard about certain episodes in it, and read about the show on Wikipedia, so I already know that it contains things I consider very highly offensive.

Very cool smfan1085.  Your the first person to actually use the tool for what it was intened.  Why didn't you click the grid to change to the sky blue background?

Oh, I didn't know I could do that.

And thanks for the compliment.

Once you get the Tropical Island editor done, I can post an image of another one of my levels. I also have one finished one and one unfinished one from Lava Dome, and three made from the Special Kits (one from each kit).

P.S.  This is probably obvious, but other people are welcome to construct the levels I make that I post here. I can't share them through Wi-Fi yet because, as I said, I don't have a Wi-Fi connection yet.

Last night I desided to make a page were you could drag the sprites onto the grid and put a background behind it. Check out what I've done so far at http://kontek.net/Luigison/MvDK2images/drag.htm
That is awesome. Now I can save copies of my levels so that I can erase them on my game to make room for more, and then re-make them on the game when I feel like it! The updated versions of the editing tool (which I noticed afterward, since I didn't read that far through the topic yet) are even better.

I don't have any friend codes yet, because I don't have a Wi-Fi connection at this time. I plan on getting one, though.

But here is the design for the first level I ever made. It's also the only Mushroom Mayhem one I have currently. (Yes, it is very simple, but it is, after all, my first one. I have others which are more original.)

SMA has way too much voice acting for its own good. I don't know half the stuff the characters are saying (partially because when you beat three enemies in a row, that long clip is cut off when you get that heart that appears). And when you beat a red Birdo... is she saying, "I... hate you!" or what?

I think Peach's three-kill saying is "Fresh from the garden!" (apparently referring from the vegetables). Someone on GameFAQs, I believe, said it was "Fresh from the bottle!", but that makes no sense and it also sounds more like "garden".

If I'm remembering correctly, the red Birdo says "How could you?!"

I always knew what Mario says at the star selection in SM64, but the "pickle" thing sounds pretty funny.

In Super Mario Sunshine, whenever Mario dies, I thought he says Blarro! It's actually "The Horror!"

He sometimes says "The Horror!" when he dies. Other times he says "Arrivederci" (like someone else said), and possibly other things, maybe.

Ending of Yoshi's Island = possibly the best game ending EVER.

My view on [racial slur] stole my bike? The first couple original ones were good. 98% of the rest of them are not even remotely clever or funny, but people still vote 5 on them all like sheep, and that annoys me.
I personally think a lot of the others are funny too, though some are only slightly funny because they are basically just "----- stole some video game character's bike", sometimes without even a music edit. I still find the scenarios humorous to some extent, though - some criminal from the real world is coming in and stealing stuff from characters in games, thereby interfering with what's supposed to happen in the games. Some are rather creative, though, with unique twists; those I tend to find funnier. I would post examples, but it might be against the rules here to link to sites like those (as NB said).

I'm right-handed, but I have a lot of friends who are left-handed.

The "----- Stole My Bike" fad is one of the funniest fads on YTMND in my opinion, and if you think about it, it isn't making racist statements exactly. It isn't implying that all blacks are criminals, or that they all deserve to be called "-----". (I can't speak for all the individual sites in the fad, though; some of them may actually be racist.)

Oh, and people, quit being hard on Nintendo Bros. I find that very annoying.

That is possible. Games like point blank are making a comeback, why not Zork?

Back on topic, I think Yoshi Touch & go was pretty good. Not the best, but worth a play. It' great because of it's great pick up n' play style of gameplay, and was arcade-like in nature because of the fact you can have a blast trying to beat your current high score. Great to play when you've beaten and/or are tired of the other games in your DS library.

I like that game too. It's awesome. It has a nice YI-ish feel to it.

I'll have a friend code once I finally get a DS Wi-Fi connection. I've designed three levels in the game so far, though two of them are very simple.

Hmm, does it deal with bikes being stolen?

Yup.

If I said what my favorite YTMNDs were, I'd probably be called a racist. I'm not, though.

You mean the black and white level based on Kirby's Dream Land? If so, you need to fly up to the moon at the top of the very last room in the level, and enter a hidden door right where the moon is. That will get you to the switch nice and easy.
