Author Topic: Posting Ranks  (Read 16855 times)

« on: September 27, 2008, 07:17:07 PM »
What if TMK featured Posting Ranks? I haven't seen many forums that don't have posting ranks.

It could be simple as:

At least 0: Goomba
At least 70: Koopa Troopa
At least 150: Regular Toad
At least 2000: Superstar

etc, etc. The only current ranking system we somewhat have are nicknames...perhaps we could take it a step further?

If ranks are based on post count then they would encourage spam which is not good no matter what some Hawaiians say.  A karma system like Slashdot has would be nice, but I don't think this board is large enough for such a scheme to be effective.

I've always though post-based ranking systems were ridiculous. Quality is better than quantity.

Exactly. Besides, I'd feel inadequate if anyone's post count was bigger than mine and would feel compelled to purchase some form of Natural Post Count Enhancement.

I've seen this before. I've also seen it abused. Not a good idea.

Posting ranks are ridiculous. I think the mod-lent CTs we have right now aren't the greatest thing in the world, but their better than most of the alternative(s).

Custom titles you can't customize are the best!

So, by your logic, your custom title sucks.

Yeah didn't read. It's not that important anyway to have Custom titles.

I must be pretty darn special then, being the only person in this thread without a custom title.

EDIT: Nevermind, I'm just as unimportant of the rest of you now.

Hahahaha, my plan WORKED!

On the KHU forums you could edit your custom title if you spent some of the currency from their built-in RPG system on it.  Then they took out the RPG, so then the requirement was 1000 posts.  But I had edited mine before they changed the site, so I had my own CT without all the posting.  I swear, the CTs were the only good part of that site.  I'm glad I left.

What's KHU? (I know it's probably really obvious)

Well, I know this technically isn't the Custom Titles thread (or whatever--no one's really posted there in a while), but that seems to be direction things have gone, so... where did mine come from, anyway? I figured it was from PL's farewell post, but he never explicitly referred to me as such.

It's actually an elaborate satire. You're really just garden-variety, generically charming.

Speaking of which, I grow tired of my dusty old current CT. Need some more material.

No! I don't want that!

You're crying bump, but this thread was previously sitting smack in the middle of the first page of Site Discussion.

Not a bump.

Oh... that's the criteria for a bump? It was over two months since a post here and Site Discussion doesn't get as many threads as other boards, is all I figured.

The criteria for a bump is:

Does it contribute to the thread? (I this case...debatable)
Has it been a long time? (two months is pretty long)
Is the thread itself worth reviving? (again, debatable)

No, the criterion of a bump is:

Does it move the thread to the top of the thread list?

Yes, all posts are technically bumps. People usually only get mad when the bump causes a thread to rise from great depths and age back to the top and for no good reason.

More like all bumps are technically posts.
And all topics are justs posts without anything before them.
