Author Topic: More Cameos NOT Included  (Read 37582 times)

« on: January 09, 2006, 06:36:42 PM »
I am suprised that many games that include a Mario reference is missing. I am currently seeing missing info from:
Pikmin 2.

Also, in Pikmin 1, you state that Olimars partners name is Luji. It is, in fact, Louie, or Looie.

Okay, in Pikmin 2, there are a couple of missing info, like the Item Flame Of Tommorow, which includes Bowser on the front of matchstick packet.

These will theoretically be fixed as we finish databasing the game info.

If you know a game that has Mario cameos/references but you don't see the game in the system lists, please let me know.

Animal Crossing: Wild World isn't on the  list. You can wear a Mario Hat and a Mario Nose with Moustache!
There's also a Luigi's hat, but I don't know if there's a Lugi's nose
Plus, Mario himself does appear in Nintendogs, you can drive a Mario Kart around and your dogs chase it

Kirby Canvas Curse has a couple of enemies that are Mario-like. Thudds are very much like Thwomps; they hang in midair, and crash down when Kirby gets colse. Another note, there are 3 sizes of Thudd--there are 2 sizes of Thwomps, too. Also, there are firebars in the volcano levels.

Yeah, there is a game that has Mario References. Dragon Quest VIII.

To be exact, The Monster Arena. The guy who runs it is named "Morrie", And he's a Red and Green clad...erm..."Pimp"...who has a moustache speaks with an italian accent. Kinda like our favorate plumber, except Mario's a tad overweight and can't revive dead monsters.

However, this may be a coincidence (A giant coincidence, I might add), if not for the fact that his name and four bunny girls have more two add, which are related to each other.

If you speak to the bartender that's in front of the Monster Arena gates, He makes a refference to the four bunny girls (Marrie, Merrie, Mirrie and Murrie, If I remember correctly), and says somthing about the "Super Morrie-o Sisters". If you don't catch at least one reference at this point I will hit you with a mallet. Morrie-o Sounds like Mario. Super Morrie-o Sisters can be linked to Super Mario Brothers. Should be pretty obvious at this point.

Anyways, that's all I have to contribute at this point.

Talon, the Mario look-a-like from LoZ: Ocarina of Time, makes an appearance in LoZ: The Minish Cap.
On Link's Awakening, deliver the letter to Mr. Write in the trading sequence, it will show you the picture he received in the envelope. It's Princess Toadstool
Many Mario enemies are in LA that were not mentioned on the site: Piranha Plants, Bob-Ombs (known in the game as Bombites), Shy Guys, Cheep Cheeps, and Boo (Boo is actually a good guy).

As soon as I get a hold of Zelda: Collector's Edition, I will play the first two Zelda's for the first time.

It's hard to believe since I'm such a big Mario and Zelda fan, but I've never even played the original Legend of Zelda, Link's Awakening, Adventure of Link, Oracle of Seasons, or Oracle of Ages.

Come to think of it, I've only played the original Super Mario Brothers ONCE, and it was when I was six-years-old; and I only played it for a few minutes at an arcade.

So I better move Super Mario Brothers up near the top of my most wanted list. ;)

EDIT: Wow, I didn't realize how much I went off topic. XD

Sorry for the bump, and forgive me if this bump was useless, but I was watching Fox 5 (NY) and I watced the 10pm news and there was a report on the news people mentioning the old SMB for the NES. It was a part of an April's Fool prank where some kids left boxes that are decorated like ? blocks. They said something about a bombsquad and that investigation is going underway.

Again, I'm not sure if this counts as a cameo in the real world and I apologize if I'm not contributing in anyway.

I'll go see if there's a video about the news last night and I'll see if I can post a link.

Also, in a Mucha Lucha episode I saw a while ago, the main character is playing a computer game with 1-Up Mario noises and coin noises. That's about it for now.

Bumps are fine as long as they pertain to the topic. I also have something to add.

At the beginning of Futurama episode #1ACV01 ("Space Pilot 3000"), Fry is playing an arcade game called "Monkey Fracas Jr." He comments:
Quote from: Philip J. Fry
Space. It seems to go on and on forever. But then you get to the end and a gorilla starts throwing barrels at you.
The game invloves flying a small spaceship past several Saturn-like planets until you get to one large one. A Donkey Kong-like gorilla pops out of the large one and throws barrels at the ship, which the player must shoot or dodge.

I found a couple possible Mario references in Pikmin2.  One of the mushrooms you find is called the 'Growshroom'.  According to Olimar's notes, the ship believes that a person will grow giant if they eat it.  Also, the crown that you find looks a lot like Princess Peach's crown.

Now I could be wrong, but I think the weird coloring might have to do with likeness issues; they changed the coloring around so that people would still recognize the characters but it wouldn't completely infringe Nintendo's copyright.

There used to be this show called Mad About You. Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt played a recently married couple that lived in New York City, and they owned a dog. The dog's name was Murray (sp?). Later on in the series, they hired one of their friends to watch the dog temporarliy while they went on vacation, but it ended up that he was going to watch Murray all the time.

Their friend often called Murray many silly names, and I think one time, he said, "Ok, let's go, Super Murray-O"

Mad About You used to come on a block of USA's early morning programming (8am-11:30, or something like that), and I would get up before going to work to watch it. I thought it was funny, and was likely half awake when I thought I heard the Mario cameo, so it may not even be there.

If it's not there, sorry to have wasted your time with a useless post. :/

I remember seeing Link and Navi (Hail the Mayor for killing Navi!) and Jigglypuff in PPG, but a play on the Marios?  I guess it's possible, since they did put quite a few Nintendo references in that show.
I remember that Dexter's Laboratory episode.  I just never thought much of the similarities, since the guy didn't have any red on him, nor did he have a brother in green working with him.  But now that I think of it, there are some vague similarities.

I've been watching this show called Kappa Mikey lately (I like it's odd humor), and it is chock-full of reference to basically everything. There were these two kids that sounded like and had the same hair as Luffy from One Piece; they were just small, fat, and spoiled due to their father owning the biggest toy store in Tokyo. In one of the most recent (or the most reason) episodes, there is a doctor by the name of Dr. Katashi, who has a name, hair (yellow, though), and a left eye-covering headband that is an exact reference to Kakashi Hatake from the Naruto series.
Anyways...
The Mario cameo. Well, the protagonists in Kappa Mikey are a part of Lily-Mu Studios, which produces the Lily-Mu TV show (yes, a TV show about a TV show). The characters' own video game was just upon release, and they showed what the gameplay looked like in a commercial. What do you know, it was an exact replica of Donkey Kong level-wise; it just had the TV show protagonists fighting Gonard, the antagonist in the TV show, who was throwing barrels at them while two of the antagonists dodged and managed to reach the "princess."

In the premier episode of the Cash Cab: After Dark (It was a little while ago)
One question goes a follows:
"In the Nintendo Entertainment System game, Super Mario Bros., what is the name of Mario's slightly younger brother?"

How about instead of posting them here, you all get us video, pictures, and/or audio of these cameos and we'll post then. Actually, I will personally post them. And you know I'm good with updates and promises!
<Kojinka> When I saw this thread back on top, I was afraid this was gonna be another pointless bump by a new member, but when I saw Super-Jesse's username, my fears were laid to rest.

Can anyone send us pictures of the Mario bumper stickers in Metroid Prime 3? Though we prefer actual screen shots, digital camera photos would be OK for now, just as long as I can see what they look like.

The episode 'Imaginationland' of South Park tonight had a Mario cameo in it.

I was half paying attention when a character informed that the titular land contained every silly idea. I somehow knew..... He was in the audience in the corner in one shot behind a larger creature a bit later. He had an 'E' on his hat for obvious copyright issues.

If I can find a screenshot I'll submit it.

I didn't want to have to be the jerk that got all specific and had to point it out, but I can't help it. It's a sideways "m", not an "E". The mistake is understandable though.

Not sure if this is help any, but it does show that there is more than just a [Super Paper] Mario available. It also reveals that certain stickers come with the data of certain games (i.e. WarioWare: Smooth Moves and Super Paper Mario).

Hey, that's pretty neat. I love stuff like that, when the game adds little easter eggs from game data you have...

I was hoping they'd be something along the lines of "I Brake For Metroids" or "Honk if You're Corrupted" or "My Other Car is a Class II GFS Gunship"...

Apparently there's a Mario Party 8 sticker on the Wii Play side, but I'm not recognizing what it is exactly.

When I get MP3, I really want to get that Triforce sticker, but I don't want to fork over fifty dollars for a game I already have. (I have the GCN version of TP)

You can download a TP save, put it on your SD card, and then copy it over to your Wii.
Remember that your first Goomba boldly you walk? When Mario touched that mushroom being brought up more largely remember that you are surprised? Miscalculate your jump that pit remember that it falls?

Well, here's how to do it!

Once you've got your SD card, make a folder called "private," (yes, in lower case), make a folder in that folder called "wii," inside that, "title," inside that, "RZDE," and place the LoZ data in there, named "data.bin."

Maybe I'll do that with Mario Party 8 and Excite Truck just to get the stickers. Aside from MP3, those are the only two games I don't have that add stickers. In fact, every Wii game I DO own is on that list...
(I am enjoying Metroid Prime, so I will be getting Corruption after I finish it and Echoes. Thanks, LD.)

I just picked up a copy of Drill Dozer recently. Great game--highly recommend it. One of Jill's alternative costumes(unlocked by code for some reason) is a pair of white gloves, overalls, and a red long-sleeve shirt. However, all alt. costumes are on the menu screen--not in-game. This counts as an allusion, I'm sure.

If I can find the camera, I'll post a screen shot.
