I'm sure most of you have at one point named one of the files on your Zelda game something humorous. For example, in OoT, I always got a kick out of calling my file "Zelda", and then when Link meets Zelda she asks what his name is and then says "Zelda, eh? Sounds familiar." And of course there's the option of naming your file something like "Poop" or "Homo" and reveling in joy when you see it in the dialog. I also named my horse in TP something rather naughty which I will not repeat, which proved to conjure some hilarious one-liners from Ilia, as you can imagine. Has anyone else manipulated the save files, or am I just crazy?

I stick with Link and Epona. Though, once, I named Link Deku Boy in Majora's Mask. It was surprising that Tatl already knew his name!

I pretty much always put my own name in the files.

I can never bear using any names other than Link. It's too weird.
That was a joke.

There was that time in Ocarina of Time when I named Link "SOMEBODY".  It was funny because it sounded like every character was acting like they didn't know Link's name to make fun of him.  It worked best with Gannondorf's final lines, when he says "CURSE YOU, SOMEBODY!", because since I used all-caps, it matched his shouting, and also it's funny that he's got such a huge grudge against someone he didn't even bother to learn the name of.
CURSE YOU... SOMEBODY!

Me too, thought I once jokingly entered his name as "Lunk" instead, and laughed for eons whenever a character mentioned it.

I stopped getting a kick out of funny character names back in sixth grade.

Although every now and then I can't resist signing my initials in arcade games as "POO", "PEE", "ASS", "COW", etc.

I just use my real name or Link.

Also, "SEX" after getting a high score on Bubble Bobble.

I always either enter my name or "Link."

Since I usually start a second Zelda file after a year or two, the first time I use "Link" and the second time I use my own name. Other times, I do it the other way around (as in TP, where I also named the horse "Chevy"), but I can't honestly remember if there's any definite pattern to it.

Short for homo sapien! Link's a human, right?

Really, though, I've always visualized the use of the names "Shut Up" or "Idiot".

"Sometimes I like to name Link "I Say" because it makes all the other characters talk like Foghorn Leghorn" ~ taken from here.

Anyway, seeing as I haven't really played any Zelda (except for a little bit of LttP), I can't exactly answer this question. However, couldn't it also apply to RPGs such as Pokémon, Earthbound and Chrono Trigger as well?
