What does that checkbox do anyway? I would like to know.

Check that box when you post, and it'll fill in your username and password for you every time you post after that.

If I use that, does it place a cookie, or just remember it on the site?

If it places a cookie, then I think I'll use it.

 I would assume a cookie.

 Actually I'm quite positive it's a cookie, as any other forum I've been to has used cookies to store data similar to this.
