Title: What? The N-Gage is still here?
Post by: Mario Maniac on April 02, 2004, 02:24:57 PM
I thought the N-Gage was a failure, so why is it still on the market?

At a N-Gage fan site, I read that Nokia is already making the N-Gage 2, and it will be redesigned. Nokia hopes to fix all of the problems that plauged the first N-Gage.

Well, it's good that Nokia has admitted their failure, and that they are willing to improve the N-Gage. Yeah right, good luck Nokia (NOT!).

I don't care how much Nokia wants to improve the N-Gage, Sony's PSP and Nintendo's DS will still overshadow the N-Gage's sales. Nobody cared about the N-Gage to begin with, and I highly doubt Nokia will become successful. They failed with their first gaming system, and that has ruined their reputation.

Mario Maniac seems like the kind of guy who "Goes with the wind", if you know what I mean...

No, I don't know what you mean. Anyway, they'll need a whole lot if the N-Gage 2 to not be a waste of money.

As for Mario Maniac, I'm always in a state of confusion. And right now I don't know what to be more confused about: Why he keeps posting all this stuff that doesn't make sense, or how it came to be that this topic isn't in GMc and doesn't end with an ellipsis.

Hey, that's a cool pic. Heh heh.

Anyway, when I said "Goes with the wind", I meant "is easily swayed by the public opinion." For example, after making many topics in the past that bashed the Sony and it's Playstation, PS2, and upcoming PSP, Mario Maniac now says Nintendo and SONY make the best opinions. I'm assuming he said this because several members on this board have a rather high regard of Sony and its' video game consoles, and have informed Mario Maniac as such.

Just you wait; if N-Gage 2 is a success, I guarantee you Mario Maniac will make at least five topics in favor of the N-Gage 2.

Uh, no. I highly doubt the N-Gage 2 will be a success, seeing as how terribly the original sold.

Nokia is already making a new N-Gage just months after the first N-Gage was released! Well, I congratulate them for trying, but Nokia should realize that their first system was a failure, and that will ruin their reputation.

This is my opinion, nobody else's.

What Nokia should do to improve on their terrible design of the first N-Gage is this:

1. Make the screen larger. A bit bigger than the GBA screen.
2. Have a seperate area for number buttons and game buttons. And do not mix the game buttons with the number buttons, that is just way too confusing.
3. Redesign the system so that the game cards are inserted SEPARATE from the battery compartment.
4. Make the battery last longer.
5. Encourage more third-party developers to support the system with QUALITY games.
6. Make the N-Gage's price less than $300, possibly less than $200.
7. ADVERTIZE the system more! More advertizing means more people will become interested in the N-Gage. Sony and Nintendo know how to market their games, Nokia needs to learn from them.

If Nokia can improve the N-Gage successfully, then I might change my mind about the system. But for now, I will continue to doubt their success.

All I wanted was to hear your opinions on the N-Gage, I wasn't trying to start a war at the forums...

I think Nokia advertised the N-Gage plenty.  I remember seeing TV comercials all the time saying "This is where I got farther with Laura than anyone else..." or something like that, refering to the N-Gage version of Tomb Raider and apparently focusing on portability as a selling point.

I don't know a darn thing about marketing, but I know that as a consumer, I just didn't care about the N-Gage.  Portability is not a selling point when I already own an equally portable GBA-SP.  And I didn't see anything else about the N-Gage that was a particularly unique selling point...it didn't seem to have a very large game library, and I have no desire to use my portable gaming system as a cel-phone (or, for that matter, to use my cel-phone as a portable gaming system).

If Nokia wants ME to buy an N-Gage 2, they've got to give me some unique reason to do so.  Free wireless massively-multiplayer online gameplay would be a pretty good reason.  I crave online gameplay, but I can't afford a monthly fee.  But I'm guessing free quality online gameplay is not going to happen anytime soon, especially not from Nokia...

This is not a signature.

I think Nokia has already established an online gaming network. I think it's called N-Gage Arena... I read it on their website.

Why is the N-Gage still recieving (limited) support if not many people bought the system?

I read in an old gamepro magazine(the "lamepro" section) a parody of the N-Gage and it's ads. "This is where I lost all hope in jokia. Jokia N-rage. Disapointment. anywhere."

Why did Watoad post a picture of Spiky Blue Shell and The Big Boo?

I think that there's a possibility of the N-Gage 2 failing, but it would be regardless of how bad the first one was.  I mean, why else would they be making even more Mario Parties?

Okay...

I think the reason N-Gage 2 might fail is because the first system failed. The success of a videogame company relies on how popular their games and systems are. Nokai's N-Gage was not popular, and it did not have many games (about 10 games total), so that's why it failed.

If the N-Gage 2 is released, people will remember how terrible the first system was, and they will turn away from it.

Markio, I posted that picture of them because this is the first time that I've seen them post right next to each other—and Spiky Blue Shell's response of, "No, I don't know what you mean," to The Big Boo's obvious and easily understandable statement sounded to me like the kind of thing that real-life-type friends would say to each other.

"Greetings from Belgium, the only country in Europe where the leading source of natural gas is the local dairy farm."
