Not at the Dinner Table / Tea Party candidate against masturbation
« on: September 15, 2010, 11:33:05 AM »

This woman won the Delaware primary the other day. Christine O'Donnell is her name, and she apparently wanted to ban masturbation back in 1996.

So we have yet another Tea Party candidate who endorses "freedom" while simultaneously pulling for theocracy. Brilliant. Just brilliant.

Video Game Chat / Wario Ware DIY
« on: September 11, 2010, 01:40:44 AM »

I love the WarioWare series, so I'm considering buying this game. Should I? What makes it good, what are some of its flaws, is it innovative, is it easy to pick up and play, etc. The reviews for it are pretty good but I'd like a second opinion.

Show off your own microgames if you want.

General Chat / Nation States

Has anyone played this game yet? It's actually a lot of fun. You basically create your own nation (in addition to its government) and depending on how you run things, it sinks or swims.

My country is The People's Republic of Sinopaland, a fledgling, socially progressive nation where Social Welfare, Education and Healthcare are priorities. I've made my own flag and everything. Anyone care to join?

I may be horribly inattentive but how long has The Chef been a mod? Because he just locked a topic Glorb bumped.

In this thread you have to poorly describe a movie and the rest of us have to guess it. I'll start:

"Three scientists and a black guy try to blow up a door."

Not at the Dinner Table / Another reason to hate Texas

The Texas GOP wants to criminalize sodomy AND they want to punish people who support gay rights. I've never been more disappointed in my home state.

I'm really disinterested in politics right now but this woman is hilarious:

She wants to abolish the Department of Education. Seriously?

Not at the Dinner Table / Original Sin Paradox?
« on: May 03, 2010, 05:12:44 AM »
According to Christianity, humans are inherently sinful. Original sin is humanity's state of sin resulting from the Fall of Man. However, our rebellion against God cannot be the cause of our sinful nature, because for said rebellion to occur we must have had a sinful nature to begin with. Did God intentionally make us sinful?

This is just for fun. Make an alignment chart featuring characters from a series of your choosing. I picked DBZ:

My goal here is to generate discussion I guess. Don't play if you hate alignment charts.

EDIT: Got rid of the link to the risqué site.

Not at the Dinner Table / Determinism vs. Free Will
« on: October 01, 2009, 01:09:24 PM »
"Determinism is the view that every event, including human cognition, behavior, decision, and action, is causally determined by an unbroken chain of prior occurrences."

"Free will raises the question whether, and in what sense, rational agents exercise control over their actions, decisions, choices."

Are you a determinist or do you believe in free will? Do we have the ability to make our own choices, or are our decisions determined by prior events?  Discuss. Please cite evidence to support your beliefs.

Not at the Dinner Table / Transitional Fossil
« on: May 19, 2009, 05:36:15 PM »
http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2009/may/19/ida-fossil-missing-link

"Scientists have discovered an exquisitely preserved ancient primate fossil that they believe forms a crucial 'missing link' between our own evolutionary branch of life and the rest of the animal kingdom."

The term "missing link" is a misnomer (the correct term is "transitional fossil"), but it's still pretty fascinating. Any comments?
