Mario Chat / Re: New Super Mario Brothers
« on: February 20, 2009, 05:44:31 PM »
I found that the brutal save system really just detracted from the game without upping the difficulty. For those (not really myself, by the way) who have only scant minutes in a day to spend quality time with their DS, little is more frustrating than just having blazed through a tough chunk of the game only to be forced to shut it off without a saving oppurtunity due to other obligations. And if Nintendo seriously expects them to have the system in sleep mode almost 24/7, they're truly being retarded... wheelchair-bound... political correctness will be the death of us... special. NSMB wasn't a particularly challenging game by any means, but the saving system is unreasonable for, say, first-time Mario players who can barely make it to a world's halfway Tower without a game over. Even as a seasoned Mario gamer, I believe that saving just about whenever is essentially a "right" which game programmers should never deny us.

Imagine if the next Zelda title only allowed saving after one of the game's, say, seven or eight Dungeons. Eughh.

Ah yes it's Marco: Mario's illegitimate identical half-twin. He is to Mario as I am to Luigi.

Sorry for sounding dreadfully noobish, but could those of us who are still confused have a more-understandable rundown of how to upload Brawl screenshots than the "explanation" offered in the first post?

Who the heck is "we"? You find out that Samus is a girl in the original Metroid in 1986.

I meant most people who were halfway through elementary school in 2001.

Your friend was born nine months later NOTHING WAS SAID THERE

...Sorry, Shyguy. Couldn't resist. But seriously, your uncle ran into Bob Dylan at a bar? Next time you see this uncle, you shold ask him about the event by singing/wheezing, "how did it feeeel?".

Nothing in the world of Metroid freaked me out quite as much as discovering that Samus (or "Metroid" as we knew her back in 2001) was a woman. Who'd have thunk it?

Has the original Metroid even arrived on the Virtual Console yet? My apologies for being so tragically out of the loop.

Not only does it play Sega Dreamcast games on-the-go, but its exposed disc drive can double as a high-powered finger deli meat slicer!

I can recall having been so intimidated by Superstar Saga's final boss that I turned around a trained the Brothers to level fiftysomething before attempting and acheiving a prompt victory. Now that Mario and Luigi are both at level 99 and posess stats well into the 400's, my fastest time to obliterate Bowletta stands somewhere slightly below two minutes.

Unnescessary boasting aside, my other levels are pretty similar to the above. Around 42 in Partners in Time, maybe 40 in Paper Mario:TTYD, and near the maximums of 27 and 30 in Paper Mario and Super Mario RPG, respectively.

I don't really see a need for enhanced versions of post-NES games. Graphics of the Super Nintendo era and beyond are still considered appreciable in most gaming circles, am I right? If anyone disagrees that Super Mario World still has a timeless, whimsical charm due, in part, to its unique graphics, I'll claw their eyes out.

Exactly. Also, putting games on a pedestal as such really leave it open for criticism from later gaming generations. Take Super Mario Bros., for instance: "Why doesn't Fire Mario revert to Super Mario like he does in NSMB?"

Of course, this could lead to a tangent on the antiestablishment zeitgeist and how automatic disagreement with what "the Man" considers "good" could be regarded as a statement of belonging with fellow blatant critics of orthodox society more than as a voice of one's actual opinion, so let's get back to the discussion at hand.

Movie-licenced games sucking? What?! Unheard of!

Anyways, I'd say that Ocarina of Time is a pretty good game, but grossly overrated nonetheless. Comparing it to Twilight Princess is inevitable, and I find OoT to pale in comparison on almost every count -- chunkier-feeling controls, chore-like Ocarina warping... yeah. Perhaps I had just been expecting perfection from a game considered the greatest ever in the all-knowing eyes of Nintendo Power's editors.

I expect a horde of enraged Zelda fanboys to emerge from this forum and claw my eyes out within the next minute for the above statement.
