Peach's castle is gated off in Royal Raceway now but come on, everyone loves doing things the game tells you not to do.

How in the world have I not posted in this thread yet?  I spent the better part of the summer plowing through MK8 with one of my best friends, and it is awesome.  I think it's the best of the series so far. 
I always figured "Time to tip the scales" was Wario's everyday motto.

The Nintendo online store claims that the GameCube adapter will work with this as well as all games that use a Pro Controller.
