The Dragon Ball Z anime, to which I assume you all are referring to, is not something I enjoy. The English dub is horrible. One of the worst, and while the Japanese is better, the voice acting definitely cannot save the series.
Dragon Ball Z is a case of milking a franchise for all its worth. Plain and simple. There is no other way to explain the 25-35 spanning fight with Freezer. Quite disgusting really.
It gets a tad better, as it progresses from that point, but it still suffers from that problem.
The series is also plagued by a constant change of art style. In the beginning of the series, Raditsu, I believe, they had Toriyama-sama's style down quite well. His style eventually became less "rounded", like Dragon Ball, and became more serious and "angled". This happens in the Anime, too, but seriously suffers problems about mid-way through the Freezer saga. The style's constant change bugged me, as it often became too emphasized. Ah well.
The manga was more tolerable in both regards. Battles were less drawn out, and the style conversion was gradual, almost subtle. Although, what little plot there was, stunk.
I didn't mind Dragon Ball, though.
All in all, it shames me to think that when people think of anime, Dragon Ball Z comes to mind. Ah well, I guess I could only keep that to myself for so long.
