Hmmmm, -3 looks a lot like 4-4 with the underground block set... Interesting.

Very interesting, though I think his technical details are flat out wrong.  FDS SMB just has the data in the ROM in different locations, so the pointers for minus world end up in different levels.  If it hadn't been chance that resulted in regular SMB having an underwater level as minus world, there would have been more levels just like with FDS SMB.  This wasn't intentional, just chance of where the pointers ended up in the ROM.  If beating -3 lets you choose your level, that's another chance thing, problably due to the comparison routine used to determine whether you're allowed to select your level after beating the game twice normally.  i.e. IT WAS ALL CHANCE, NOT SOMETHING PLANNED FOR BY NINTENDO as the author of that page states.  The fact that glitchy versions of levels already in the game were used proves this.  Chance again allowed the levels to be fully playable, unlike many of the levels obtained when using Game Genie codes.  If Nintendo did actually know about the bug, it's possible that they made sure the pointer at least went to playable levels instead of fixing the actual bug (which may have required extensive rewriting of the game engine).

They never took it out, doofus.
That's just a copy of the original SMB ROM.

Saying "doofus" made me laugh out loud, but only because "doofus is a funny word.  BTW, is "lol" pronounced like "lull", or do you say the letters, like "El Oh El"?

So do I, but some of my friends are pretending that they're going to make their own website an call it LOL ENTERPRISES, and they pronounce it "lull".

Well even if you were to pronounce it as a word, it'd be pronounced "lahl" because an O following a consonant makes the "AH" noise.

The guy at that website doesn't know the difference between a World/Level and a Stage. For shame.

There was actually a point in time for me when I didn't laugh at all, I just said "LOL". It was weird....

It's "el-oh-el", trust me. But that Minus World thing is awesome, I wonder how it changed from the Japanese to American version... (If it said it in the article, please don't be a jerk about it because due to limited time I couldn't really read it)

Do the Mario! Swing your arms from side to side, come on, it''s time to go do the Mario! Take one step, and then again! Let''s do the Mario altogether now! Come on now! Just like that!

There are a couple variations. You don't really have to duck (I don't, and I'm not sure if it makes it any easier/harder), and the latest Nintendo Power shows a duck-jump through two blocks remaining next to the pipe.

Oh, the instructions say ducking or jumping doesn't matter. But if you leave two blocks (like Nintendo Power shows) you probably have to duck. I'm sure if I'm wrong, MEGAߥTE will correct me because he does the two-block method.

I read the following refering to minus world on forums.nintendo.com.  Can anyone confirm if it works?

"Did it and now I can get there any time I want to by holding "A" and pressing "Start" on the title screen (The "Continue from last world, first level" code). The trick is to save your high-score when you get there because it also saves it as the last world you played. Don't believe me? Take a warp zone or save a mushroom retainer then save your high-score (Press L + R and select the menu option). Then power off and back on again. Hold "A" and press "Start" on the title screen and you will return to the first level in that world. In the original, this was originally only supposed to work if you got game over in that world to allow you to continue only a level or so behind where you were (ie, die and get Game Over on 4-1, 4-2, 4-3 or 4-4 and you can resume at 4-1) but a nuance or the high-score save feature saves a complete dump of the memory allowing this trick to work after powering off."

Yes! I did it on my NES. Holding A and pressing Start takes you back to the Minus World. I didn't understand the rest of what he said, though.

The GBA version holds the entire NES RAM in its save, so if you were to save after playing in World -1, then it would be like you had just played it the next time you ran the game.  In other words, the forum post was correct (amazing for something posted on Nintendo's forums).  Unfortunately, it seems that once you save after completing the game once, you also get stuck with Buzzy Beetles instead of Goombas unless you clear the memory (undocumented according to David).  Deezer said it was that was in Animal Crossing as well.  You'd think they would have done something about that...

Pikachu got mad at me though... =( Anyone know why he does? Is it just part of the glitch or was Nintendo aware of it and decided to make Pikachu ge mad when going there because they were?

However, it is still being a glitch.
If you are losing a life in -2, Mario will restart UNDER a bridge and you will have no choice but to accept the defeating!

The -1 from the cartridge is still in existing!

In the FDS version it is Coin -1(World 45)
In the cartridge it was World 35.

In the FDS version, be sure to take a peeking at Q-1. It contains a Warp Zone like the one that takes you to -1 in the cartridge version.
You will be the bread for my mustard of doom due a counterattack you were least expecting!

I HAVE FURY!
