Title: Wario Land: Shake It! on September 29th in the USA
Post by: David on June 25, 2008, 07:24:17 AM
NOA sent out a press release concerning some of their 2008 titles, and they helpfully included a release date for the new Wii Wario Land platformer.  Wario Land: Shake It! (http://themushroomkingdom.net/games/wlsi) will be released in the USA on September 29th of this year.

Wario Land™: Shake It!, a classic side-scroller for the Wii console launching Sept. 29, stars Wario, the smelly, bad-mannered alter ego of Mario™. With the Wii Remote™ controller turned sideways like an old-school controller, veterans and newcomers alike can run, jump and smash their way through hectic side-scrolling stages. Players shake the Wii Remote to help Wario take down his enemies, empty bags of treasure or cause earthquakes. Best of all, there are numerous stages each offering multiple missions to keep players coming back again and again to unlock everything, collect more coins or just improve their best times.

Everything but the name sounds fairly promising (Wario = Mario's "alter ego"?!?).

I thought this was using the balance board. I guess they changed their minds.

(Wario = Mario's "alter ego"?!?).
That's exactly what I was wondering...

Wario Land, not WarioWare.

(Wario = Mario's "alter ego"?!?).

Mario is mild-mannered - Wario is rude
Mario is handsome and fit - Wario is ugly and fat
Mario is selfless - Wario is greedy
Mario's name starts with M - Wario's name starts with an upside-down M
Mario is hygienic - Wario is not hygienic

How many more examples do you need? I'm pretty sure Wario was originally created to be an opposite version of Mario.

Generally, "Alter Ego" means the same person, but with a different identity.  For example, Superman is the alter ego of Clark Kent.

alter ego (plural alter egos)

   1. Somebody's alternate personality or persona; a second self.
   2. A very close and intimate friend. (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/alter_ego)

So Wario's, Mario's doppelganer?

Wario definitely isn't Mario's close friend. The way this is written, it makes it sound like Mario actually is Wario. The end.

"Doppelganger" originally referred to someone who bilocates, but now it usually just means someone who looks like someone else.

I must admit though, it would make for an interesting (yet stupid) plot twist.

Mario is handsome and fit

I'm not sure if many people will agree with you. If Mario is fit, then what is Luigi? Underweight?

If anything, Mario is very slightly pudgy. I swear, at this forum you can't say anything without it being crucially analyzed.

I think "obese" is the only thing that passes for "not fit" in some places these days.

Mario is fat, but he's handsome fat. You know, his fatness is what makes him look so charming. Wario on the other hand is ugly fat. His fatness is what makes him unappealing.

That's not fat, it's muscle. (According to the Wario World instruction manual)

Well, there's definitely a pretty good amount of muscle in there. Look at those arms.

It's just got some padding.

This other editor remembers a newspaper article about how "Sega's mascot Mario" was more recognisable than Mickey Mouse.

It's sad this happened...
