Title: SSBB: Stickers: Collect them all!
Post by: Super-Jesse on August 15, 2007, 05:09:01 AM
(https://themushroomkingdom.net/board/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fthemushroomkingdom.net%2Fimages%2Fss%2Fssbb%2Fvarious03_070815a-l.jpg&hash=32db8c3db7503b6fcc51e699a4aeeff8)

Today's DOJO!! (http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/index.html) update detailed a rather peculiar collectible element, simply known as "Stickers", that has been added to Super Smash Bros. Brawl (http://themushroomkingdom.net/games/ssbb). Stickers work much like the trophies from Super Smash Bros. Melee (http://themushroomkingdom.net/games/ssbm), except there are much easier to collect, with players earning them the instant they start a game. The sizes and characters featured on the sticker will vary, and there is even an extra mode where you can decorate things by putting stickers on them, creating things like a single frame comic. One aspect that wasn't detailed about these was the ability to save screen shots from the game and used them as stickers. This was mentioned with only a teaser sentence, so hopefully we can get information on that in the future.

In the meantime, check out the remaining pictures by clicking the links below!

I wonder if the stickers will appear even if you turn off items. If not, then Bird Person won't be happy.

Stickers. One of the best words ever.

So it's art lifted from a bunch of Nintendo games that you can... stick on stuff. I can barely contain my excitement.

Hope this doesn't exclude trophies...

No, silly. They already confirmed trophies are still around in the very same update.

Quote from: Super Smash Bros. DOOOOOOOJOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stickers are easier to get a hold of than trophies.
To me, this doesn't say, "There are more stickers here than trophies in Melee, so that automatically makes them better! No trophies for you, olooololoolololololoooo!" Instead it says "This is a gimmick we threw into Brawl because it requires almost no effort. Have fun with it anyway." Nothing you couldn't do with Internet access and MS Paint...
Edit: Unless a sticker could fall into your eye and force your character to go insane and fall off the edge in agony, stickers can appear in normal brawls and I won't mind (I doubt they would appear in plain multiplayer at all). It's when a bomb suddenly drops from above the ground right where I'm standing as I'm about to launch my final attack and kills me, or when I'm waiting to attack and a fan appears, and I pick it up by mistake and don't attack. Sure, items have even chances of giving me an unfair advantage too, but what if I don't want that possibility?

I love the fact that Toad appears in at least two of those pictures. I hate his proximity to the Hammer Bro, though. It's as if they are saying Toad will be an AT. I guess I shouldn't get my hopes up for Toad being playable..

I doubt Toad is going to be playable, I don't think he ever will, I mean ffs, he is one of Peach's moves. He doesn't have any attacks. I hate to kill your hopes, but I don't think he will ever be a fully playable character in Smash.

Combine his moves from SMB2 and Wario's Woods, and you got yourself a playable character! Although I dunno how much fun stacking stuff would be in a fighting game....

Allright I see someone all ready got to it, I wanted it deleted because I see Toad(The FF poster) apparently already knows all the arguments against toad, as I saw in another board. But, I don't think that is enough attacks still. sure, you can probably give him 4 Physical attacks, and a grab, but there is onthign you can do about special attacks. Peach already took all the Mario Sports game moves. I can not think of four or five specials moves. I'd love to see toad as a playable character, but unfortunately I have an incredible feeling that it won't happen ever, and even more not so for Brawl.

That could be an idea for his Final Smash: the arena turns into a Wario's Woods like setting, and those alien things and bombs fall from the sky blocking in all the other players so they can't move. Then, the giant Thwomp at the top of the screen comes down as the arena fades back to normal, crushing everything in it's path.

As for other Smash attacks, his Smash A move could be like Peach's in that it switches between 3 items: tennis racket, Anchor, Warp Whistle.

Toad's weight would be somewhere between Kirby and Pikachu: He wouldn't be so light that the slightest little hit would send him flying, but he wouldn't be so heavy that he could stand alongside DK and Bowser, either.

Dude, you're saying people like Captain Falcon and the freakin' Ice Climbers had a panoply of great moves to use in Smash Bros.? No, they just pick cool people and make up cool moves.

I am positive Toad is bigger than a Pikachu, maybe three times as much.
He could spread toxic spores from his shroomy head.

Or perhaps Toad will spend another SSB game inside Peach's dress.

While that's hilarious and all, if you play and pause long enough and enough times, respectively, you will catch Peach making Toad materialize behind her back.

What do you mean "make up moves"? Falcon PUNCH is totally a move I use in F-Zero! It's what I do to my TV when I lose as the Blue Falcon. FALCON...PUNCH!

Never tought I'd see Rawk Hawk again, especially in a non-paper game.

Do you suppose, Paper Mario, could be a playable character much like Dr. Mario before him?

One Mario is enough. If anything, Paper Mario will be back as a collectible sticker, just like he appeared as a trophy in Melee.

A Paper Mario character would be sweet, an assist trophy at least.

Oh, I completely agree! Because a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong list of playable characters creates insta-win. Everyone knows that. Goomba, Koopa Troopa, Shy Guy, Boo, Birdo, Petey Piranha, Bowser Jr., Octorok, Moblin, Ruto, King Zora, Darunia, every incarnation of Link there ever was, Waddle Dee, Waddle Doo, Sword Knight, each of the four hundred and ninety-six Pokémon, Mr. Stevenson, a Metroid, and all manner of obscure/useless/annoying/"why?" characters need to be playable or I will not buy the game. If I were in charge, I'd say to forget assist trophies and make all the characters said to be playable. And how about other characters like SpongeBob, Charlie Brown, Picard, or Anubis? Yes, that'd be excellent!

Good point. Good point.
Now that I think about it, a Toad would have made a great Ness clone in Melee. But that obviously can't happen now. I guess I see what you mean about being able to make up move-sets. However, I still feel it's unlikely.

Paper Mario has more merit than Dr. Mario ever did to be a character.

Neither of them, because first of all, Dr Mario is the same as regular Mario. Secondly, Paper Mario is an art style, not a character. It's Mario, in paper form. Finally, I don't think Toon Link should have been a character, seeing as he is an art style, much like Paper Mario.

I consider him to be a new rendition of Young Link.  So does that mean Baby Mario should be available?
Title: Re: SSBB: Stickers: Collect them all!
Post by: Toad on July 17, 2008, 05:11:29 PM
Ok, mabey I should clarify..

Dr Mario/Toon Link are the same as Mario/Link because they have the same moves. Yes, I know some of thier moves are slightly different (Toon Link's Up B is a multi-hitter, Link's just.. hits), but in essense they are the same character.

Baby Mario would likely have a different moveset than Mario, so he might be ok. But I am not a supporter of putting baby characters in with the adult characters, except in cases where the story calls for it (ie: Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time)

Toon Link is absolutely necessary. He represents The Wind Waker, which is just as much a Zelda game as Twilight Princess is, cel-shading haters aside. He also represents the sequel, Phantom Hourglass. There are other games that use a style like The Wind Waker as well--Four Swords, Adventures, The Minish Cap... and on top of that, there's the fact that Link is, more often than not, a kid. Note the alternate costume that clothes Toon Link in the colors of classic Legend of Zelda Link, while Real Link does not have anything like that.

As far as super Smash Bros. is concerned, it's generally agreed that Toon Link is way easier to use than Link. I'll say it again, clones in general aren't that bad when they play differently enough. Look at Captain Falcon and his clone, Blood Falcon Ganondorf. The two have similar moves but play so differently because of speed and weight. Ness and Lucas really only look like they have similar moves, but in function they're pretty different.

And finally, you'd all better hope that any and all babies stay out of Smash, because I won't hold back on the baby-eating screenshots.

I do hope the babies stay out of SSB, as playable characters. Trophies are fine, as long as the trophies remain relevant.

I kind of hoped the babies would stay out of Mario Kart, but mabey we'll have some better characters in the next game.. Really, since Nintendo seems hung up on the baby characters, they should use baby Yoshi again, since he came before all this other baby non-sense.

EDIT: My editing skills suck while I am at work.. this is like the third time I've had to edit this post. I hope it's legible now..

EDIT2: I hop it's legible.. *sigh* I give up

Either there are no more baby Yoshies, or all Yoshis are babies, or, I don't know

The Thousand-Year Door.

My main beef with baby Mario characters is that there are other candidates for Mario Kart out there, and I don't mean stupid lame characters like Wart and Stanley the Bugman. Where is E. Gadd? He's got more than enough personality after just a few games, he fits in perfectly, and he could introduce the mad scientist's theme to a racing track easily. Where would he fit on the roster? Easy, kick Baby Daisy, push Diddy Kong or Bowser Jr. down to the lightweights and there's a slot for a new middleweight.

I think another problem is that there are so few new characters in each game. The only notable new character from Galaxy was Rosalina, and I think it was smart to include her in Mario Kart Wii...

Go ahead.  I still think Baby Mario and Baby Luigi have potential as a team al-a-Ice-climbers.  Look at some of their maneuvers in PiT; They could be easily translated into Smash Bros. fighting moves.

By "I won't hold back" I mean I will have a picture for each thing that can eat another player/can look like it is, and when I'm out of those I'll be sure to include one for every batch of screenshots. And I'll send replays of two Warios throwing Baby Mario back and forth with Chomp to everybody.

But I'm sure that won't end up happening. What a shame. The closest-looking thing to a baby in Brawl is Kirby, who might be forty-seven or maybe even thousands of years old...

He was supposed to sleep for 200 years in the TV anime...

Still, I could think of about a thousand characters for a Mario spin-off, and before I go on, let me reassure you that Wart is not lame. If they brought him back, he could be the tactical anthesis of Bowser, with water/bubble breath as an attack. Stanley the Bugman you're right about, thought I will admit that he deserved an SSB cameo.

Hell, there are even some enemy drones that deserve to be in more than the babies. What ever happened to Chargin' Chuck? Where's the Snifts? How about a friggin' Raphael Raven at least?

He had a trophy in Melee. What were you expecting, a Brawl stage based on the exciting, highly popular, immensely successful Donkey Kong 3?

Really Bird Person, you've been acting pretty unfair in terms of comparing opinions lately.

Only lately? Hmmm...

C'mon, you know that the trophies in Brawl didn't reach like Melee's did. Trophies or things in the game, things that could be taken from other Wii games, a few purely original ones...and if I may say, those original ones were no better-looking than Melee's. Like some of the Kirby enemies' trophies... if those weren't taken from Air Ride or something.

Speaking of Raphael the Raven, why in the world wasn't he a boss, or cameoed, in Super Mario Galaxy? His planet would have translated well into the 3D, and it would have been awesome to fight him..

If you redid the fight in 3D, wouldn't you only be able to attack Raphael when you couldn't see him?

It could have been zoomed out. Or done on a see-through planet.
