So I got the game at about 2:30 on Monday, and I've been busy with both real life and the adventures of a portly plumber since that point. So far, the game is good, although I felt surprisingly underwhelmed when I began playing today. Things have been picking up as the game has progressed, though.
Real life returns soon, then a small batch of the Galaxy. Let's see how long it takes to reach the "ending" this time.
Whenever you get your hands on the game, enjoy yourself.

...imagine Super Mario Bros. 3 (http://www.themushroomkingdom.net/games/smb3) was the last Mario title released. If the SMB3 team were to have launched straight into a 3D sequel to SMB3, that would explain where Super Mario Galaxy (http://www.themushroomkingdom.net/games/smg) came from.
Yeah, Super Mario Galaxy (http://www.themushroomkingdom.net/games/smg) is the sequel to Super Mario Bros. 3 (http://www.themushroomkingdom.net/games/smb3).
More to come later. Buy this game now, even if you don't have a Wii.
-
Whoo hoo... Mario saved the Princess.
Now to aim for 120 stars.
How is Galaxy going for the rest of you?
-
Great. I've got about thirty stars. The toads and Luigi are getting on my nerves though. All they do is get lost and need you to help them. You already have to put up with Peach begging for help. Oh well... at least she sends you 1-Up mushrooms.
-
I've bought the game. But what makes this game the sequel to SMB3. The doom ships? I would hardly call it a sequel.
-
It is very much in the style of SMB3 (and Super Mario World, really.) I always thought SM64 was pretty Marioey, but SMG really blows it out of the water.
-
Great game, nice ending. I beat it with only the 60/61 stars needed and went straight back to SSBM... now, when I go back to SMG with a strong craving for crazy gravity, I'll have 59 things to do.
-

For some reason this is understandable, yet incredibly sad.
-
I didn't give up on it or anything--I just want to save the rest for later.
Yeah, this was said some days ago.
[20:45] <Lizard_Dude> If I were Mr. Melee, I would be scared (of how much Bird plays Smash)
[20:46] <Mr_Melee> Psshaw!
[20:46] <BirdPerson> Yeah man
[20:46] <BirdPerson> I play way too much
-
How one man can play Smash for 6? years straight is beyond me.
-
...Straight?
-
Gay, whatever.

Whoo hoo... 6 days later, and I now have all 120 standard stars in Super Mario Galaxy (http://www.themushroomkingdom.net/games/smg). Now I probably need to write up a review, but for the moment all I want to say is that this game is consistently fun all the way from star #1 to star #120.
Annoying at times, but in a good way.
Don't rush yourselves, folks... there's plenty to do in this game, even after you get all 120 stars. Heh heh heh.
-
Great game, nice ending.
The ending was extremely confusing.
-
The ending and all the stories made me think of Elebits. They were cool in a way and help to explain the galaxy aspect of the game, but didn't fit with the style of SMG.

Nobody is forcing you to rescue any toads. You don't get any stars for finding them. Finished the game as both Mario and Luigi with 121 stars. I had fun.

You get one star from the red retainer (the Toad Brigade leader) in the Bigmouth Galaxy. He got himself stuck in the treasure chest behind where you start the level, and gives you the star for opening the chest.
I thoroughly enjoyed SMG, and noticed that in one fell swoop, Nintendo is not only explaining the story of the Lumas and Princess Rosalina, but the ending could be applied to other game series as well (Zelda, for instance).
-
I don't get it. I thought Bowser went flying at high speeds into the sun.
-
Corleone, you're the master of spoilage.
-
^ Like there's any other you would've expected him to die in outer space...
-
It's true, though.
Corleone has single-handedly spoiled for me everything and anything in Galaxy worth having kept secret.
-
Fair enough, but he had it coming when he spilled Luigi secrets OUTSIDE of the Luigi thread, and more or less revealed he hadn't even PLAYED the game yet.
I stand by my post.
-
Dude, I own the game...
Also, it was no secret. Pretty much everybody knew about Luigi's presence. In fact, I bet 12% of the people who bought the game bought it for Luigi.

No, when you didn't. there is such thing as a past, owning now doesn't mean you owned it then too.
And not duh luigi was known. The absolute proof Luigi is in Galaxy kinda tipped it off. It was the little thing you blurped, like him being faster and such, and him with Rosalina for the 121 star reward.
So no.
-
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR (to) PLAYING MY GAME!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who hears this.
Thanks for the impressions, everyone! It was encouraging to hear that SMG has a lot of the Mario style to it. And here I was thinking things might slowly diminish after SM64.
-
Only 70, and I've had it for a while >_<
-
I haven't played since I got all the stars. I didn't max out the star bits though.
I wonder if I start a new file and reset if I lose a life if it still counts towards the total shown at the end. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
-

Boy, you must have... how's retirement? ;)
-
I beat the game today. Yay! There were two family members and a kid from the neighborhood in the room during the final battle. They were very annoying!
-
Boy, you must have... how's retirement? ;)
If by retirement, you mean playing the 20 games I bought my self over the past few months since then, it's going quite well.
-
It's just that, well... you said "only 70", and I was joking that it was referring to your age...
-
Oh.....HAHAHAHA :D
