Game Blog / Re: "Museum of Mario" Mini-site by IGN

While the information might be off and some of the chronology might be wrong, it is a visually appealing little museum. It would be neat to see this done for other franchises as well.

TEM: Doing well. Here's a question for you... for how long will your Chinese excursion last? Are you teaching for a set number of years and then planning on coming back, or are you interested in taking up residence in China? I have a friend who went to South Korea to teach English with some program for a couple of years, but when his term ends he'll be returning.

Fan Creations / Re: Self-Portraits

While this isn't a self-portrait, I feel like this is an appropriate time for me to repost what was perhaps my greatest achievement in MS Paint. And hey, they're *supposed* to be portraits of people of who once frequented these parts.

"Is this some kind of joke?"

Winter 2005 ADVANCED Poster awards were still the best.

I'll tell you what. I went to Australia once a few years back. I had Vegemite on a piece of bread and I felt sick for two days. My vote would be "gross" if that were an option.

General Chat / Re: Polyphasic sleep
« on: February 21, 2013, 09:37:04 AM »
When I was in college, three guys tried the Everyman sleep cycle. The first guy quite after the first week. The second guy made it a month but was completely dysfunctional. It worked for the other guy, and it did all his work at night when everyone else was sleeping, and then proceded to bother everyone else during the day with all his free time.

I guess it depends on your disposition. I know I could never do that.

I don't get much more than 5 hours a night now, but it is plenty enough for me. Usually 12:00-5:00

The only thing missing in the great comeback of 2012-2013 is Vidgmchtr.

I suppose I don't feel completely qualified to vote.. I am just not plugged-in here anymore. I would, however, love to vote for the categories for which I'm competent to vote.

Not at the Dinner Table / Re: What's your opinion on swearing/cussing?
« on: January 16, 2013, 04:14:43 PM »
Generally, I rather find swearing or cussing to be distasteful, especially in mixed company. Occasionally, however, I find it to be appropriate. Generally in everyday conversation, I avoid saying distasteful words. these words have a dynamic potency. they can cause mixed reactions and certainly convey great emotion. when used appropriately, I think they are fine. This is especially true in art: music, poetry, and prose. Such words, however, lose their potent capacity once they are hurled about in the way a high schooler would use the word "like."

A couple of examples that I have in mind:

The band fun's recent hit song "Some Nights" has what I would call a "well-placed" f-bomb.

Mumford and Son's song Little Lion Man also uses the word well.

Bands like blink-182, however, hurl it around so much that it looses its power to convey anything of substance.

I'm glad the awards live on in some form. I don't quite understand why they're still ADVANCED, but I'm glad they are.
