The voice of Mario in the SMB Super Show has passed away. :(  Good night, sweet prince.

I was just about to post this.

He also played Mario in the live action segments.

I guess he was on his last 1-up.

I remember him more for his contributions to wrestling, but he was pretty entertaining as Mario, which says a lot considering I despise SMBSS.

Good night, sweet prince.

My heart sank the moment I saw this thread's title. Despite me not being into wrestling, Captain Lou was one of my heroes simply for his inimitable contribution to the Mario universe and his general attitude toward life.

Good night, sweet Captain.

Ah, I saw this on the news ticker when I was eating lunch in Southside dining center just now. I was 98% certain I recognized that name.

Rest in peace, Captain Lou. We shall all "do the Mario" in your honor.

Jokes aside, I am considerably sad over his death. And today's my mother's birthday no less...

Who?
That's exactly what I was thinking (to be fair, I haven't actually seen the SMBSS, just the SMB3/World cartoons, so I didn't recognise who he was).

*sigh*

That's a little ironic, considering I wondered aloud just to my wife just last night if he was still alive.

He did a wonderful job playing Mario during the live-action segments of the SMBSS. How sad that he's gone now. :(

Oh geez. I guess this crappy year isn't over yet, huh? :(

I generally don't like dancing, but... *does the Mario in his honor*

This news greatly saddens me.  I really loved the show.  Rest in peace, Captain Lou.

The last sound he ever made (http://www.themushroomkingdom.net/sounds/wav/smb_mariodie.wav).

But seriously... man, another celebrity gone. Well, hope the Underwhere is treating you well, Cap'n.

I was (and still am) a huge fan of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!  Best wishes, Captain Lou and family.  You will always be my favorite Mario voice.

"Mario is dead."  It's strange how those words make me teary-eyed despite how many times I caused it on the TV.

I think it's neat how the voices in the Super Show were actually quite similar to Martinet's modern-day interpretations of Mario and Luigi's voices. I thought they were great, and in fact would totally not mind if Mario and Luigi magically started having those voices now, for no reason.

I've been wanting to get the box set of SMBSS episodes, and this seems like the perfect occasion...

Even the personalities have similarities.
Mario is the pasta loving hero always ready for action, and Luigi is the reluctant younger brother who finds the courage to save the day when he is needed.

Would this be a fine example of how some things never change?

Lou Albano lay on his deathbed with his friends and relatives beside him. In the sombre atmosphere that hung over the room like a Koopa Kid, none of Lou's companions could hold back the tears. Holding the hand of his beloved, he realises his time is drawing near. A smile slowly creeps across his weakened face, he wants to leave this younger generation with what they were fond of most- he's in no condition to wrestle, but he can still do the Mario. He begins to slowly swing his arms from side to side, and when he starts to struggle, his companions quickly come to aid him. In his last breaths, he realises what he has to do, quiet whisper emits from the mouth of this gentle giant, "Swing your arms... from side to side, come on... it's time to go..." Fearing the worst, his friends continue in unison, "Do the Mario!" Now something can be heard from Lou, quieter than a whisper, barely more than a breath, "Take one step...", a quick response, "And then again", and somehow, everyone is at ease. There's not a hint of sadness in the air, and the gathering of friends and relatives becomes a circle of joy, "Let's do the Mario, all together now!"

But in spite of this, a sharp silence falls upon the room, only to be lifted by Lou's response with a comforting, if quiet, "You got it!... It's the Mario!" He isn't aware of it, but everyone else can see it, his eyes are clouding over, he is growing short of breath, but the Captain battles on. "Do the... Mario! Swing... your... arms... from side... to side..."

Everyone can do nothing but listen to this great man's last words as they help him slowly, soothingly, swing his arms. "Come on...", his arms simply go limp, he has finally caught on that this is it. His final show. Captain Lou Albano's got to usher in a new generation. He gasps desperately to get his last words out, strangely appropriate to both him and his adoring audience, "It's... time... to go..."

In related news, Miyamoto didn't know that Captain Lou died (http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=100671 (http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=100671)).  I think he probably didn't know who he was, considering that he only worked on the American cartoon.

Did anyone watch the Do the Mario video just to see how to actually do the Mario? I watched it and I still don't know the moves. I understand the "swing your arms from side to side" bit, but not much else.

You forgot to take one step, and then again. (I think)

I watched some SMBSS episodes and he really makes a great Mario. I'm sorry that he's no longer with us, and he will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Caption Lou Albano.

Just because he's in coin heaven doesn't mean he gets to slack off. Nobody said stomping mushrooms was easy. If he works hard enough at getting those coins, maybe he'll get an extra life.
