Mario Chat / Re: The next "Mario" game
« on: June 11, 2001, 08:38:13 PM »
Whazup!? I agree with Bill about enough with remake game crap! One thing that would be cool, though, is a remake of Mario Bros. (the arcade game) as a minigame in the next Mario game for da cube. That'd be tight, and it'd be in full 3d.
So, my homies, go on down to my website if you wanna see and post other ideas for Mario games and other stuff. This ain't an ad for my site. Just go there if you want...heh heh.

Mario Chat / About Zelda Cube...
« on: August 24, 2001, 01:07:22 PM »
I know this is a Mario board but most of the ppl here are general Nintendo fans too, so I think this is ok:

Nintendo needs to cut the crap. The fact is, Zelda is not going to sell looking the way it does now. Even loyal Nintendo fans are rethinking getting the GCN. Nintendo's theory is 'If It's Original, It'll Sell', but sadly, thats not the case. The game could have the BEST gameplay anyone's ever witnessed. It could have the most ENTHRALLING story and the BEST characters, but it wouldn't sell. It needs to have good looking graphics, and at this point in time, the last thing we need is Link looking like he did in the old Zelda cartoon show. When even casual gamers see commercials that show off these 'amazing' graphics, their brains are instantly gonna tune it out.

In my mind, at least, once gamers get in to the game, they will most likely enjoy it. The problem is that no one's gonna buy the game to begin with. Watching commercials don't give off anything in terms of gameplay, thus, graphics are all they've got. It's true you don't need amazing graphics to make a great game, but you need them to sell one.

And about Nintendo relying so much on themselves as opposed to third parties...that's another bad move. Nintendo is a great game developer, but as I stated above, some of there games are simply not going to sell, Zelda being one of them. They could easily go the way they're going now, as long as they had some good third party games with nice graphics that could sell the system for them. But NOOOOoooo....They need to rely more on 'themselves'. Bad. Move.

Ok, enough coming down on Nintendo. I'm getting the gamecube, anyway, for several reasons. For one thing, Nintendo still makes great games with great graphics that I'll get, including games like Luigi's Mansion (I'm guessing that game will sell BIGTIME) that don't have a deliberate cartoony atmosphere that scares away most decenly-aged gamers. Other games that I plan on getting from Nintendo are Super Smash Bros. Melee and Mario Sunshine (that game's name NEEDS to be changed, or it will sell about as many copies as an issue of Playstation Mag. at the Spaceworld convention). Secondly, the Gamecube hardware is amazing and I'm sure many great games are going to come from it from many developers. And third, if you think Zelda looks crappy, like me, than AVOID IT! Don't get it until Nintendo shows some backbone and decides to change it to fit this decade.

Ok, if anyone else thinks Nintendo is digging their own grave with some of their new software, tell me here. Any counterpoints?... because boy, I would love to be proven wrong.

Mario Chat / I'm back!...and...err...something else!
« on: August 20, 2001, 12:08:21 AM »
Yes, that's right. I haven't posted ne thing on this board in a long time. Don't ask me why. Actually, it's because I've been using RPG Maker 2000 (rm2k) a lot recently and have got a nifty and extremely disgusting and uncencored game going. If anyone wants to play it, you need to download rm2k from www.rpgmaker2000.narud.ru, and then send me an email at Fun64dd@aol.com and I'll send what I've done so far. It's got many video game characters and possibly a Mario cameo comin up.

Oh yeah...I also wanted to know what you like better: the new GBA for it's portable-ness and 32-bit graphic goodness, or the upcoming GCN (should be NGC...hmm...GCN would stand for Game Cube Nintendo which just doesn't sound right) with it's amazing 128 bit graphic perfection, the fact that the system is smaller in size that the X-box by about half, and it's awesome un-portable, but cool games. I'd personally rather get the upcoming Gamecube than the GBA. What about ya'll?

Anyway, if you have the game, send me an email at Fun64dd@aol.com and we can arrange a time to play. Or you can send me a message with ICQ, my number is 124805647. Cya!

Mario Chat / The Mario Joke Board
« on: July 17, 2001, 05:00:02 PM »
Post your Mario jokes here! Once there have been enough jokes posted on this topic, I'll host a poll so you can vote on your favorite jokes! Let's see who's the funniest guy or gal on the board! Here's my joke:

Ok, I've got a joke... and man, it sucks: One day Mario is laying in bed, trying to go to sleep, when he hears a voice in his head that says "Sell your house, take all your money, and go to vegas,". Mario ignores the voice and finally manages to go to sleep.

In the morning, Mario decides to take a walk to the princess' castle. As he's walking, he hears the voice again, "Sell your house, take all your money, and go to Las Vegas,". Still, Mario ignores it.

Then, he's muchin' on a 'quick' lunch of ravioli, 1-up Mushroom soup, and birdo egg with the princess, when he hears the voice yet again. "Sell your house, take all your money, and go to Vegas!!!". Finally, Mario gives in. He stuffs his face with the last of the food, and runs out of the castle. The princess is confused.

Mario sells his house and takes all his money. He rides a blue yoshi all the way to vegas. When he's there, he hear's the voice again. It says: "Go to Caesar's Palace,". Mario walks over to Caesar's Palace. Then the voice says, "Go to the roulette table to your right." Mario does. The voice then says, "Put all your money on red 23." Mario does, and spins the wheel. It comes up black 17. The voice then says "crap!".

Now you post yours!

I never knew how much you could miss by not checking the board for a few weeks. I've got some catchin up to do now, I guess.

Yup, I never said anything, but I'd been vacationing from from the Bboard for a while...and man, I wish I hadn't.

I missed great moments like $$Wario$$ calling me an idiot, MarioNut#1's presidency(huh?), Princess_Peach_Toadstool's Mario Poll, and a lot more I havn't looked at yet.

Well, anyway...if you noticed I was gone, I'm back now, so yeah.

Mario Chat / "Mario Sentence Association"
« on: June 25, 2001, 05:18:57 PM »
Ok, the Mario Word Association is getting kinda old. It's at 520 posts as of now (I posted the 500th one! VICTORY IS MINE!), so I decided to think up something new.

Here's how it goes: I'll right a word, and then the next person writes a word that could follow that one in a sentence. So for example, if I wrote the word "One", the next person could write "day" and the next person might say "Mario", until finally a sentence was formed like "One day Mario stuffed his face with lasagna". Let's just see how this works out.

The only rules are that you have to post a word with a sentence in mind. If someone wrote "I" and the next person wrote "hippopatumus", it wouldn't make sense. There's no sentence that could start with "I hippopatumus". Also, you can put a mark after the word, like a period if it's the end of the sentence, or a comma or whatever. We might even be able to write a whole story, one word at a time! Also, you can only write one word, and try to refrain from putting your signature.

Alright, let's get it started! The first word is:

It

Mario Chat / Ever Had An Idea For The Perfect Mario Game?
« on: June 20, 2001, 05:26:32 PM »
I just got my new site up and running and I think many of ya'll might find it interesting. It's an original website where you can send in ideas for games that you think your favorite developer (Nintendo, in all of you're cases) should make. Then, I post all of the ideas up on my site and you can read them, along with my review for each one.

Anyway, all of you people reading this could send in your ideas for the PERFECT MARIO GAME. Or, if Mario ain't your thing (I don't know why'd you'd be here, but) you can send in any other kind of game idea, for any other developer to make.

If I get enough, I might even send all of the good ideas to their respective company. But anyway, you can get to my site either by following the link on my profile (just click the little icon above this message), or copy and paste the url:

www.vgameideas.cjb.net

Also, tell me what ya think of the page!

Forum Games / Luigi's Quest
« on: June 12, 2001, 10:12:56 PM »
*Okay, the other RPGish things on this Board are kinda screwed up, so lets try to make one that works this time. What's happening, is I write part of a story, then you continue it, and someone else continues it from the last person, and on and on. Don't make your part too long or confusing! I just thought I'd clear this up. Also, before posting your own part of the story, read all of the parts before yours...please pplz! Okay, enough with crap, let's start the game!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A long time ago, shortly before the events of SM64, the Mushroom Kingdom was in peace. Mario and Luigi were still living in the same house, and Peach lived peacefully in her new castle.
Then, one day, Mario recieved a letter from the Princess, saying that she had baked a cake for him, and also had another pleasant suprise waiting for him.
Mario: Mama mia! (turning to Luigi) I need to leave on some *snicker* important umm... bussiness matters. Yes, that's right. I need to go and talk to the Chancellor about the Mushroom Kingdoms...err...current mushroom shortage. Yeah.
Luigi: Mushroom shortage? There's tons of Mushrooms!
Luigi picks up a mushroom from the table they're sitting at and stuffs it in his mouth, growing huge.
Mario: No...err...not excactly. In Dinosaur Land, they're almost completely out of em'. Yeah.
Luigi: Ok...whatever bro.
Mario leaves the house, and, using the warp pipe outside, teleports to Princess Peaches' castle. Luigi's still inside, dumbfounded.
Luigi(to himself): I never thought they HAD any mushrooms in Dinosaur Land. Oh well.
Several hours later, Luigi is taking a nap when Parakarry the delivery troopa wakes him up.
Parakarry: I've got an important letter for you, Mr...err...Mario. You are Mario, right?
Luigi: Umm...
Luigi thinks back to all the times Mario has gotten the spotlight.
Luigi: Yeah, that's me!
Parakarry: Hmm..I always thought Mario had a red hat. Oh well.
And so Luigi takes the letter, and reads it...
Mario Chat / Who Will Win the Console Wars...
« on: June 12, 2001, 08:54:31 PM »
Who do you think's gonna win the console wars?
-Nintendo Gamecube? They've got some great 2nd and 3rd party game developers down there helpin' em' out...but will Nintendo's recent semi-lack of popularity cause their latest system to get burned?
-Playstation 2? Sony's got Popularity on their side, sitting right next to Mr. Cheap Commercials, and Prof. Screwy Marketing...but is that enough to win?
-Microsoft XBox? Sure, MS is owned by the richest guy on earth, but will the gaming be just as good on this console as on others?
We just won't can't know for sure. What do YOU think?
Mario Chat / Ten Pet Peeves About Mario...
« on: June 11, 2001, 09:04:51 PM »
Don't get me wrong. I enjoy ALL OF THE MARIO GAMES I've ever played (with the exception of Mario Is Missing and Mario's Time Machine). But there's just a couple things that I just don't get about the games:
1) Reoccuring locations. Why does the Mushroom Kingdom always look different in every game? Why is Peach's castle never the same? Does Bowser move to a different castle every game!? How many times has Mario moved in his life?
2) Reoccuring characters. There aren't any! With the exception of Bowser, and Peach, certain characters don't appear in some games, and it's weird! Why does Toad sometimes help you, and sometimes not exsist in the game, with the exception of the 'Mushroom People' which are all identical clones of toad with different color heads.
3) Luigi. He's Mario's only brother. Why does he sometimes live with Mario, and sometimes not even have anything to do with Mario's adventures?
4) Bowser's size. In Mario RPG, he was just about the same height as Mario, but a lot wider. Same with in most of the Mario games before SM64 like Super Mario Bros. 1 and 2, and Mario Kart. Now, all of the sudden, HE'S HUGE!!! He's easily 5 TIMES as big as Mario! Then, in Mario Kart64, he was small again! Why?
5) Peach (formerly known as Princess Toadstool, now known as Princess PEACH Toadstool). She and Mario obviously have a thing...otherwise Mario wouldn't save her so many daaaa...ng times! Why don't they get married? What happened to Pauline and Daisy? Why didn't Mario marry them? (but then again, we're talking about Mario...he's not excactly charming, witty, buff, or anywhere near attractive)
6) Bowser's castle. Why doesn't he occasionally make it IMPOSSIBLE for Mario to enter. Instead of setting up tons of traps inside, why not LOCK the door and GET RID of the key!?
7) Yoshi. Is it the name of a creature, or the name of a race of creatures? Same with Toad. Are all of the Mushroom People toads, or is that the name of just one.
8) Paper Mario. I didn't think I'd say something about a particular game in this list, but I'd like to know something...why'd they make a game where all the characters are paper? It's a great game...but I mean it would have been better if the characters weren't made out of paper.
9) Donkey Kong. Originally he was Mario's enemy. Now he has nothing to do with him, frolicking in adventures of his own! Also, is DK Junior a bad guy or a good guy?
10) The Mushroom Kingdom. Is this a kingdom in a distant planet, far off in another galaxy? Is it in another dimension? Is it hidden on a magical island on earth? Why  Mario and Peach the only humans there? I want to know!!!
That concludes my list. Anything to add?
