I have been watching the game and I don't see it so far. Everytime I have seen either of them in the videos, they were alone. I don't think we will have split screen Coop. I wish Miyamoto would go back to the day and do a 2 player mode with 1st player as Mario and 2nd player as Luigi. In fact we could expand it to four with Yoshi, Toad, or DK.
-
No.
-
Other people can pick up and help you play though. I think this goes along with Nintendo's approach to casual play and might get people like my wife to play Mario Galaxy that would have been otherwise turned off from the 3D game play.
See the interview at
http://uk.wii.com/software/interviews/mario_galaxy/vol4/index.html
And read some comments by people who have actually played it at

Well how else would they do it? Mario co-op with Mario? No. It has to be Luigi. If they have a four player mode, it'd probably be the same characters as Mario 64 DS.
-
They cannot have a four player mode. Otherwise, why haven't Japanese gamers posted 4P footage?

It's Mario co-op with a star pointer, no actual second character.

Oh man.... I really hope not...
-
Except that's how it is.

*Tries to suppress a "The game will be great, stop complaining and just play it when it comes out, THEN you may complain about it" rant*
-
What's with this "I hope not" nonsense? I AM PLAYING THE GAME ON MY WII RIGHT NOW.
-
You...illegally downloaded the demo? Or are you Japanese?
-
Pirates! Thousands of them!
Or was that ninjas...

Review copy.
-
kool. Hey,MEGAߥTE, does Deezer have a review copy? and where did you get it?
-
(dang)!!!!!!!! WHY NINTENDO???????? WHY????????? IT COULD HAVE BEEN PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm really not too keen on the idea of Mario and someone who points. Usually when I think of Mario Bros. 2 player games, I think of Mario and Luigi, not Mario and invisible pointer person.
-

Old days? Shiggy said himself he implemented the mode so there wouldn't be the whole issue of the second player feeling like they were just playing to amuse the first player (they have that whole "Iwata Asks" series on the official Wii site, sand there's a Miyamoto interview about Mario Galaxy there).
Oh, and when I saw "Luigi and Mario coop", I thought there was some chicken-related mode I hadn't been let in on...
-
Aw c'mon. A two-player game is no good for the massive parties you undoubtedly have every weekend anyway. Just wait for Brawl.
-
2P co-op would have definitely made it less perfect. Because split screen stinks, kids. And so does a game where one person drags the other person through the screen. (Lego Star Wars escapes stinking because of its complete awesomeness on all other levels.)
-
With the technology they have now, they could have Mario and Luigi both in the game at the same time with a split screen as you guys do or do a force follow (where they cannot leave the screen like on Mario Party for example).
-
Tethered co-op would be interesting, especially with the gravity effects.
Wait, didn't Sonic try to do that?
-
They did in Shadow the Hedgehog as a little secret. If there is a 2nd controller and Shadow has an assistant CPU like Sonic, P2 can use the 2nd controller to control the assistant.
Still, I am not very excited about co-op. I mean, you got through SM64 and Sunshine without an extra cursor thing, right? The game is based 99% on Single Player, and the experience probably does not change much with an additional cursor.
-
Your right. I mean, its kind of fun playing 2P mode, but it gets a little annoying. Plus, another fun thing, you can make Mario stop by using the 2P icon.
-
You can smack him, though, I think...
-
Actually, I was talking about the canceled Sonic Crackers.
-
What if is was something like Kirby, where the screen follows the 1st player, and the 2nd player has to keep up? Or what if they made it like Melee, where it fits all the players on screen? No, 2 player co-op would have been T3H B0MB.
-
These crappy ideas are boring me to tears. I actually like the star pointer idea.
Does Luigi ALWAYS have to be player 2 for you guys? Really. We're past that now.
-
Hey, MEGABYTE, you didn't answer my question. Does Deezer have a copy and where did you get the copy.
-

Whaa...?
-
Sonic eating Ritz?
-
I thought Sonic Crackers eventually became Knuckles Chaotix. Probably wrong though.

Like I said, that type of gameplay is really terrible. Lego Star Wars uses it, and it's terrible. Lego Star Wars is just excellent in all other areas.
-
Luigi was the 2nd player in Super Mario Brothers, Super Mario Brothers 3, and Super Mario World. I wish Nintendo would not have dropped him out in 64.
-
Don't get me wrong, I haven't played Galaxy yet (I won it off ebay and the person just told me now that they won't be shipping it until this Monday when I won it last Wednesday... ugh. If I don't get it this weekend won't be able to play it until December 13th), however I think Galaxy is going to be one of the best Mario Games ever. However, I wish I could have my sister or friends tag along as Luigi. I remember as a kid playing SMB3 with my cousin, friends, and sister and working together to get to World 8 and take on Bowser. Man was that game a classic.

"going to be"
-
He can't properly judge it until he's played it, can he?
-
I'm sorry, but I'm gonna have to disagree strongly. (Chupperson)
How can you disagree with a split screen mode where the other player could jump in at any time? wtd is wrong with that? How can you not think that that'd be.....kickin'....
*Shyguy92 is at a loss of words
-
It might be better now if you have a HD signal coming from your system and a HDTV (Wii does not have HD of course) and can actually see what the heck is going on. For pretty much all the games I've played that use split screen 2P, the resolution and screen area are nowhere near high enough to give a pleasing experience. Besides that, what would you do? Race to the star, for every star in the game? I don't see how it would be used well.
-
Actually Galaxy is leaning towards more a linear level and not the search for stars (although you still get stars). In the next game they could wipe out the whole get the star mentality and work towards a get to the end of the level mentality that was in the originals. (Note: I am not advocating changing Galaxy, I just think there should be a coop Mario game).
In fact what is with making only one Mario game per system anyways. I would love to see a second Wii Mario game.
-
When was there ever a co-op Mario game aside from Mario Bros.?
-
Ah, so it's the visuality that your worried about. But it's not that bad. I mean, there are some great games that have alot of split screen in them.
Imagine the best single player game you can, and then picture your friend playing at the same time, helping you, or controlling the enemies(million dollar idea).
I'm thinking mostly of Zelda here(imagine the WW fighting system multiplayer), but Mario would be pretty cool too.
-
A split screen wouldn't be necessary. Just have them both in the same screen. I think having a system somewhat like the old TMNT games might work well; where both characters are in the same screen, and the screen doesn't scroll until both players go in the same direction.
-
That works in 2D, not so much in 3D.
-
There are 3D games like that. Most recently, Spiderman: Friend or Foe. Though that doesn't necessarily mean that it translates well to platforming games. Of course, platforming in general doesn't work as well in 3D as 2D.
-

Have now, got all 3 stars in first Galaxy for total of 4 stars. The bosses are fairly easy so far. Controls are very easy for the game, it makes it very enjoyable unlike Mario and Sonic at the Olympics which has been kind of tough so far.
-

Which blew.
-
luigi will find stars in the game and get lost there then mario has 2 go find him so luigi can give him the star and sometimes a hidden star (green star). trust me im reeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaly far in the game and it gets anoying sometimes. scratch that all the time
-
Annoying? You only do it, like, three times (I expected a lot more, considering that after that, Luigi doesn't really do anything else--when you're playing as Mario, that is).
-
SMB, SM3, and SMW were all coop as well. You took turns working together to get far in the game. However, I would like more of a Sonic the Hedgehog 2 approach now where the 2nd player has to follow the first on the screen or do split screen. Smash Bros. Brawl Coop mode should be interesting.
-
Co-op is by definition multiple players playing at the same time working towards the same goal. 2P taking turns is not co-op.
