Looks like this topic should be re-named "Get The Star From KinopioToad."

So that's why it took so long for my message to post. daFunkster made a post at the same time :-)

As long as we're talking about our website addresses, try visiting my site:

http://penguinwizard.tripod.com/default.htm

it doesn't have a strong central theme right now, but it does have a Mario Cartoons section including pictures and sounds from the Mario Cartoons that you won't find anywhere else. I ripped the pictures from the videos over at DSMS (so if you use them, you better give Danny credit), and I ripped the sounds by using a program called totalRecorder.

I didn't sample the sounds from Super Koopa and Mama Luigi correctly the first time around, so I'll resample them later. There's also sounds from A Little Learning and Dadzilla, as well as a megaload of pictures and sounds from Born to Ride.

Right now there's over 50 pictures and 23 sounds.

And there's even more with my Animation Goof page that's also linked to that Mario Cartoon section.

If you visit, be sure to sign my guestbook so I'll know that I'm not updating the website equivalent of a ghost town.

It's probably too easy to make animation.

In the case of using Nesticle, note how you can save screenshots. Well, just take a screenshot for every frame (or image) you want in the animated picture. Then by using a picture editor, you can get the frames you want and make them into an animation.

Making an animation can be tough if you don't have the right tools. The most famous animation type is gif. You just put all the frames you want into it, then it will automatically run the animation for an infinite amount of times when you put it on your website and access it.

Finding a program that allows you to make gifs is the only problem. I can assure you that there are some free programs that you can use to make your own gifs. There's even a gif editor over at Tripod's Animated Gif Gallery that you can use to cheat and make your own gif.

But if you're serious about animation, you better find a gif program. You can also make a video file instead. There's a program called IconForge that can make videos, as well as icons, cursors, and animated icons and cursors. However, while it can make gifs, that option is reserved for the registered version.

Videos allow even more colors than gifs, but they take up a heck of a lot more space doing so. So it's not recommended if the only animations you plan to use come from NES or SNES games. Videos can also run when you put them up on a webpage, and you have control over how many times it plays.

Mario Chat / Re: Super Mario World VS Yoshi's Island
« on: April 30, 2001, 04:07:37 PM »

I like Yoshi's Island a lot better. And there's just some charm to it that makes you want to play it all over again.

But the only point where I prefer Super Mario World over Yoshi's Island is that YI has Baby Mario in it. And Baby Mario is the most annoying character in the world in my opinion (tied with Navi).

I also prefer Yoshi's Island because Yoshi is the star.

btw, Yoshi's Story isn't all that good. Actually, the graphics are awesome, and some other stuff like gameplay is really good. However, the game blows because of two things: too easy, and the most annoying game in the world.

If you don't know what's annoying about it, read the review from IGN or somewhere. You'll see just how horrible the game is because of how it's oriented. That's all it took to take it from what would be a stellar game into one of the worst games ever.

Mario Chat / Re: The Yoshi Egg SMB64

I knew I wasn't dreaming when I thought I saw something on the top of the lava waterfall inside the volcano in Lethal Lava Land. So after I got up to the part in the volcano where I push that Bully off the narrow ledge, I decided to leap into the lava waterfall. Then I kept getting Mario's behind on fire so he'd keep jumping up the waterfall. And when I got to the top, there it was: The Red Yoshi egg! It soon hatched and out came a Red Yoshi. He used his fiery breath to scorch Mario, then Luigi came out from the sky, landed on Red Yoshi, then the Yoshi grew wings and pushed Mario off the ledge. Then, while Mario was busy constantly falling into the lava, Luigi and Yoshi flew away, out of the volcano, and back out of the painting.
No, it really happened. I saw it with my own two eyes.

Ok, enough of the joke. There is no Red Yoshi egg, but it's fun to include fake ways of getting to it.

I think there's a thing for the parody called Super Pretendo because that was used for the title of that one Muppet Babies episode as well as that little console in that one Doug episode. In the Doug episode, it was some sort of space game. I forget what it was called. Something like Spacemunks. Doug spent his whole weekend trying to beat it, hehe.

As for the Muppet Babies episode, they had several references to Nintendo. For one, we get to see Piggy in a shot as well as a very pixelated Mario. And Piggy somehow gets Mario to jump out of her way.

Donkey Kong was replaced by some dragon guy.

Other references include Track & Field (for Skeeter and Scooter), Frogger (with Kermit), Stacks (Fozzy, i don't know how you'd play it though), that one game with the plane vehicle thingies, Legend of Zelda, which is parodied by being called the Legend of Mafelda, and some others.

So many references to Nintendo. Maybe TV has run out of ideas!

Mario Chat / Re: What Did really happen between Square and Nintendo?
« on: April 21, 2001, 07:49:34 PM »
I can explain it, sort of.

Squaresoft left Nintendo when the Playstation (or maybe it was Dreamcast) came out because they would rather make RPGs on a system that could hold more memory. I think something about Sony being a more potential seller had a part in it as well.

Of course, if Squaresoft were to have stuck with the Nintendo 64, then that would have been awesome. But we've seen the limits of the machine. Squaresoft wanted to go with a system that could hold more memory, to make a more amazing game. So they made several Final Fantasies (I'm getting tired of it going up to ten, though) on a different console.

With GameCube and Game Boy Advance around the corner, it sounds like Squaresoft wants to go back to Nintendo. But Mr. Yamawhoever said no. I don't know why he said this (I protest against that decision), but maybe because it's unacceptable to bring back a company that has betrayed you, maybe fearing that it could happen again in the future.

I bet some of our other fellow Fungi Forum people will help explain this better.

I'm in North America, and if you listen, you will clearly hear him say "Hey!" Ok, so maybe it is a baby cry. But it sounds too much like "Hey!" to be so. Maybe he's saying "Wah!" I don't know, but whatever it is, it's annoying. It's good that Baby Mario didn't pop up in Yoshi's Story, but Yoshi's constant humming to keep himself "happy" was enough to make it even worse than Baby Mario.

If all I had to do was stay happy to get back some lame tree, I wouldn't be humming some tune the entire way. I wouldn't hum as I do everything either. I'd just walk on through, smack the enemies out of my way, then beat Baby Bowser, the end, chapter over.

btw, in a little preview Nintendo Power once had for the original Yoshi's Island, they taunted Baby Bowser by saying something along the lines of "does Bowsie want his blanket?" In my opinion, Bowsie is a better name than Baby Bowser. It would also irritate him more if we called him that.

Yes, Mystery Science Theater 3000 makes a lot of references to different things.

If anyone has any video clips or sounds of these Mario references in action, please tell me where I can find them!

btw, I remember seeing Prince of Space on that show once. I don't remember the Mario reference, but if it's the same episode I'm thinking of, then I remember the witty comment (that isn't a reference to anything, but it's still funny) where this dead guy was on a screen and Joel, or Crow, said "He died with a booger on his forehead."

That cracked me up.

there's also other terms like ttyl (talk to you later), brb (be right back), rotfl (rolling on the floor laughing), bl (belly laugh), and wysiwyg (what you see is what you get).

The one thing that puzzles me about Yoshi's Island is why they decided to make Mario go "Hey!" whenever he's in a bubble. That's not even the sound of a baby crying. It's someone who's saying "Hey! Catch me now! I don't have all day! I'll keep yelling until you catch me!" Come to think of it, there have been many characters that have said Hey! like Navi. Tough to say which of the two is more annoying :-)

Iggy Koopa, I find it hard to believe that Fara is in the Japanese Star Fox 2. I just don't think what you're saying is true. If perhaps you got some proof, then I might believe you. Getting proof will be like getting news of new GameCube games, though.

I think when it comes to some of my other favorite Koopalings, Morton Jr. and Roy come to mind. Don't ask me why these two are also near the top of my list. As for Iggy (Hop in the cartoons), well, that's different. I did like how Hip and Hop acted near the beginning of the episode A Little Learning. If only they told Koopa of a loophole in his plan (that since lying is an excellent trait, Hip and Hop would go to school anyway), then that might make Koopa rethink his approach!
