Title: Mariokémon
Post by: Weegee on July 09, 2012, 08:09:47 PM
Making this thread made me feel all 'spergy.

No doubt there's already a thread for this somewhere, but I couldn't find it. At any rate, this topic is for making Mario-series creatures into Pokemon. This post is far from being finished, but I'll add to it now and then. Feel free to debate about the ethics of captuing and battling with creatures who can speak English and function in a human-like society.

Yoshi - Dragon (inb4 BUT HE'S A DINOSAUR)
Moves: Tackle, Headbutt, Lick, Bug Bite, Stomp, Stockpile, Swallow, Spit Up, Barrage, Egg Bomb, Softboiled
Abilities:
Notes: Yoshi can gain a secondary type based on the colour of Shell he's given. Green = Normal, Red = Fire, Blue = Flying, and Yellow = Ground. Upon being given a Shell, Yoshi will try to learn a new attack corresponding to his new type: Skull Bash (or maybe some new invented move), Flamethrower, Sky Attack, or Earthquake. Much like changing Rotom's forme in the Pokemon games, removing or swapping the Shell will remove Yoshi's secondary type and corresponding attack.

Baby Yoshi - Dragon
Moves: Same as above for the most part
Abilities:
Notes: Hatched from eggs. Can initially only be found in green, but later in other colours which, once hatched and evolved, permanently remain that colour/type. For instance, a Red Egg will hatch into a Red Baby Yoshi, which evolves into a Fire/Dragon Yoshi.

Goomba - Normal
Moves: Tackle, Growl, Bite, Defense Curl, Headbutt, Crunch, Scary Face, Take Down, Rollout, Double-Edge
Abilities: Intimidate, Rough Skin (in reference to Mario physics)
Notes: The Ratatta/Sentret/Zigzagoon/Bidoof/Patrat of the bunch. Evolves into the Normal-Flying/type Paragoomba.

Koopa Troopa - Normal
Moves: Tackle, Withdraw, Peck, Protect, Shell Smash, Razor Shell
Abilities:
Notes: Evolves into Paratroopa at a certain level. Comes in green, red, blue and yellow varities, but are all statistically identical. Can sometimes be holding an item called a Shell, which changes Yoshi's type when held based on its colour.

Paratroopa - Normal/Flying
Moves: Sky Drop, Brave Bird, Bounce
Abilities:
Notes:

Magikoopa - Normal(?)/Psychic
Moves: Teleport, Hex, Curse, Disable, Psywave, Hypnosis, Mystical Fire, Tri-Attack, Magic Room, Trick Room
Abilities:
Notes:

Dry Bones - Normal/Ghost
Moves: Bonemerang, Bone Rush, Bone Club, Curse,
Abilities: Sturdy
Notes:

Boo - Ghost
Moves: Lick, Astonish, Curse, Pursuit, Night Shade, Shadow Sneak, Scary Face, Hypnosis, Mean Look, Protect, Shadow Ball, Phantom Force
Abilities: Levitate, maybe some new ability that grants immunity to sight-based moves like Leer and Glare
Notes:

Lakitu - Normal/Flying
Moves:
Abilities:
Notes: Appear in hordes of Spinies

Spiny - Normal
Moves: Spiky Shield
Abilities: Iron Barbs
Notes:

Notes: I can't be arsed to make separate entries for Fire Bros, Boomerang Bros, Ice Bros, Sledge Bros, Sumo Bros, Amazing Flyin' Hammer Bros, etc.

Buzzy Beetle - Bug(?)/Steel
Moves:
Abilities: "Fireproof" - Complete immunity to Fire damage
Notes: I know they aren't actually beetles, but I needed more Bug-types.

Parabuzzy - Bug/Flying

Notes:

Pianha Plant - Grass

Abilities: Static
Notes:

Shy Guy - Dark/Fairy
Moves: Covet, Play Nice, Knock Off, Charm, Foul Play, Teeter Dance, Play Rough
Abilities: Run Away
Notes:

Monty Mole - Ground
Moves: Scratch, Sand-Attack, Dig
Abilities:
Notes: Evolves into Mega Mole.

Wiggler - Bug
Moves: Tackle, Struggle Bug, Rage, Infestation, Thrash, Petal Blizzard, Earthquake
Abilities: Anger Issues - Raises Attack each time it's hit by a physical move
Notes:

Podoboo - Fire/Ghost(?)
Moves: Ember, Astonish, Will-o-Wisp, Lava Plume, Spite,
Abilities: Flame Body, Flash Fire
Notes: It's hard to say whether they're living entities, or just blobs of lava which happen to have eyes like almost everything else in the Mario universe. If you consider them analogous to PM's Lava Bubbles, they're more likely the former.

Lil' Sparky - Electric
Moves: Thundershock, Ember, Flash, Will-o-Wisp, Thunder Wave, Spark, Charge, Discharge, Electric Terrain, Zap Cannon
Abilities: Static
Notes: Evolves into Hothead (Electric/Fire)

Normal Goombas should be ground type, perhaps.

Also

this topic is for making Mario-series enemies into Pokemon.

-Lava Lotus should be Fire/Water. Volcano Lotus should be Fire/Grass.

-I don't know if Shy Guy should be Dark. Ghost or even Normal would be more appropriate.

-I think it would make more sense for both Dino Rhino and Mini Rhino to be Ground/Fire and just have Mini Rhino evolve into Dino Rhino.

-Blooper should just be Water. They've never demonstrated any poisonous capabilities. However, they can fly if they're out of water, so maybe Water/Flying would be more appropriate.

-Piranha Plants have never been poisonous either. Having a Grass/Poison-type Putrid Piranha for an alternate evolution could work.

-While making Buzzy Beetle a Bug-type is amusing, he's not a bug. He's a turtle. If anything Steel would be more appropriate due to his fireproof shell.

-I assume Yoshi would evolve from Little/Baby Yoshi.

I took those suggestions into consideration. I think Shy Guys work well as Dark-types, though, given their sneaky, devious nature.

My rationale for making Bloopers Poison-type was their ink-spewing ability in some PM and MK titles, but making them pure Water makes more sense. Same goes for Piranha Plants.

Seeing as Dino Rhinos irreversibly change into Dino Torches (AKA Mini Rhinos) after being jumped on, I suppose an evolution is more fitting.
