Mario Chat / Re: shine forum

Wow, you folks who are within a few Shines of completion, how long have you been playing? I've had the game, oh, maybe a week now, and I'm up to 58 Shines. Goodness, this game has moments of wit like a watered-down SMRPG. Like Il Piantissimo calling Mario a "pokey little flab-biscuit", and the hotel residents getting all creeped out at Mario sneaking into their rooms. Sometimes I stop and laugh for a few minutes before I carry on. ^_^

I'm up to 36 Shines, I just beat that scary eel with terrible oral hygiene today. I mean, whoever came up with that boss needs some serious help. And I unlocked Yoshi, he sounds kinda ...pitiful, especially when drowning.

Mario Chat / Re: MARIO CCG (or TCG... whatever you want to call it)
« on: September 01, 2002, 09:29:30 PM »
Don't dis Pokémon CCG, the use of Pokémon Powers (effects that start when the Pokémon is put into play) can make for some pretty tricky strategies. Nothing like Magic, I'm sure, but still enough to baffle a 7-year-old. The only problem with a Mario CCG would be the balance of power for the main characters. Surely everyone would want Mario, Bowser and the like in their deck, so they couldn't be too pitiful or too all-powerful.

I've had the game for about 3 days, and I've got 20 Shines. Yes, I've been exchanging my blue coins. Yes, I'm aware that I suck. Anybody else think FLUDD's cute? ^_^

Mario Chat / Re: Sonic and Mario should team up!
« on: August 29, 2002, 09:16:57 PM »
.....Back to the original topic and away from the spam, I don't think Mario and Sonic would mix very well together. Not only because their worlds are so different, but because they're both such headlining charaters. If a Mario/Sonic game leaned more towards one character than the other, Nintendo would need massive amounts of aspirin to counteract their headache caused by the whining of the slighted characer's fans.

Video Game Chat / Re: Poll: If you were stranded...

Oooh, toughie.

1. Mario RPG (SNES)
2. Yoshi's Island (SNES)
3. SSBM (GCN)
4. Pikmin (GCN)
5. Pokémon Crystal (GB) I was really tempted to give Mario Sunshine this spot, despite the fact that I haven't played it. Hehehe.

And I'd miss Kirby Super Star(SNES) and think fondly of it. Not to mention the stuff I played that seemed fun and that I really should have put more effort into solving my own cowardly self instead of using walkthrus (namely Ocarina of Time). I'll just wander off and hide from the Zelda fans who probably want to have me dragged out into the street and shot right now...*wanders off whistling*

Mario Chat / Re: Luigi's Mansion
« on: August 28, 2002, 08:47:21 PM »
I've never played either of Luigi's games for more than a few minutes. Mario Is Missing scared the living...err...poo out of me, and I didn't even stick around long enough to figure out what I was supposed to do. I rented Luigi's Mansion, but the game was glitchy and kept freezing when that first ghost drops the key, so I never got past there. I dunno, LM is great graphics-wise, but poor Luigi was made out to be an absolute pants-wetting wimp. Not exactly a flattering thing to base a game on. And I thought it was hilarious how he kept calling out for Mario. I played LM with a friend, and for the next week we'd both chirp "Mario? Maaaariooooo...?" at random. ^_^

General Chat / Re: Are there any 17 year old girls here?
« on: August 28, 2002, 08:38:41 PM »
Hehe, good job Wanwan, one of my chickie friends always plays with Zelda/Sheik and I rub it in her face when I beat her with Bowser. Which doesn't happen that often, actually...^_^;;

But I just found out recently that some guys disrespect gamer gals. I was surprised, the only odd reaction I've gotten as a gamer is, "OMG, you play video games AND you're a girl! Can I worship you? Please?" OK, so I exaggerate, but you get my point. Like I say, some girls are given the impression that video games are a male passtime, or that video games are just plain loser fodder, and so they don't even think about them. Come to think of it, I was kind of raised on video games too, I had a lot of male friends growing up and my Barbies went untouched...But I'm glad I turned out to like video games. One time a random cute guy started up a conversation about video games because he saw the SSBM desktop on my laptop. I'll always cherish that memory. :D

And you know, Pokémon isn't really as cutesy as some people think it is. The monsters may be sickeningly cute as a whole, but they're still designed to beat the snot out of each other. :p All the Pokémon fans I know IRL are male. It's funny because I'll sometimes explain the game to a curious peer or teacher. So-called popular girls sometimes even borrow my Gameboy in class to try the game!

I really wanted to go to that, I have an old Lillymon costume that could probably have been doctored up into a half-decent Peachie getup. But California is a major trip for a Canadian like myself, and I wasn't able to go. What happened to all that pasta, did a giant food fight break out or anything fun like that?

Mario Chat / Re: SMRPG Party

I agree with the sentiment that there is no weakest member. The point of RPG-style fighting is that your team members work together and support each other's weaknesses. Mallow's got pretty bad attack power, but his magic is strong and he can heal. Geno's defenses may be bad, but that's why there's healers, and his attack and magic make up for it. Anybody who calls Toadstool weak needs a good slap upside the head (although she's pretty weak when you first get her), and her healing abilities are almost too good. Actually, if I had to choose a weak member, I'd say Mario. He's well-rounded enough to have almost no real strengths, he's lucky to have such cool friends, I guess.

I think video games are sort of a male-oriented thing anyways. It's socially acceptable for guys to lock themselves in the basement and play video games for days on end. But I guess a lot of girls, especially those in their later teens like myself, think it's kind of immature. Well they just suck! Fortunately, I hang around with gals of somewhat better taste who don't mind going a few rounds in SSBM, even if they have a penchant for Pikachu and his cute little hats.

General Chat / Re: what grade are you in?

Oooh, 9th Grade, that year can be fun if you know how to annoy your superiors. Take my advice, older kids will expect you to submit. Don't. When I was in Grade 9, I stole older people's cafeteria lunchtable seats and just grinned happily when they threw hissy fits at me, it was soooo funny!

Back to the point of this topic, I'll be starting Grade 12 in about a week and a half.

I'm an atheist, I'm too lazy and cynical to believe in any heavenly figures. I didn't even fully believe in Santa Claus when I was a kid, and I was a pretty gullible kid. At the tender age of 8, I thought it was weird that some guy I had never met would wiggle his fat butt down the chimmny just to give me stuff. Ah, good times.

*waves* I'm 17 and of the female persuasion. It's hard to find gal gamers, especially those my age. One guy at another forum actually E-mailed me to mention his respect for my being a video game fan and a girl.

Yeah, like I say, they don't play video games much and haven't learned to love the brothers like we have. But even I think the squeakiness could be toned down a little. Seriously, when was the last time you heard a middle-aged guy who sounded like that?
