This is a You Tube link to a version in Spanish, so I'm sure the game was translated.  Are there language options in the PAL version?

Game Help / Re: The Super Jumps in SMRPG

Er.. Kinda. Only if you have no other controller options. The game has a run button and a jump button, and since the controller scheme is similar to that of SMW, I am going to assume it would be extremely awkward to play.
I meant for this specific challenge (doing the Super Jumps).  I've been playing it with the Classic Controller, but Toad said not to use the Classic Controller for this challenge.  I'll try both controllers when I have a chance, but has anyone noticed a difference in timing?  Does one controller give you an advantage?

Don't use the classic controller. I've found the buttons can have up to a full second delay between when I press them and when the character reacts (even with a fully charged Wiimote).
So do you recommend the GameCube controller?

Game Help / The Super Jumps in SMRPG
« on: September 04, 2008, 06:10:59 PM »
Even though I played SMRPG a lot on my SNES, I somehow never knew about the 100 Super Jumps challenge (I guess I just assumed the dog was kidding).  I did complete the 30 Super Jumps in my SNES cartridge, but now on the Virtual Console I don't know how the heck I even reached 30 back in the day.  Now, I seem to always mess up on number 13.  Any pointers or advice?

Mario Chat / Where Have All the Snakers Gone?
« on: August 27, 2008, 07:21:05 PM »
Disconnectors and snakers made the Mario Kart DS online mode a very frustrating experience to me.  Needless to say, I'm really enjoying Mario Kart Wii's Wi-Fi modes, but a few days ago I logged online with Mario Kart DS out of curiosity.  I was surprised to see that I raced with no snakers.  I connected again day after day, and so far I've never seen any snakers!  What's happened to them?  Has anybody seen them?  Have they all moved on to Mario Kart Wii?  Not that I'm complaining with the lack of snaking, but I'm just surprised with these results.  Has anybody noticed this?

Gee, maybe Mario Kart DS online is playable again...

The karts are made (partly) out of rubber, right? So, when the lightning hits them, it sends a shock wave through the pedal/steering wheel and shrinks the character.
But...why would electricity shrink people?  And why only in certain games?  That's the question!

Here's a new burning Mariology question: in Mario Kart, why do the racers shrink when they get hit by lightning?  In any other game, electricity does not necessarily shrink them.  So why in Mario Kart?

I was thinking that since Mario has reached the final frontier (space)
If space is the final frontier, maybe in the next platformer they can go the opposite way and shrink Mario down to explore the microuniverse to jump around molecules and atoms.  But that would probably result in the same gameplay as Super Mario Galaxy; Nintendo will most likely build the next Mario game around a new gameplay element rather than the setting.

That reminds me, someone on TVTropes had a theory that Mario can only breathe in space when he's not thinking about it. In TTYD, Goombella convinced him not to think about it, and he was fine. In SPM, Tippi told him he couldn't breathe, and he couldn't, but once he put on something that looked like a space helmet, he tricked himself into thinking he could.

That makes sense.  It's like that cartoon law of physics where a person doesn't succumb to the laws of physics until he or she notices that they're broken.  Like when a cartoon character walks off a cliff, he won't fall until he notices that he should fall.

Mario Chat / Re: Is Super Mario RPG overrated?

Another thing I really liked about SMRPG was how your teammates had a reason to travel with you.  When Mallow joins the team he's out to...well, I probably shouldn't go into detail seeing how there's some people here who haven't played the game yet.  In general terms, he's out on a journey with a specific goal in mind.  That was missing in Paper Mario.  Remember Watt's reason for joining Mario?  She says something like, "You're going on an adventure?  Sounds like fun!  Me wanna join too!"  The Paper Mario teammates just didn't seem very motivated or developed.
But really, in these debates of SMRPG vs. PM, I guess it really all comes down to your personal tastes.

Here's a new Mariology debate!  Lately, Mario has been traveling to space and I couldn't help but notice a few things.  Back in Super Mario Land II, he needed a full space suit to survive on the moon.  In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, he travels there without one.  In Super Paper Mario, he needs a fishbowl to survive, while in Super Mario Galaxy he doesn't.  Some gamers would just ignore this and label it an inconsistency, but being the geek I am I've been thinking about the nature of outer space in Mario's world for quite some time.

I still think space in the Marioverse is still a vacuum, since Mario still wears a space suit occasionally.  But maybe there are special oxygen nebulas, or clouds of air, that create temporary patches of "livable space" that provide air and protection from solar radiation.  Or perhaps large celestial bodies in the Marioverse share an "expanded atmosphere" that spills into space.  And other ideas?

Zarkanthesmasher, I have to disagree with you 100%.  I feel that Super Mario RPG is not overrated, but Paper Mario is.
Don’t get me wrong.  I remember anxiously waiting for it the moment it was announced.  I couldn’t wait to experience the successor to my favorite game.  But after it came and I completely finished the game in its entirety, I couldn’t help but feel disappointed.  Even in that era of my youth when I would unanimously praise every new Mario game just because it was a Mario game, I had to admit that Paper Mario left a bad taste in my mouth.  Why?  I just feel that Paper Mario is the Yoshi’s Story of the Mario RPGs.
To me, Yoshi’s Story and Paper Mario feel like sequels that take everything that made the original a masterpiece and dumb it down.  This is one of the biggest reasons why I and many others put Super Mario RPG on a higher league over Paper Mario.  Whereas Super Mario RPG kept me challenged as I constantly got Game Overs trying to overcome some of the most epic battles in the Mario series, I simply breezed through Paper Mario effortlessly.  Remember the battles between Domino and Cloaker, Culex, and Jinx?  Paper Mario simply does not compare, especially when the game designers blatantly give you the winning strategy (like when Tubba Blubba’s heart is about to charge up and Bow tells you to use her power to evade).  Heck, remember Grate Guy’s Casino?  That’s probably one of the biggest secrets in a Mario game!  I couldn’t find it until months after I completed the game.  What’s Paper Mario’s equivalent?  The Playroom you encounter within the first two hours of gameplay (and a Toad even tells you something along the lines of “Why don’t you use your HAMMER to smack that TREE over there?!”).
Yeah, so basically I don’t understand why so many critics and fans praise Paper Mario.  I just find the gameplay brainless, like it was made for toddlers.  Every time I hear someone say that Paper Mario is better, I cringe the same way I do when I hear little kids say “Yoshi’s Story is SO MUCH BETTER than Yoshi’s Island!”  Now Zarkanthesmasher, I don’t intend or expect to change your opinion, but this little digression might help you understand why some people consider Super Mario RPG a superior game.
