Video Game Chat / Robocraft builds
« on: November 12, 2014, 06:40:33 AM »
Internet-ional Man of Mystery, Suffix/Hagu here. I recently won a video-making contest for the build-your-own-vehicular-combat F2P game, Robocraft.

Some of you might even play it. If so... roll out your robots!

Here are mine, in order of garage bay.

Game Blog / Iwata Asks: NSMB Wii
« on: December 01, 2009, 02:05:09 AM »
It should probably be worth noting that a new Iwata Asks series has appeared, interviewing Miyamoto about Mario history and the design of New Super Mario Brothers Wii.

There's some interesting information in this interview. I, for one, only hazily recall learning that Donkey Kong was originally going to be a game about Popeye. In addition, we've often thought that Alice in Wonderland was the inspiration for the Super Mushroom, no? Miyamoto reports "that isn't the case!"

Fan Creations / CP Platform 1 Beta 1

I forgot about this!

FPSBanana overview:
Quote
Now, Platform 1 is a 3-stage CP map not unlike Dustbowl: offense captures two points per stage and in later stages spawns in the defense's old spawn. The roles are reversed, however, so that this heavily industrial aquatic base makes some degree of sense. Originally, Platform 1 was to be very much like an oil platform, but as time went on, it looked less and less as such.

This is Platform 1, my first completed Source map. It's quite interesting. Once again, to insert a custom map, you must place the .bsp file in YourSteamProfile/Team Fortress 2/tf/maps .

Game Blog / Miyamoto Reveals Business Strategy: Don't Be Like Sega
« on: June 24, 2008, 03:50:25 PM »

In a short interview with Wired Magazine, Shigeru Miyamoto discussed Nintendo's gamble with the Wii Remote, the semi-game nature of titles such as Wii Fit, and most amusingly, how quality control is conducted by saying "Oh, this looks like a Sega game. We need to make it look more like Mario."

Fan Creations / Flying Contraptions I Have Known and Loved

"I decided to play though Half Life 2 via Garry's Mod on the 8th of June, 2008. One of my obsessions in Garry's Mod is the creation of flying machines, and I'm taking this obsession to the max as I replay HL2 while piloting various absurd contraptions. There will be as many (or more!) hovercraft, airplanes, and rockets as there are maps without a ceiling."
If you've ever played Half Life 2, then you should at least be aware of the existence of Garry's Mod: a physics sandbox and construction tool that allows you to do a bunch of crazy stuff. I had a lot of time on my hands during the last week or so, and I made this feature type thing. It gets steadily better as my skills improved. Enjoy!

Note: There's also another feature after the show, called "Welcome to City 17!"

Game Blog / Mario Visits Canada, Graces National Hockey League
« on: June 12, 2008, 02:37:24 PM »
In honor of the release of the Nintendo Wii's first official NHL/NHLPA licensed hockey video game (NHL 2K9, from 2K Sports), our main man Mario is taking a trip to Toronto. He'll be available for picture opportunities on the red carpet at Elgin Theatre, 6:15 p.m. ET, during the 2008 NHL Awards.

It seems like a rather unreasonable ploy to sell another iteration of another sport simulator, but you've got to admit, those official Mario costumes are pretty good.

Game Blog / Mario Themes Via Bassoon Quintet
« on: June 07, 2008, 01:55:48 AM »

We can watch all sorts of folks play Mario themes on Youtube, but it's not every day you see a quintet of talented bassoonists increase the ranks. A variety of 2D Mario games are represented, including SMB1-3, SML, SMW1-2, perhaps even more! Bassoons (and contrabassoon) aside, the performers manage a bit of beatboxing (sneezing?), adding to the experience.

Feel free to share any unique performances you've witnessed to date.

Game Blog / CVG Charles Martinet Interview
« on: December 07, 2007, 08:46:29 PM »
On November 29, the voice of Mario, Charles Martinet, spoke in an interview with computerandvideogames.com. In this 15 (or less) minute video interview, Martinet discusses how he landed his job as the mascot's voice, how he develops personalities for Nintendo characters, and side topics such as his take on violence in video games. Regardless of topic, however, it's always fun to hear Martinet converse on random subjects while intermittently inserting the voices of Mario and company.

CVG requires a Windows Media Player plug-in, so be advised of browser incompatibilities. Use the Launch Player link on the right side of the introduction body.

A new Mario wedding cake has popped up, and this delicious construction features the entire Super Mario Bros. level 1-1, wrapping around its four tiers.

Why another? You might recall that these people had their cake and ate it first.

Fan Creations / Suffix Conducts: The Legend of Zelda Medley
« on: July 23, 2007, 08:15:59 PM »
In June 2007, after much work and sweating, I finally got to conduct the piece I transcribed, a popular Legend of Zelda Medley, similar to that in the Play! concerts. Mine was slightly shorter and easier.

This was the first time I had ever conducted, and it's clear through this that I'm inexperienced. Still, it doesn't sound too bad, if you ask me! But what do you, the people of Fungi Forums, think?

My favorite part is the "Dark World" music from A Link to the Past.

Forum Games / Welcome to the Story Boards!
« on: November 23, 2005, 12:15:33 AM »
Here, you might find a jewel of a fan fiction, or make a best-reader of your own! In addition to fan fiction, the Story Boards are open for RPGs. In order to make this section a quality addition to the Fungi Forums, please, abide by these simple rules.

  • Profanity isn't funny or neccessary. Don't use it.
  • Also, abundances* of crude humor or your standard, disgusting junk will not be tolerated.
  • If nothing else, use common sense* to determine what you should include and not include. If you don't have common sense, go get some.
  • Don't start huge amounts of things and never wrap them up. This was a large problem we had with RPGs, not too long ago...

Thanks! -Suffix (and his future replacement)
*These terms will be defined by me on neccessary occasions. Don't pretend you don't understand them, however.

I believe that if you're not irritating. the other people, you are fitting in just enough. I think you're doing a fair job...

As for some, they fit peg-in-hole. Some just need time... Or a different place.
