It sounds like there are separate audio cables for the different video inputs. I'm just guessing, but the HD input is probably using a coaxial or optical audio cable, while the other input is probably using the standard red/white rca cables. So, you just need to find the digital audio cable, and plug one end into the cable box's digital audio output, and the other end into your tv or stereo's digital audio input.
