I'd have to say, some of the greatest video game music compositions have been found in Mario games. Super Mario RPG, World, and 64, to name a few.

What are your favorite pieces? Post your favorite Mario composers, too, if you want.

Smithy 2nd Phase from Super Mario RPG
Bowser's Domain from Super Mario 64
Bowser Battle from Super Mario 64
Bowser Final Battle from Super Mario 64
Most of the music from Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga
Most of the music from MK64, MKSC and MKDS

Cheese Land from Mario Kart Super Circuit. Composers are apparently Kenichi Nishimaki, Masanobu Matsunaga and Minako Hamano, so who knows which one wrote it.
That was a joke.

I liked most of the music in Super Paper Mario, but here are a few of my favorites:

"The Ultimate Show"
"Sammer's Kingdom"
"Lineland Road"
"I'm Not Nice"
"Castle Bleck"
"Flipside"

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door: Battle Theme, first and third of the battle themes for the final boss, Super Bowser World 1, X-Naut Fortress, Doopliss' battle theme, Shadow Sirens' battle theme, etc. etc...
Super Paper Mario had some excellent music. I liked World 3's background music a lot. The Super Smash Bros. Melee version of the SMB3 music can rock one's socks, too.

Hey, uh... anybody know where I could get some PM:TTYD tracks WITHOUT sound effects? I found a couple of sources with fair MP3s, but things like the curtain rising before the battle's start or the sound made when a character speaks weren't removed... you can hear the Paragoomba's wings flapping in the battle theme MP3...

Super Mario RPG carries my favorite compositions. The Finale, Forest Maze, Smithy's Theme... I could go on and on. The only SNES game that beats SMRPG in music, in my opinion, is Chrono Trigger. :)

Any star music for any game.
Um... TTYD battle, uh, SMW, SMRPG, waaaaaaaaay too much to list.
And the NES Contra forest song and that "base" song right after it or whatever. I like Maniac Mansion's song.... uh with the main guy I think it is.

The music from PM:TTYD RAWKED! The themes from Doopliss, Shadow Sirens, Crump, Grubba, and mini bosses all were awesome, but my fave was the Doopliss theme :)
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

I liked the music for TTYD's menu and a few other things, but overall, it was not the best.

I also like the majority of music from Mario Kart 64, especially the credits. I miss the time when all music for credits was epic and not jazzy or boring. Which isn't to say that music for credits is always like that now, but it doesn't seem as common.

Have any of the musically inclined members made recordings of their performances of Mario music?  I think that would be fun to hear.

This subject would also make a good poll, but the options would have to be narrowed down first.

Oh boy...where to start

Super Mario Bros 1:
Everyone loves the default level theme :)
Underground Theme

Mario Kart 64:
Kalimari Desert
The Raceway themes
Start screen
But, my favorite one is the Starman theme. Really. In fact, it's my favorite composition of the starman in any Mario game. Period. I just wish there was some place to download it. ha.

Super Mario RPG:
Smithy Part 1 Theme
Smithy Part 2 Theme
Culex Theme (duh!)
Default Boss Battle Theme
Seaside Town
Booster Tower

Eh, they're just a few. Maybe in a later post I'll add a bit more.

Pretty much everything from SMRPG.
Except the demonstration theme I mean [wtd] it was terrible.

Remember that your first Goomba boldly you walk? When Mario touched that mushroom being brought up more largely remember that you are surprised? Miscalculate your jump that pit remember that it falls?

Pardon my foolish behaviour up there, but I must ask, why haven't such words been filtered?

No BP, I edited the part he was talking about, I think. Also, you can't really filter words that are part of other words. Or you can but for some reason we haven't. Dunno.
That was a joke.

« Reply #28 on: May 16, 2007, 01:19:17 PM »
Well, "Massive" and "Yo[dukar]ennis" wouldn't work, so I guess filtering can't be really done perfectly.

One notable song is the Seaside Town song, as in the one after you beat Yaridovich.

It's an eleven-year-old game, man. SMITHY LOOKS LIKE SANTA! SNAPE KILLS MALLOW!
SMRPG had some great music, as could be expected from a Square game. All the battle themes were decent.

I'm sure you'll love JaSp's NSF re-sequence.
It's already implemented to the SMB3 ROM, and hack he's making looks (and sounds) great.

The invention of the NSF/SPC/USF/GSF, etc., is one of the best things evar.

It introduced me to more great music, such as that of SMRPG and Chrono Trigger.

Both great games.

I love the music from all the mario games. I think the best music is found in the mario rpgs.
The Mario series is the best! It has every genre in video games but RTS'! It also has a plumber who does different roles, a princess, and a lot of odd creatures who don't seem to poop!
