Not a family tree, per se, but a graphic structured akin to one that details, well, just about every Mario game, ever.

Could someone upload it to Photobucket or such and post it in this thread?  I can't see it...

I would've put the picture up, but the only one I could find with decent quality was the gargantuan one in the link.

I wonder how they're going to squeeze in SMG2 and NSMB Wii.

I think both would branch off on each side from SMG, as neither is really the "true" next main-series Mario game.

The next main Mario game likely won't be out until the next console comes.

What?

I guess that logic means that Super Mario Bros 2, and 3, and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's island are not main-series Mario games (the latter of which actually isn't considered one by that chart but I strongly disagree).

Actually, yeah, I wouldn't consider Yoshi's Island a main-series Mario game. After all, it isn't on the poster, anyway.

Yoshi's Island is on the poster. Look for the Yoshi section of games, to the right of the Wario section and Super Mario 64. Makes sense for Yoshi's Island to be over there with all the Yoshi games. I had forgotten how many Wario games there were, though.

I would have thought Yoshi's Island would be a main game since it's Super Mario World 2, so at least derive it from Super Mario World, but then it wouldn't fit neatly into the Yoshi section (and after realizing that Yoshi for Gameboy came out before SMW2).

Cool poster anyway.

It wasn't called that in Japan.

Main series or not, YI stands out for its quality. I mean, just being a main series game doesn't automatically mean it's a better one... have a look at Sunshine...

I rectract.

The NES had three main Mario games, Snes had two (three if you count YI), N64 had two, GC had two, Wii.. is going to have three (four if you count SPM).

*note that I am counting the Mario RPG's as main games*

For the most part, I would consider a "main-series" Mario game to be an original platformer starring Mario.

I like it, but it feels a little "off." For instance, Wario Land is Super Mario Land 3, so I think it should branch off of SML2. Also, I think the Advance games, as well as Super Mario 64 DS, should all deviate from Super Mario Bros. Deluxe... Or even Super Mario All-Stars.

I took a good look at it, and WOW! It was well done when it was made.

...It's not that old.
