Title: Club Nintendo Rewards!
Post by: Toad on November 22, 2009, 07:59:42 PM
Curse Club Nintendo and their cool rewards. I have enough Coins to get some great rewards, but I am having trouble deciding what to get. These are what I'm deciding beween..

A set of Hanafuda cards (some have pictures of Mario characters on them)
A set of Mario Cards (put them all together to make the boxart from Mario Party 8)
Super Mario Bros themed Ds Lite game carrying case (holds 9 games and comes with seven Ds Lite Styli [or styluses?])
Silver DS Lite carrying case (only holds one Ds Lite, no games)
Game & Watch Collection (A Ds cart containing three G&W games: Oil Panic, Donkey Kong, Greenhouse)
The Legend of Zelda poster series (a three poster series depecting the history of the Zelda series)

Toadette has expressed interest in the Zelda posters, and before I told her about it, I was really leaning toward the SMB themed carrying case and Styli set. I don't have enough points for both, but I was thinking if I got her the poster set, I could get myself the Ds Lite carrying case. She has said that I can just pick whatever, but I thought I would try to get her something too.

If we get any of the card sets, that is all we'd be able to get until I register more stuff.

If I had known about this sooner,I could have joined Lizard Dude and tried to decide between getting a Mario hat or afree Wiiware game. Maybe next time..

So, what would  you pick?? :)

Sorry to burst Toadette's bubble, but the poster set is probably the poorest pick listed, seeing that it could just as easily be ripped from the pages of Nintendo Power. I would personally recommend somthing more historic, like the Hafunda cards, SMB game/stylus case or G&W Collection. The only drawback to choosing something functional is that you'll never actually use it outside your home for fear of wrecking it.

If I choose the SMB Set, I would use it to store my multiplayer/wifi DS games and take it with me on trips (my sister lives on a base in another state now..)

A set of Hanafuda cards (some have pictures of Mario characters on them)
Obviously not the real deal, but still cool.

A set of Mario Cards (put them all together to make the boxart from Mario Party 8)
And was that a totally awesome game, or what.

Super Mario Bros themed Ds Lite game carrying case (holds 9 games and comes with seven Ds Lite Styli [or styluses?])
Stylish yet superfluous.

Silver DS Lite carrying case (only holds one Ds Lite, no games)
See above; also, I certainly couldn't imagine the point in it holding any more Lites.

Game & Watch Collection (A Ds cart containing three G&W games: Oil Panic, Donkey Kong, Greenhouse)
Insubstantial and unoriginal, but nevertheless an actual game.

The Legend of Zelda poster series (a three poster series depecting the history of the Zelda series)
Awesome indeed (but Weegee has a point).

And was that a totally awesome game, or what.

Awesome indeed, but I can just look at the boxart if I want to look at the boxart

Stylish yet superfluous.

Maybe, but I was thinking of getting it anyway, being a hardcore SMB fan and all.

See above; also, I certainly couldn't imagine the point in it holding any more Lites.

I was kinda lamenting the fact that that's all it would hold: I one DS Lite and no games. Who's going to carry just their DS on them..?

Weegee kinda has a point. Hmm.. Decisions..

Obviously not the real deal, but still cool.
In what way? It's a full set of normal-sized Hanafuda cards in a plastic case. Nintendo actually still makes normal Hanafuda cards in their spare time, and the case is apparently the same as the case from one of the normal sets they make but with a different sticker on the front.

Wait, does this mean my poker cards with the naked ladies on them aren't real?!

I'd go with the poster in hopes that it is something new. Maybe it will include the hidden real chronology that Miyamoto said was in his head.

The cards don't interest me, don't need a carrying case with seven styluses, a carrying case without space for games sounds worthless, and the G&W Collection is worthless unless you don't own the first three Game & Watch Gallery games like I do (and even then, I didn't really care for the three games listed. Should have been Fire, Helmet, and Mario Bros).

I wonder if and when Nintendo will ever get around to releasing the other G&W games. Maybe they already released all the good ones and figure no one wants the rest. Come on, Game & Watch Wii/DS Collection. 60-some reflex-oriented games. It's not that hard.

That was my original intendtion as well. (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TooAwesomeToUse) Of course, it looks awesome even on your shelf, provided that you're there to occasionally dust it.

They've secretly done that already. I think they called it Wario Ware.. :p

After much deliberation and talking with Toadette, I decided to go for the SMB styled game case. I'll have to get her something good for Christmas since I know she would like to have had those posters (even though she told me it was ok to get something that only I would likely use).

Maybe if I get a bunch of points saved up again, I'll get her the poster set. I just need to get three Wii games for Christmas. Ha! Wishful thinking, and there's not really a whole lot out that I'm interested in. I already have New SMBW.. I guess Wario Land: Shake It would be a good one, but after that, I don't know..

If you're willing to relieve yourself of at least $50 for three pictures on glossy posters, eBay could be a viable option.
Title: Re: Club Nintendo Rewards!
Post by: Toad on November 24, 2009, 09:51:38 PM
Nah. I'll just wait until I find something like that in real life. I don't trust eBay that much anymore. Too many bad transactions.

In hindsight, I thought of a couple more Wii Mario games that I don't have: Mario Super Sluggers, and Mario Strikers Charged. I'm sure that those two, with Wario Land, would get me enough coins to get those posters. Here's hoping I get them for Christmas.. or enough money for them..

Let's bump this mother up.

It turns out I lost 400 Coins in 2011. If you ask me, they shouldn't be allowed to expire. You paid for the game, so your Coins should be bankable for however long you [darn] well please. I've also missed out on a few post-play surveys.

If you've been buying many 3DS games or downloads, you might want to check this list (https://club.nintendo.com/coin-values.do) before July 1, when the Coin value for many titles increases or decreases.

EDIT: After registering my games en masse, I'm up to 1020 Coins with Platinum status. Does that qualify me for the Mario badge set, or for the next reward? Is there a certain time at which new prizes are announced? If so, I might hold on to my Coins.

EDIT 2: Despite being a far smaller market than North America, Club Nintendo Europe gets far better prizes. (http://www.nintendo.co.uk/NOE/en_GB/club_nintendo/stars_catalogue_5823.html) That replica SNES controller is particularly awesome.
Title: Re: Club Nintendo Rewards!
Post by: WarpRattler on June 02, 2012, 07:32:15 AM
That's actually good news for me, because several 3DS games I haven't registered yet (because I'm already at Platinum) are getting increases for the new cycle. Unfortunately, CRUSH 3D is getting a decrease, which offsets that a little, but it's not a big deal.

Also, I have 650 coins right now, with seventy coins worth of surveys to take care of once the new cycle starts, plus hundreds of points worth of games (along with a 3DS) to register once the new cycle begins. I want those Hanafuda cards, but I'll wait until I can guarantee a second year of Platinum to get the rest of the coins I need for them.

Weegee, you'll qualify for the new set of Gold and Platinum rewards when they're announced, not the current set of rewards. And prizes change all the time.

Speaking of prizes, that awesome 3DS/DS game holder LD mentioned a while back is back. I have enough Coins, and wasn't saving for anything huge (maybe the Hanafuda cards..eventually) but I like having places to keep my games more than having more playing cards (even though the cards are really cool).

I have now ordered enough so that I can have each artwork showing.

Elite status is based on the number of coins you earn in the year, whether you spend them or not, if that's what you're worried about.

I was afraid I wasn't going to make Platinum this year, but turns out I'd forgotten to register Diddy Kong Racing, Personal Trainer: Cooking, and HeartGold back when I got them, so between those coins, those surveys, and a couple surveys I still had kicking around, I'll just make it, without even having to buy all the DSiWare clocks at the last minute.

(I also forgot to register Meteos and Mario Hoops, but those don't count apparently. And the games I have that I forgot to register that would count (Mario Kart DS and Yoshi's Island DS), I don't know what I did with the codes from them. And I also lost the codes for Partners in Time and Super Princess Peach, which also wouldn't count, even though Super Princess Peach is in this picture (https://club-catalog.nintendo.com/wcsstore/ClubNintendo/images/catalog/n3ds_gamecard_case_big_1.jpg) on the site and should totally count.)

Weegee, you'll qualify for the new set of Gold and Platinum rewards when they're announced, not the current set of rewards. And prizes change all the time.

Right then, thanks. Since my account info says I won't lose any Coins at the month's end, I think I'll hold on to them... Although, those Hanafuda cards are mighty tempting...

By the way, should I feel bad for looking for a Club Nintendo code generator?
Title: Re: Club Nintendo Rewards!
Post by: BP on June 02, 2012, 04:28:12 PM
I made it to Platinum with everything I got this year and last year. I hope the reward is something nice... I am neither a pin guy nor a slap-SMB1-sprites-on-everything-in-sight guy so I have no regrets regarding last year. I probably will register everything next year though, considering the Wii U. It'll depend on how many games I'll get.

Wee G, I feel bad having simply having registered Kirby's Epic Yarn using a slip Jim and I found in a rental copy and giving it a half-assed survey. Besides that one, I put my best effort into the surveys and review them properly. I feel like Nintendo actually does want to know what we players think, all over the world. So I feel obligated to do my part in the seller-buyer relationship and do it right. Except, you know, when I pirate DS games. Hurrr.
Title: Re: Club Nintendo Rewards!

Yeah, I hope to God this year's Platinum reward is good. My game intake has slowed to a trickle as of late; not counting DSiWare, I haven't bought a proper game since Skyward Sword.

Whose job do you suppose it is to read all the surveys? Is that all they do? Is it bad that I make reference to some games being as tedious and unrewarding as reading surveys like this one all day?

Check your email, y'all.

I'm going with the playing cards. They're ugly as sin, but more collectible than the posters. Who in their right mind would spend their Coins on VC games?

EDIT: Even though I got the congratulatory email, Club Nintendo says I'm not eligible for the platinum reward. What gives?

It's been glitchy lately. When I redeemed my reward, it was only offering the cards and the calendar.

If all you're seeing is the cards or the calendar, close your browser and login in to CN again. That's what worked for me.

I ordered the cards. I haven't seen a set of Mario playing cards anywhere else, and I can always use the coins to get the games. The rest of the awards were kinda lame this year..

I consulted my brother about it yesterday, and he went with the cards; I wanted them as well, so everything worked out for us. I have to agree with the other choices, although I was almost tempted with the Metroid game. Still, I figured I'd rather get something exclusive to platinum status since I'd never get to see some of the other stuff. Better than last year, if you ask me.

My second choice would've been the poster series.

You know what's not ugly as sin? The posters. I really don't care about "collectibility"; I'd rather have posters that look nice on my wall than cards that look like crap (and that I'd never use) on my shelf.

You guys have no taste. The cards look amazing.

The posters are nice too, though, especially since the titles are relatively small and there's no ESRB ratings on them cluttering them up. Good thing my brother also got Platinum.

If you had elite status before the deadline (I assume you did based on your coin total and what's needed to get gold in 2013) I suggest contacting Nintendo ASAP.  I had errors with Club Nintendo on Chrome so I switched to IE and it worked fine for me, but your problem seems to be from Nintendo's side.

I tried using IE as well; no luck. Tech support forwarded the issue to "Administration", who will apparently override the system to send the gift if necessary.

Upon closer inspection, I change my indifference to the design of the playing cards to a general liking; I've got no idea what makes them so hideous in anyone's eyes.

I find they look too busy.

EDIT: I just ordered the Hanafuda cards (not the playing cards), so the issue isn't with my address.

EDIT 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO: I can't get it to work in Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Firefox.

I got the posters... even though I hate the composition of the LM2 one and I've already got the Zelda one in purple from the 25th Anniversary set...

I think Nintendo puts a little too much faith in the idea that we care about how elite-exclusive these things are supposed to be. Nothing in here would've gone for more than maybe 400 coins as a normal reward. It's lame to complain about free stuff but isn't the point to make us rave about how cool Nintendo is?
Title: Re: Club Nintendo Rewards!

Yeah, I hope this isn't a sign of things to come. Club Nintendo prizes should be distinguishable from something torn out of a magazine or bought at a novelty shop.

I didn't qualify for Platinum this year and I'm glad I didn't waste my time since those prizes are even lamer than the pin set. Ended up just getting Metroid II since its the only game I didn't have from those prizes.

Haha, that's exactly my situation; I owned every game there except for the Metroid one... but honestly, I'd rather have playing cards than pins. I have absolutely no use for the pins other than to see how embarrassed I get when that inevitable first icebreaker slam hits me.

It'd be more tempting if the game didn't look like the rehash of the century.

I bet that and a WiiU purchase would be more than enough to qualify for Gold so I might as well do it.
Title: Re: Club Nintendo Rewards!
Post by: BP on July 24, 2012, 04:07:48 AM
I'm actually thinkin' about it. My relationship with handhelds has flipped since I was little; they used to be all about mindless Game & Watch types that could kill short lengths of time, but I had hours of car time and took with me everything I had in a neat little case. And sure, I was happy with Pokémon and Super Mario Advance but if I could have taken a console's share with me, I wouldn't think twice... Now handhelds have things that aren't suited for them any more than for consoles, and I don't even have the initiative to care about what game is in my 3DS when I pocket it in the first place. It's like handheld games and I grew up in completely opposite directions. So I'm starting to see the value of having a lot of smaller-scale games in download form. I really need Game & Watch Gallery 2 back.

What if instead of a port of the Wii U's version, 3DS got a minimized, downloadable Super Smash Bros. with a more clean-cut roster of 15-20 (and no clones or Luigis), and it remembered which character you used last and your match settings even after turning the game off? I'd get both of 'em
Title: Re: Club Nintendo Rewards!
Post by: Bigluigifan1.0 on July 24, 2012, 07:06:13 AM
Hm... my final decision will be partially influenced by the hit my SD card will take for the download. I don't think I mind terribly much not having a physical copy, otherwise I probably wouldn't be such an avid buyer of Virtual Console titles.

I wish Europe had rewards.
Then I had some 3DS VCs for my stars already.

I'm glad my stars didn't expire, not even 1.
My first registration was on 17-1-2011.
There is indeed a lot of junk in the star catalogue, so I hope they will put 3DS VCs or codes for eShop like they did with Wii Points.

The posters are a Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon artwork with horrible composition, the box art for Kid Icarus Uprising, and a Zelda: Skyward Sword one that was featured in the Zelda 25th Anniversary poster set that you could get for 500 coins normally, only now it's gold instead of purple, the characters aren't in color and Ghirahim is gone.

Like you wouldn't believe. Chicks are all over wrist straps.

Also, my picture was too high quality last time.

I should mention that this one time, they actually sent me in a new Skyward Sword poster for free just because of a very slight artwork error.

What were you doing in a Skyward Sword poster?

That's actually pretty neat.

So then... how about them there 2014 status rewards, eh? How altruistic of Nintendo, foregoing exclusive prizes that reward loyal customers for a ten-dollar download anyone can buy.

Sure am glad I didn't hold off registering my games until next year.

I got DKCR3D because it was the only game I gave a crud about.

Also, it was pretty much the best value there, with the only one of similar monetary value being Game and Wario, which is... Game and Wario.

Same here, although my 3DS seems to intensely dislike my internet connection, so I'll probably have to download it at work tomorrow; I've only managed 5% of intermittent download after ~1.5 hours.

For more details see:  http://club2.nintendo.com/program-notice/

I guess I now have to complete these 51 surveys I've been stashing.  Hope they offer more than downloads of titles I already have.  Maybe we should set up a trading thread.

All Club Nintendo members will get Flipnote 3D in February. It won't have any online sharing, though.

Anyone want to bet nearly all the new rewards will be digital, save for a few cards and posters?

I read that, but my point is the physical rewards will be garbage.

Oh, I wasn't being antagonistic.  I was offering support for your comment.

Regardless, does anyone want to trade any Wii U code for something currently on Club Nintendo?  Also let me know if anything new pops up you want to trade for.

When did they stop giving coins for registering consoles? I just registered my 2DS the other day (I had been planning on saving it until next year, but yeah), and it didn't give me anything.

Anyone want a Monster Hunter demo code? I've got an extra one.

I completed the survey from my Wii U registration yesterday and got the points.  Maybe you did it during the time that they had problems.  I know my account showed no coins for a while and even showed some things I'd reg'd as not being complete.  Did you simply add the reg code?  If so, I think you need to complete a survey to get the points.  If you did the survey and/or it's not showing up I suggest contacting them about it.  They are generally very easy to work with.  Once I bought a DK classic game that didn't come with a code and they reg'd it for me over the phone.  I also once did not receive a Club Nintendo reward and they simply mailed me a new one (it was shoelaces).

For some reason, I have my SSB Wii U code registered so that I have Mewtwo and the CD, but not the survey. I should probably call Nintendo about that.

Also, is anyone else having the Flipnote 3D thing not show up?

One of the games up for download now is Doc Louis's Punch-Out! (https://club.nintendo.com/rewards-details/a/45193.do)

The download games will all be available until June 30th, so save up for physical rewards first, but yeah, that's pretty big.

As predicted, all the physical rewards besides the game-card case are either paper or cloth.

The table calendar is pretty classy, though.

I've got 1300 coins, which I'll be spending on EarthBound, NES Remix, Wario Land 2, and both Dillon's Rolling Western games.

I got Dillon's Rolling Western since I actually had some coins. Should have got a 250 coin thing for Wii U, can't say I really enjoy this game, plus it runs at like 20fps even without 3D on. I should probably play it a bit more though to see if I actually like it.

Flipnote 3D though! Finally!

I pop out of them and scare unsuspecting Zelda fans.
