Title: Super Mario 128
Post by: Toddathon on December 14, 2002, 12:25:56 PM
What do you think SM128 will be like?  I hope its good, and better than just a vacation game like SMS, with like forest and snow levels and such.  That would be good.

Well, it will probably follow the basic structure of a Mario Game: Peach is kidnapped by Bowser, Mario must rescue Peach (not that I am complaining).  And FLUDD won't be in it, so it'll be more like SM64.

Maybe Mario 128 will be like Pikman. Controling 128 Marios in a Pikman-like game would be cool. The mario lemmings are coming!

(I think I already posted this, but in the wrong thread.  Sorry.)

If it's like Pikmin, I'm an die hard Neglected Mario Character fan. There going off the cliffs the first time I play the game.

Do you honestly think Shiggy would make a Pikmin game from a Mario game? He invented Pikmin to do a whole new (well, kinda new) kind of game. He wouldn't do a Mario game that was just like his new franchise. I read in an interview with him a while back that Mario 128 (which was 100 Marios at that time, I think) would use the sludge and water effects like the stuff in SMS.
Hmm... maybe Mario 128 will be a new side-scrolling game! That would be sweet.

Okay, here's what I've discovered (and some of you may have beaten me to the punch, but whatever...)
Shiggy said: "We're developing Pikmin 2 and the Mario 128 that we showed to everyone at a press announcement earlier. You will feel something new in this game that wasn't in Mario Sunshine."
Also, I believe translated differently, was
"Pikmin 2 & the Mario 128 game that were shown at the unveiling of GameCube are now both in development. I believe that with this game [Mario 128] you will be able to feel the newness that was missing from Mario Sunshine."

Also, the day after they showed Mario 128 at Spaceworld, he said "I actually had more to show yesterday, but the PR division strictly said no."

Also, a funny thing is how the programming from Mario 128 was used for Pikmin.

Anyway, now I'm thinking that Mario 128 will be some kind of puzzle game... although that would seem kind of dull, considering what they showed for the demo... anyway...

If that is what he said then I was probably wrong.  I had the impression what I read at another site that he was making Mario 128: Pikman 2.  Now it looks more like he is actually making 2 differant games.

Anyway, the 100 Mario's in the Spaceworld demo were probably just to show what the Gamecube could do.  Mario 128 might actually have only one Mario.  And, hopefully Luigi Mario and other neglected characters like Toad.  Maybe it will have some of the SMB3 suits or pulling veggies like SMB2, but in 3D.

That would be cool, although, the demo at Spaceworld was officially called Mario 128... so anyway... whatever they make, it'll be great. That's all I need to know.
But they do need to put Luigi in another game with Mario. Mario was barely even IN Luigi's Mansion.

It's the Playboy magazine from Japan, where everything is different.
