Video Game Chat / Re: The Best Video Games You've Never Heard Of
« on: September 15, 2008, 12:24:53 PM »
hat's funny is I consider Sonic CD OVERrated. That's the thing with these types of disscussions. Not many people will have a certain game...but then  the ones that have it and love it become fanatic and make it sound better than it is. Then people who never played it go into it with high excpectations and feel dissapointed.I didn't play Sonic CD until the Gems collection, and I found the time travel gimmick annoying and distracting from beating beating the levels the way I'd like to. The music and atmosphere was great, but it doesn't hold up as well as the Genesis games to me.

As far as games people don't appreciate or know that well...

Legend of the Mystical Ninja(SNES) , Sonic 3D Blast(Saturn version), Ristar(Genesis), Fighters Megamix(Saturn) and Parasite Eve(Playstation).

I almost want to nominate the Saturn as a system people haven't heard of. lol Obviously people have, but I have to stop myself from just naming gems iff that system like Panzar Dragoon saga, Bug! 1 & 2, Fighting Vipers, etc

And there are some good thirty games arriving...Madworld, Sonic Unleashed etc. Nintendo ended their production cycle on lots of first party titles between last fall and this summer. I really just feel as if nothing is far along enough to present aside from WarioLand. Maybe we'll get something exciting at the next show...

As far as that list...three of those games look pretty hardcore.

The worst real game I've played? That's hard to say. Probably Sonic Labrynth. I mean, let's take a character known for speed and personality...take away both...ansd create a game entirely focused on walking around and spindashing. And walking slowly, for that matter. It's like Sonic 3D Blast, except without the great music and clever level design. And any fun factor at all.

The worst pirate game? Sonic 7! LOL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJXzCyIs3WA

Nice to find someone else that didn't like Donkey Kong 64. I couldn't overcome the camera or the overcomplicated controls. It just felt cumbersome.

The Wii was worth the $250 for Galaxy, Brawl and a few other killer apps. And my gamecube was broke, so...it helps there too.

That said, if I want anything multi-platform, I'll be getting the 360 version. Except Sonic Unleashed. I'm getting both (different level designs/game engine).

Mario Chat / Re: What would the next big Mario game be like?
« on: July 12, 2008, 07:09:22 PM »
I'd kind of like a Mario game with multiple playable characters, where each character has a different storyline that helps you see the whole picture after you beat them all. It's not very Mario-ish, but it would be interesting and unique enough as a gimmick but still hold to Mario tradition.

More companies should do this, actually. Maybe a Genesis-style Sonic 4 or an NES style Super Mario Bros 4.

Video Game Chat / Re: How is Sonic "Cool"?
« on: July 12, 2008, 06:52:50 PM »
Sonic is cool because his games revolutionized platformers. It was a platformer that played entirely different than anything else, with level design that rewarded both speed runs and exploration.(particuarly S3&K). As far as a character...Sonic's impatient but very heroic. It's not like he's only attitude. Really, when it comes to his games now...he's a thrillseeker that always helps his friends when they need him. If you think the attitude made Sonic cool, study the 16-bit era. Look at all the bad platformers mimicing Sonic's style without the exceleent level design or intuitive controls. And yes, attitude stretched to the level or annoying. Bubsy, anyone?

Sonic's character is probably more...negative than most company mascots. He's kind of arrogant and self-absorbed. I'm a huge Sonic fan and even enjoy the 3D games, but really the awnser is "Play the games".Mario would just be an annoying character if the games played like Gex.

Video Game Chat / Re: I'm regretting a recent purchase...

Theonly PSP games I want are the Sonic Rivals games and Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core. These are the times I'm tempted to wait for emulation to pick up for current gen systems. heh. That said, I might get a PSP when it'a much cheaper. On the DS...well, you have Mario & Luigi, Metroid, Yoshi's Island 2, WarioWare, Zelda, Sonic Chronicles/Sonic Rush/Rush Adventure...

Plus, much more. If you're into classic-style gaming or quirky games the DS is much better. And if you like Mario, that's likely your thing. The PSP is great for non-gaming purposes and original spinoffs of console games(like Metal Gear, Sonic, Ratch & Clank, Grand theft auto, God of War etc).

Video Game Chat / Re: Emulators vs. Consoles
« on: June 15, 2008, 03:38:55 PM »
I only really play games emulated for purposes of hacking(or playing hacked games), or beating old games I just never got around to finishing before. If something's available for a console I have, I'll buy it. I got Sonic Mega Collection instead of emulating, same with Mario 64 DS(in a sense, though it's a different game). I'd also buy a Mother/Earthbound collection.

Actually, I think I love playing pirate games or testing out abstract, messed up game saves as well.

Besides, if a company chooses to censor it's own product...that's within their rights to do so. Telling them not to do what they want could theoretically be construed as censorship too, right? Nintendo wanted to be family friendly, I really don't understand why that bothers people.

I mean, when I was a kid I wanted lots of blood and gore and other nonsense and hated it getting removed. Then I grew up and realized it's not even important. Maybe it's seeing how my generation is turning out...

Video Game Chat / Re: Nintendo Games Get Boring
« on: June 05, 2008, 06:05:56 PM »
I just hate when I don't have the patiance to unlock secrets that are interesting, but not worth losing a week to aquire. Did I love Mario Galaxy? Yeah. Do I love it enough to get 120 stars and play as Luigi? No. Do I want to play as Luigi? Well...yes.

Same for Green Hill in Sonic Adventure 2 or other goodies...I get bored at playing the game before I can get the bonuses. I realize we should reward people for getting everything, but people who want to get everything...will get everything. Like my endless quest for perfect scores in Donkey Kong Country...

Well, something doesn't have to be BAD to make people angry. A lot of the time anger is based moreso on the thought behind the idea, fan reaction or some other issue. I personally enjoy the Wii, and it has plenty of games I enjoy as a low-end next gen option. It has quality games, decent variety and affordable product. That said, I dislike motion sensing and don't see why it couldn't have been offered with stronger system power, anyway.  Aside from Nintendo games...when I get a 360 or PS3, no game on both systems is viable on the Wii.

But really, as a Sega fanboy....I keep hoping for a Dreamcast 2. So, I'll just say my opinions can probably be disregarded anyway.

Video Game Chat / Re: Fail Game Arguments

And I actually still like the Sonic games, and really don't get why everyone struggles with the controls and glitches. Maybe I'm lucky, but I played all the 3D Sonics and only died acidentally(not due to my error) once or twice. Maybe some people run through levels too fast the first times? I'm not sure. It's kind of odd.

Then again, it took me about a month to beat that spider boss in Mario Galaxy. I'm extremely weird in my gaming ability, which is why most of my arguements used to come with my brother. "Why are you taking the rails? It's so easy to miss and fall to your deaths! Kill the enemies on the floor!"..."What? Nah, riding rails is easy...." . What's easy is hard, and what's hard is easy.
