Author Topic: Best in series? WEEK 2: Final Boss Battles  (Read 10014 times)

« on: February 03, 2008, 05:26:27 PM »
We now start Week 2 of the popular new series, Best In Series. (Of Mario) I've decided we start a new one ever Sunday. Now we began. What Mario game has the best final boss battle? It's recommended you don't say WHO the final boss is directly, just the game.

Week 1(Best Attacks): Mario and Luigi: Super Star Saga

BEST FINAL BOSS BATTLE:
Super Mario RPG (1)
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (1)

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (anyone else who's beat it want to agree in spoiler tags?)

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door I agree.

Yeah, the music was awesome for both fights, and the fact that the first form was basically Peach was cool (of course, they kinda took that idea a little and used it when you fight Puppet Zelda in Twilight Princess, but hey).

Super Mario RPG.
That was a joke.

Call me old-fashioned, but I've gotta go with SM64... Even though it's not that old.  Still, please call me old-fashioned.  I kind of consider it a compliment.
Today's actually... nobody's birthday!  Quick, hurry up and make a baby!

Super Mario RPG contains the best final boss battle, even though it's not my favorite (that would be the one from the first handheld outing).

Other than the fact that after level 40 it loses its challenge entirely, I'll go with Superstar Saga.

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (though Superstar Saga is a close second)

Hard to say. I'm going to choose SMW2: Yoshi's Island. You know, the battle against Baby Bowser (I called him Bowsie). The second part of the battle ticked me off something royal, but it's hard to top the intimidation of seeing Bowser getting ever closer to the screen. And it's funny that an egg going straight up in the air always hits something flying overhead.

Other favorite final boss battles include the fight against Bowser in Super Mario World (for nostalgia), and the final battle in Super Mario RPG (great music, and the guy looks like a demented Santa Claus).
You didn't say wot wot.

I'm gonna go ahead and say Super Mario 64, although Yoshi's Island and Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga deserve some attention as well (and I see that they are).
Fangirling over Luigi since 1999.

Galaxy was pretty easy, but The New Bowser Battles bring a new twist to the series, also Bouldergeist was awesome!

Well, it wasn't the final boss battle, but the battle with Bowser at the end of World 1 in New SMB was great.

As for final boss battles, any of the Mario RPGs (including the one called Mario RPG) are my favorites, along with the boss for Mario Galaxy.

.. I have a really hard time picking favorites.

The New Bowser Battles bring a new twist to the series
How so? It's they same boss layout (two intermittent Bowser fights, then one final one) as SM64... well, gravity aside. If anything, the respledence of other boss fights was awesomely fresh (how many are there, anyway? Topman, Major Burrows, Baron von Brr, Bouldergeist, Tarantox...)

The results!

BEST FINAL BOSS BATTLE:
Super Mario RPG (3)
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (3)
Super Mario 64 (2)
Mario and Luigi: Super Star Saga (1)
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (2)
Super Mario Galaxy (2)
Paper Mario (1)

Wow, by far the most popular results yet. Super Mario RPG and PM2 are tied. If anyone would who has not voted yet would like to come forward for a choice of either SMRPG or PM2, we can finish this. For now, they will be both tied.

WEEK 1(Best Attacks): Mario and Luigi: Super Star Saga
WEEK 2(Best Final Boss Battle): Super Mario RPG/Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door

PM2 because when you see all of the people you meant, the places you visit, and just the whole game rewind itself in your will, it's really heart-lifting.

super mario rpg's boss was a guy who made people from welding. Yet thousand year door had a huge queen that was invincible until everyone in the world cheered mario on and he received the power to destroy the queen, though even which the healing and the power the boss was still as hard as heck to defeat. But you know that's apropiate, uhh I miss spelled that. So yeah thousand year old door has a better boss, even though Mario RPG was the better game.

(hi guys, I'm blackcat12 and this is my first post!)

My favorite final battles would be the ones in Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Sunshine, and New Super Mario Bros. The one in SM64 is fun, but way too hard. (it took me about 20 times to beat it) The ones from Paper Mario, SuperStar Saga, and TTYD are really good (especially the one in TTYD) but I don't really find them to be as fun as the platforming ones. Sure, the ones in SMG, SMS and NSMB are a bit easy, but you gotta admit they leave past platforming final battles in the dust.

I think Sunshine's battle is cool, despite what many think of it. Yeah, okay, it's wierd how it takes place on a huge hot tub. But the fight is really cool; you have to dodge Bowser's HUGE flame breath, Bowser Jr is firing a bazillion Bullet Bills from his boat, and the fight last longer then the one in SM64.

The one in NSMB is totally awesome, because it pits you against two bosses at once. The setting is really cool, the music is the best, the tension is really high, and once you see Bowser Jr fall into that pit, it feels like you've won the game, but nope, you still gotta beat a really angry Bowser. (that animation of him roaring and filling the screen with fireballs blows me away every time I see it)

The one in SMG is the best. Hands down. While it still isn't as hard as the one in SM64, it's definitely harder than any of the other platforming final battles, plus it's so much more fun. And epic. Bowser's attacks are really cool, and usually hard to avoid, the visuals are awesome, and when Mario and Bowser go flying towards the Reactor, and that choir music starts playing, my addrenelin starts rushing.

(as for my favorite retro final battles, I'd choose the ones from the SMW games)

Okay, I think I'm done ranting now.
Bowser and Bowser Jr: best villains EVER.
