Man I hated Time Magazine before..... but this is just disgusting. I'd say about 99% of all their statements in that article were false. The Lower Prices in Gamecubes have boosted Nintendo to the top of the industry in the past month or two, and even before that, combined with Game Boy Advance, it was still in the lead. I really hate TIme Magazine, and I always have, and this article just increases my sheer contempt for it. I remember once it showed a digitally enchanced picture of President Bush so he had a black eye on the cover, and another time I think I saw an article in it about how TV and Video Games are going to be the downfall of civilization due to their violence, and "mind control" over people. Ugh.... I've been sick, the past few days, now I feel like vomitting and this time it's not from that Virus I have!

Cel-shading makes the video games look cartoony, like Legend of Zelda: the Windwaker, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  I think it makes the graphics look not as good, even though they are.

LD, well, pretty much everything I put was true. They kinda seemed to verbally bash it. You say that you agree with everything they said? So, you're telling me that the GCN is the worst idea from Nintendo and that is has been a disaster in sales, etc.?

Why do people have to belittle Nintendo? There's this fat kid at my school that thinks Gamecube is crap because its games don't have enough violence. SHUT UP, EVERYONE, INCLUDING MICROSOFT!!! Nintendo is greater than you'll ever be; it's far more experienced than you. "Nintendo is kiddy because it doesn't make DVD players." You disgust me, Bill Gates. Get this: your video game sales have dropped nearly to 10 % last month! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!! NINTENDO RULES ALL!!! HAH HAH HAH!!

I don't see any "lies" in that article. I think you're all just mad because your beloved Nintendo is having a bit of a hard time. It is very true that they are taking a different route than the other companies.

And as for Nintendo "going Sega", I would have to begrudingly admit that it would benefit me, for exactly the same reason I'm benefited by owning many Sonic games for my GameCube. Three competing systems is too much, folks, for me and others with limited funds. The more games I can get for my one console per generation, the happier I am. If I can play Sonic, Mario, and DDR on the same console, count me in.

Trainman's article is the disturbing one. It links video games to violence and calls people idiotic just because they bought a PS2 or XBox. There's a reason that he doesn't write for Time, folks.

Don't be a fanboy, be a smart consumer. That's what encourages better production in the industry.

Good luck, Nintendo. I salute you. Give 'em hell before you die, at least. Kill them all, at best.

Trainman, your letter is biased, childish and far too long.  I doubt the editors of Time are going to bother even reading, let alone printing, a rant that goes on for over 3000 words.  It's all about being concise, my good man.  Also, it helps to use words that are actually in the dictionary.  (Funner?)

75% of the whole world?  I don't think Americans realize just how many people live in Africa.  And India, and China, and . . . places that aren't America.

Even in America I think the figure is no more than 30% or so.  Don't quote me on that--but it's definitely not nearly half.  One of the only minorities I belong to, then.  *shakes tummy at you threateningly, hee*

OK, maybe SOME of it was true.  But notice, they didn't mention any of the good news (sure they mentioned the price drop, but they still bashed it).  What of all the good news?  What of the GBA being the best selling of them all?  How the Cube was #1 selling console during Thanksgiving, and probably the holidays?  And by the way, Pikmin has sold over 1 million copies, which in my opinion is pretty decent.  And the way the information was presented, it was so biased.

And by the way, Nintendo has stated several times that if they pulled out of console production, they would pull out of gaming all together.  So you better hope they fair well...

Gamecube sales may have been low, but they rose greatly in the past month or two due to the price drops and bonus offers. Also, combined with Game Boy Advance sales, Nintendo is leading the Video Game race. Nintendo's main system may not be leading, but Nitnendo has a TON of other things that they can make money with. This is one of the main reasons why Nintendo is a better system in my opinion.

I don't think what I wrote was mean; it was true, and that's the kind of criticism you get when you put your work out there on the Internet for others to read and agree or disagree with as they like.  My comment was meant to be constructive, and I'd have been more than willing to help Trainman edit his post as well as I could (he obviously has much more knowledge than I do about the hardware comprising the systems, and I salute him for that) if he hadn't already sent the letter.

Sorry if I offended you Trainman, but I don't think my comment was excessive or out of line.  I've gotten much worse from professors.

And angry letters aren't "supposed" to be long; if you want to get your point across to someone, it's supposed to be clear and concise.  An editorial, that's different.  (Although it's still poor writing to repeat yourself using different words that many times.)

I'm soooooooo mad that I could kick some random PlayStation owner in the nuts right about now...!!

There is something interesting to be said, in the article they mention that Nintendo will fall one day like SEGA (I wish that never happens) if they keep on like they are now, and they article also mentions that this will cause Nintendo to go software-only...
Howvever, I don't think that will ever be the case, because once I read that Satoru Iwata once said,"...If our company goes down like SEGA, then that's it!"
What he meant that if we assume that both Nintendo's current console and GameBoy failed, then the whole company will fall and will be gone...
i.e. if Nintendo stops making hardware, Nintendo will also stop making software just like that, which is unlike SEGA had done Nintendo will do! Furthermore in meaning, no Nintendo hardware, no Super Mario game at all! Not even on Sony's, Microsoft's or even Nokia's systems like we now see Sonic the Hedgehog games on all sytems!!

I am a pure Super Mario lover!!
...and in no point in the future will he ever be abandonded by me!

And besides, no one can say anything about PS2 sales over GC sales. PS2 has been out much longer in case people didn't know that! Most of the above post are from Nintendo fan boys.  I think you guys need to lighten up.  Most of the artical was/is true.  Yes, the GameCube has done well 'recently', but over all it is hurting.  I hope Nintendo has learned that in the US video gaming is an adult market.  I know most of you are under 18, but most of you had parents buy your console(s) too.  I don't like 'mature' games, but my wife likes the PS2 because of the DVD she say it is a better deal for the money.  A lot of American would agree with her.  Now that DVD player price have fallen that may change some.  I have a PS2 and a GameCube, but greatly prefer the Cube.  Not because of the console itself, but because of the game Nintendo makes for it.  So, I agree with LD.  Anyway, not all of the article was Nintendo bashing:

Despite its troubles, no one is seriously suggesting that Nintendo is going to be squeezed out of the hardware business almost overnight, as Sega was. Nintendo is sitting on $6 billion in cash and carries no debt, which could provide a war chest with which to outsource a competitive next-generation hardware system. The threats to its Game Boy monopoly are, at this point, hypothetical; and it does have a core excellence in producing seductive software, which makes it (still) one of the largest game publishers in the world.

Nintendo having "$6 billion in cash" and "a core excellence in producing seductive software" are very positive to me.

NVM, WanWan. But, for some reason, a whole bunch of people like all these violent games. I guess people think murduring, robbing and all that other junk is cool. But they should look at what its done to innocent people. Espicially if some of that stuff has happened to their families. Anyway, that article is well.. kinda true. I mean, GC hasn't made alot of impact. I think Nintendo should go back to what they did with N64. I mean, N64 had all those Duke Nukem games and all that other crappy violence junk. We still loved Nintendo even when they did all that junk, right? I think I speak for all of us when I say, Yes we still did love Nintendo even when they made all those violent games! That's probaly why N64 was so popular. The point of the matter is that GC wasn't as succesful as the other 2. Now we all say we hate those bloody, violent games. So why don't we hate N64? We didn't play those games but we still played the others, see? I know Xbox has a whole bunch of violent games, but I play the ones that aren't so violent. A game like MechAssault aren't exactly violent. All there is are explosions and lasers, thats really it. If Nintendo goes back to that with the N5[or GC] then I won't play those games, I'll play the ones I want to play. I mean, when we play N64, we're not forced to play Duke Nukem or anything else like that. We play what we want to play.

I don't think it's a matter of that, really; people just think that PLAYING at murder and theft is cool.  I understand that you're not trying to tie violent video games to actual corruption but I also feel there's a difference between thinking murder is "cool," even within your own head, and enjoying video games where you murder people.

I mean, real-life cars or racing of any kind bore the hell out of me (is "hell" considered swearing on these boards?) but I still love all the Mario Kart and Diddy Kong Racing games, heh.  The video game world has nothing to do with the real world, at least not once you reach a certain maturity level and assuming you've had a halfway decent upbringing.

It depends on what moderator sees it. I, for one (Am I even a moderator anymore?) don't care, and have used "hell" as emphasis in my posts. Sapphira, now, is very offended by language like that, something I pass off as nothing.

Anyways, I didn't think Nintendo was marketing the GameCube very well. I mean, until I saw the #1 article, I though Nintendo was marketing itself too childishly and also, by seemingly stalling the online capabilities, makes "serious" (By serious, I mean haughty FPSers and sports fanatics) gamers turn away. Guess Nintendo is doing more right than I thought.

Although I will say that Time's presentation of that article was flawed at best and absolute tripe at worst. I expected  impartial judgement from such an esteemed and highly regarded publication, but no, I get biased crap. Just makes my abhorrence for the media that much stronger.

(Battle Hymn of the Republic starts playing in the background)
Fellow Nintendo fans. Nintendo has always been there for us. Together we've been through the best of times. We've been through the worst of times. Others have tried to take Nintendo's place on the market, but Nintendo will always have its place in our hearts. So now I say, if we stand together, and fight for what is right, Nintendo... will always be... the VICTOR!!!!!

Amen.

Well, now that I've written such a majestic and heart throbbing speech. I say we all stop arguing and go and play some Nintendo.

(please say the following in the best Darth Vader voice you can) Mario.... I am....your biggest fan!
