Title: a scary story
Post by: CrossEyed7 on February 27, 2012, 12:40:55 PM
i had a lot of dirty clothes this morning

i decided i would go do some laundry

the washing machine broke a few days ago

my dad fixed it

then my mom decided to bleach the whole thing
because it had been smelling kinda moldy for a while anyway

so then now it's today

i take my laundry basket to the washing machine

my colored clothes are on top, so i start loading them

then i open the detergent drawer

there is something in the fabric softener compartment

and i cannot tell
whether it is vinegar
or bleach

we have been using baking soda to wash and vinegar as softener for a while now

i sniff it
it doesn't smell like anything

i pull up the bottle of vinegar
and sniff it
it smells like vinegar

i pull up the bottle of bleach
and sniff it
it smells a little like bleach

i sniff the fabric softener compartment's liquid again
it smells like neither
but neither does it smell like water

i stick my finger in the liquid
i sniff my wet finger

i consider licking my finger

but i don't

i decide, to be safe, i will wash my whites first
but the floor is dirty
and there is no extra basket
or surface

so i pile my colored clothing on top of the washer
hoping none of them fall irretrievably behind
the washer
and then
i load in
the whites

i open up the detergent drawer again

i put bleach into the bleach compartment

i put the baking soda solution into the detergent compartment

and i decide i will fill up the softener compartment to the max fill line
with vinegar

but when i do

the fabric softener compartment

is now

empty

Our washer has done this before too.  It uses a jet of water to flush out the bleach, detergent, and softener.  Occasionally there will be some water left behind, but that usually drains away after closing and reopening the drawer are time or two.  Not very scary, but I can see your concern.  http://i.qkme.me/1t0m.jpg

I bought the "Bag of Holding" on ThinkGeek. It has two metal indents on the bottom that attach to magnetic nubs on the top.

One day, I realized there was a flap that kept coming loose.

I checked, and

one of the indents was now a magnetic nub.

My father-in-law was being taken to the hospital by one of his sons because of the flu.  About halfway there he had his son turn around to go home, but felt worse again and decided to go to the hospital.  When he got to the hospital there was a huge line and a full waiting room so he went outside to leave.

Turns out it was congestive heart failure instead of the flu.  He died.

The emergency room doctor was able to bring him back and he is now home with about one-fourth heart function.

I wish this story ended with, "In West Philadelphia born and raised," but it's all true.  It's also why I'm out about 3K and won't be able to fix some stuff on the old house we are buying, but it's hard to complain when a loved one nearly died.  Am I doing it right?

I just remembered something that happened on Monday.

I had prepared Swedish meatballs and pasta, which were on the last stage of cooking in the oven (about 10 minutes if I remember correctly). My mom was putting a salad together and my dad and I were at the table. Where I sit, my back is to the oven, and I hadn't looked at it since I put the food in and started the timer.

My parents were talking to each other and I realized how thirsty I was. My thoughts were specifically, "I'm thirsty the meatballs are probably almost done I should get a drink and look at them"

But I didn't move. In the middle of that thought I started counting down from 5.

5, 4, 3, 2, 1,

and exactly as I hit zero, the oven's timer alarm sounded.

I don't know if I should be impressed or creeped out.
