Put what you think would happen if someting slightly changed in Mario games. We'll start with what would happen if Bowser died the first time he fell in the lava at 1-4.

I think it would still have Bowser as the final boss.

But it's not Bowser in 1-4.  It's just a goomba, spelled-up to look like Bowser.  That's why he turns into to a goomba if you hit him with fireballs.
