Title: Super Mario Bros. 3 Released on Virtual Console
Post by: David on November 05, 2007, 03:16:49 PM
Yes, what many of us consider the greatest Mario game ever is now on the Virtual Console for your buying convenience.  Grab mushrooms, turn into stone statues, fling hammers, and hop around in a giant shoe; truly, what more are you looking for?

Super Mario Bros. 3 (http://www.themushroomkingdom.net/games/smb3) is available for the criminally low, low price of 500 Wii Points (or $5.00 in USA cash). Buy one, two, or even three copies today!

Can you even buy it more than once on VC? (no)

Very shortly, however, you can buy it for other people!

I have a question about this title, does it have the updated graphics, or the original nes ones?

All the NES VC titles are in their unaltered forms. In fact, they're just the ROMs, emulated.
Though, wasn't there something about Kid Icarus and the passwords?

Kid Icarus VC  does not use the same passwords nor can you use NES-version passwords on it. Also, Tecmo Bowl had its rosters changed and other games have had copyright updates, I think. It isn't always 100% original. (Hacking ROMs is easy.)

Wave Race 64 had the Kawasaki ads replaced with Wii/DS ads.
The Japanese LoZ uses a version from 2004 with different font.
Zelda II had the epilepsy-inducing Game Over flash removed.

etc.

A-hah. So, minor changes are made but for the majority of games, nothing is different.
I liked that game over sequence. It was like, "You died in the game, so, why not die in real life?"

^Reminds me an awful (with emphasis on awful) lot of Gamebox 2.0...

Dumb.

Yeah, it sure is dumb to have your brand name licensing expire.

???

It's just kinda quirky they wasted time replacing banners with plugs for the Wii/DS, that's all (but I guess that's nothing compared to how much they chopped outta all the Ocarina of Time remakes when some Muslim groups started complaining about the Fire Temple music and Gerudo symbol...).

They more than likely were required to change the ads.

I've finally got it!

For some reason, the first four times I tried to play it, there wasn't any sound. I redownloaded before the fourth try. Now, today, it's working perfectly. Odd.

They also had to recolor Ganon(dorf)'s blood from red to puke green >_<

His vomit was originally changed to whatever color tunic you happen to be wearing at the time, then to green regardless in later N64 editions.

An excellent way to find out what version you have is to wear the zora tunic when defeating him. If red, you have the orignal. If blue, the second edition. Green, in ever other subsequent release.

Too bad i can't access the Wii Shop Channel, due to not having Wi-Fi connections to my Wii. If i do get one, you can bet i'll download this awesome game. It's one of my favorites, along with the other three, Lost Levels included.

Hey, cool!  I knew about red vs. green blood--but changing with the color of the tunic... ?  Have you confirmed this yourself?

It was only a matter of time before this game was put on vc. All the other classics were ported to the vc.
