I read it...where are these shortcuts?

Is there really one for Yoshi's Circuit? I hate that course! And I can't beat Sherbet Land to save myself! I went 0-7 against my cousin on this one over a two day stretch!

At least I was getting pretty good at battle mode...have to find some way to win against a 12 year old girl...but I still was under .500 both days.

Maybe I should just retire from video games because I suck!!!

The world is getting too dependent on the internet. Anyone besides me remember having to load programs onto a hard drive from floppy disks? Before installers when they came with these huge books that told you how to drag each icon to each folder?

Or when your dog could step on a game cartridge and it would still work?

I don't like any sort of CD or related item either. They're slow, they look easy to break, and I can't stand jewel cases. I prefer floppy disks, tapes, and game cartridges. I don't care if I'm stuck in 1991 or something but they just have always worked for me. CDs have caused me lots of headaches--especially on the computer where they are slow and on the Game Cube. That little CD whirrs around so much it makes me nervous. And I didn't like having to buy a memory card when the old games had save built into them. I don't like music CD's because my car can't play them! (I have a tape player)

Computers that plug into TV's...try putting one of those old things on that 108 inch TV I just read about in the newspaper!

I was playing around with the old Mac and realized something. I could survive with just that computer if I had to. It has a printer, a word processor, a drawing program, and a few little trinkets for me to play with. The only thing it doesn't have is the internet. Sure, I like the internet to keep up with folks and get news, but if my iBook ever broke or something I think I could get by with my old computer.

It might be younger, mine came in August 2000...

I did a little research and here are the specs for my OLD computer (the Macintosh LC)...was cleaning out and moved the boxes, found the original manual there...

 - Processor: Motorola 68020
 - Processor Speed: 16 Megahertz
 - RAM: 10 Megabytes (came with 2)
 - Hard Disk Size: 40 Megabytes
 - Internet Speed: None
 - Preferred Screen Resolution: 512 by 384 (my monitor was only 12 inches!)
 - Operating System(s): Mac OS 7 but it came with OS 6

This is what manuals are good for! My computer is an Apple iBook from 2000 (it's orange)

 - Processor: G3
 - Processor Speed: 300 Megahertz
 - RAM: 192 Megabytes
 - Hard Disk Size: 6 Gigabytes
 - Internet Speed: I have DSL, is that what you want here?
 - Preferred Screen Resolution: I checked, it's something like 800 by 600?
 - Operating System(s): Mac OS 9.1

I probably have the oldest computer of anyone here. My old computer was something like 16 Megahertz and the hard drive was around 40 Megabytes. No internet on that one and it ran Mac OS 7. The reason I bring it up is because I just got it out after someone told me to take the battery out if I'm storing it long term. It was actually an easy fix--the cover just snaps on and off of the computer and the battery is in a regular battery socket! (My old computer was a Macintosh LC)

I need some serious interpretation here!!!

I somehow got abducted by my dad (who is non-custodial and has never tried to abduct me before). He was forcing me to go to my old college that I hated and transferred from. Well, he let me get out of the car once I got to the building that was once my dorm so I run toward the direction of the student union. There's this big office building/mall type place there and I get on board an elevator with some creepy lady. I get off and then get back on so I can be in the elevator alone. The place has 12 floors and I get up to the top level and see a guy with grey hair and a goatee there. Then I see one of my friends from high school. She's walking along and looks concerned and is coming to tell me something when this goatee guy (who is dressed in a white lab coat) takes a shaker of something out of his pocket (looked like salt) and dumped it on the girl. This girl somehow turned into a tomato. I punched the guy out of the way, picked up the tomato, and went downstairs. The goatee/lab coat guy and some old professors who hated me were all there (on the third floor). Meanwhile I'm running around with this tomato in my hand and eventually walk outside to find my grandparents flagging me down. I get in their car, we drive to their house, my dad tries to chase in his car but gets lost or crashes (don't remember which), and I still have this tomato that was my friend in my hand. Just as my mom is about to arrive to take me home, I wake up (still with my friend as a tomato in my hand).

ANY INTERPRETATION OR HELP ON THIS IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. I FEEL VERY HAUNTED BY THIS DREAM AND I DON'T NORMALLY GET LIKE THAT.

Good topic here...

My Nintendo 64: In great shape all around. All controllers are originals and the control sticks feel brand new on them. The system looks just like it did in 1997. Everything works perfectly. I have the original box for the system, games, controllers, and memory card, plus I've used the cleaning kit (also still in the box).

My Game Cube: Also in excellent shape. The two controllers are the originals and again feel new. My games load just as fast as they did when I got it in 2001. This one's been to a few hotel rooms for some rounds of midnight baseball and it still works great even after sitting in my duffel bag! Again, I have the box for this one.

My Macintosh LC: I know this isn't a gaming system, but I have played games on it. It's in excellent shape, no dust or scratches or dents. It's in storage now with the ORIGINAL BOXES, manuals, and disks.

My iBook: In use almost daily, it still works. The battery died after five years and now it's a power supply operated computer but it works great. A few minor scratches to the exterior, but I have taken it places. Nothing noticeable to the naked eye. In addition to my carrying case, I have the original boxes for this one too.

My Mom's Atari 2600: I know this one has been repaired once. The left controller port is glued in. Also, the paddle controllers needed rehabilitation (silicone spray on the insides). Otherwise it works great. I know she got this around 1981-1982. All joysticks are the originals. She has the original box and manuals for this one!

My Mom's Magnavox Oddyssey Pong System: It works great! It looks great! And it's in the original box!
 
My Cousin's Game Boy Advance: I'm not sure if she still has this one or not, but I think she said it died or something. She got it in 2002 and I know she took it almost everywhere (plus she was younger when she got it--7 and a half--and the Game Boy didn't have a case).

My Cousin's Game Cube: This one works. It's two years newer than mine (she got hers in 2003) and I know it gets heavier use (she's a big time gamer) but I don't think it's had any problems. I do know one of her controllers got slightly mutilated--my uncle hit one with a sweeper and there's a big indentation in one of the control sticks.

My Cousin's Nintendo DS: Brand new right now.

My Grandfather's Nintendo DS: Excellent condition. He has a case and everything. He hasn't played with it a whole lot in the past few weeks because he's been doing stuff around his house but now that he has a new game he will be playing it in his spare time (FYI: He's 77, recently retired, and wants to be hip--this guy almost bought an Abercrombie polo a few months ago!)

After typing this, I've come to realize that my mom was probably a more serious gamer than I ever have been and that my cousin will probably wind up on this forum chatting about Mario some day. And we probably have to watch out for Grandpa--next thing I know I'll be buying him Mario Kart DS for Father's Day.

Video Game Chat / DS Stuff

Well, Christmas seemed to be a success for the DS players in the family. My cousin loves her DS and enjoys both of her games (Nintendo Dogs and Mario Kart), and my grandfather is excited about Madden (he hasn't gotten around to playing it yet).

I have a question about the DS and the batteries. My cousin was getting impatient and when she was charging her DS for the first time she didn't let it charge all the way. Now I'm not sure how similar the battery is to that of a cordless phone, but I got a telephone last year and I know I had to charge it completely for six hours as per the manual. I think the DS manual said three off the top of my head (my uncle told her at one point), but I know that DS was only in the wall for about an hour and a half.

Will this affect the battery? Should she be worried about the battery not working as it should?

My mom actually wants a Wii...and if she gets one I'd want to know something about this download program...(my mom has always been into video games, she still has an Atari in her bedroom...she's more into games than I could ever dream of being; mu uncle and grandpa is where I got the baseball love from)

If I already have the games on the list (specifically Mario Kart 64) could I show proof of purchase and not have to pay the points? I have the original box, manual, quick reference card, and even player's guide offer for all of my games. I just think it sounds sort of silly to have to pay for a game I have owned for nearly ten years again, so I am hoping this is the case if I can somehow provide proof of ownership? Unfortunately the Toys R Us reciepts from April 1997 have long been scrapped...

My favorite is from Super Mario 64 during the final Bowser battle. It's an organ fanfare which reminds me of a postlude from church. It's just very powerful and always has me cranking the volume on my TV.

I wish Madden would have better soundtracks! They need some trance, dance, house, etc. in those games!!! Same goes for the MVP Baseball series!!!

Vidgmchtr: This sort of happened once at my alma mater. During my sophomore year, it poured duing the homecoming game. The game continued but the band stayed amazingly. They sounded awful--it looked like mostly brass down there. However, the ones I felt the worst for were the folks on court that year--they got their suits and dresses soaked. The poor girls got their hair wrecked as well. Sure was glad I wasn't on court that year. The football players didn't have to worry since our field was turf. If I recall they did win that night though...

Anyway, on to my most recent wacko dream. I'm back at my alma mater and it's all deserted. Sealed up. I go outside and there is my best buddy (not a student there), my baseball coach, and a girl who went to my school. They for some reason want in the back entrance and claim that the school will be doomed if they don't get in there. Well, they get in. The girl, who was on crutches, goes into the band room and I didn't see her again. My best buddy runs down toward the science rooms. Coach just sort of stands there and panics, sort of like if the team was down 9-1 in the third inning. I'm standing there with Coach and I'm just as puzzled as he is. My best buddy starts running back and some force appeared to be working against him. Then I wonder what happened to the girl. Coach is still standing there doing nothing. Then I wake up.

Could this be across time?

I'd like to take the USSR during the Stalin years versus present day Cuba for one and for the other I'd likely choose the Native Americans from the mid 1700s versus Germany circa 1941. I think both could be interesting.

I wish I had this assignment!!!
