I don't understand what the fuss is anyway. Wii Sports surpassed SMB, get over it. It happened. As far as recognition goes, just because many of you won't remember it doesn't mean the rest of the Wii-owners won't, too.

Honestly, I think "Best-selling game of all time" really should just denote the game that sold the best not counting the copies that came with a console (if it's possible to quantify that, and I'm sure it is).

On that note, what's the best-selling game under that criteria? Is it still SMB?

Possibly SMB3. Although I think something outsold SMB3. GTA:SA? Ech...
That was a joke.

Yeah, I figured it was SMB3 (well, it acheived something sales-related).

SMB3 still holds the record at 18M; GTA:SA is a couple of slots behind at 12M.

Though, thinking about it that way, that puts bundled games like Super Mario Bros. at an unfair disadvantage because for every console bough packaged with it, there's one potential "real" sale lost.

Wii Sports passed SMB in sales.

It's not a fair contest Wii Sports comes with every Wii.

I KNOW! IT'S NOT LIKE SUPER MARIO BROS. WAS BUNDLED, RIGHT?

I wouldn't know because I never saw an NES for sale in my life.

Well Super Mario Bros. WAS bundled with the NES.
Gently push a piece of the tube containing the intersection along the fourth dimension, out of the original three dimensional space.

I thought that went to first gen Pokemon.  But if we're not talking about two different versions of the same game, then I too would guess SMB3.
