Bowser isn't losing anything.  He may have been used for comic relief in Superstar Saga, but just about every character in the game (including the Mario brothers) got their turn at being ridiculed.  The entire game was comical.  And let's not forget that Boswer got super-evilized in SSBM in the form of "Giga Bowser."

I think he was evilest in SMW and SM64, he was absolutely wicked looking and had crazy no-holds-barred attacks.
