Not at the Dinner Table / Another example of PC running rampant?
« on: April 14, 2010, 02:51:01 PM »
Anybody up for some Political Correctness talk?  Living in Fargo (going to college at NDSU), I have been hearing about political correctness rearing it's ugly head (only my opinion) in the form of UND being forced to retire the "Fighting Sioux" nickname, as it is offensive to indians, apparently.  I am not an indian, so I wouldn't know.  I wonder how much longer it'll take until the NFL's Redskins have to change their name?

General Chat / Old Shames on the FF.
« on: March 06, 2010, 08:34:37 PM »
This may be a touchy topic for people to talk about, so you don't need to say anything if you don't want to.  I was reading some of my old forum posts from around 2003-2005, and I have to say some of them were rather embarrassing.  I'm not talking about statements on my faith, because I still hold true to my faith.  What I'm talking about are the most infamous moments of yours truly, such as my Anti-Pokemon phase, which got a then-good friend of mine mad at me on this very forum.  Hating Pokemon is not a bad thing, but I realize now that I was behaving like a total ******bag.  Now for a more humorous example: I used to be a fanboy-type to the core.  I'm still a Nintendo loyalist, but I've grown up now and I don't go out of my way to bash other gaming systems (at least not out of spite) anymore.  Man, most of my history for the first couple years here on the FF is downright humiliating!

Video Game Chat / Has Nintendo forgotten the hardcore gamer?
« on: January 30, 2009, 02:17:00 PM »
I've been on various forums lately, and I've noticed that a lot of people have gotten uptight about Nintendo making such casual fare as Wii Fit and Wii Music.  Even I admit to playing my SNES and N64 more often than my Wii lately.  Sure, we have our fair share of franchise games such as Super Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess, and so on, but I see a lot more games aimed at the casual crowd on the Wii.  I don't think Nintendo has forgotten hardcore gamers, I just think they're more concerned about getting "everyone" to play their games.  What are your opinions on this matter?

The White Mushroom House / Quick Question
« on: July 21, 2008, 10:14:21 AM »
I gathered all of my SNES games and I am currently wondering which ones could fetch me some money.  Here they are, arranged by series:

Super Mario World
Yoshi's Island

Donkey Kong Country
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble

John Madden Football

Clayfighter 2: Judgement Clay

Paperboy 2

Super Mario Kart

Super Mario All Stars

Monopoly

The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past

NBA Jam.

Edit: I'm probably going to keep these games, I'm just interested.

Video Game Chat / Anyone ever play RBI Baseball?
« on: September 14, 2007, 09:37:01 AM »
So, has anyone played the NES baseball classic known as RBI Baseball?  Man, that game is off all of the following: the hook, the chain, and the wire.  I enjoy it, but I really suck at pitching.  I gained a 10-9 lead before giving up a walk off home run when I was playing last night.

General Chat / The bridge collapse in Minneapolis
« on: August 02, 2007, 06:25:58 PM »
Wow...just wow.  I live about 30 miles Northwest of Minneapolis, and I first heard about this when I was in Idaho yesterday.  This is just horrible.

A major bridge on I-35 collapsed in MInneapolis on wed.  Seven are confirmed dead and the toll is expected to increase.

Wow...this doesn't happen everyday.

General Chat / Fungi Forums 2006: A year in review...
« on: December 19, 2006, 11:39:47 PM »
This is the first time in 3 years that I have done this.  Post all of the reasons why you think 2006 was a great year for the FF.  I know it may be a little early, but better early than late, eh?  Anyway,  I thought 2006 was a great year because:

-The forum received a major facelift, as well as new features.
-Boo_Penguin was "the man" in the chatroom
-We had a wealth of quality members join the forums.
-New boards.

If the title of this topic is true, then why do I hear so many people online say that it will fail?  Are the games too kiddy?  Or are a lot of "mature" gamers out there the kind that think that only playing GTA and other titles of that nature make them mature?  Or that playing any game with a bright background makes them gay?  Then you have the fanboys.  This is self explanatory.  The guys that say "This system will suck because it's from this company."  I don't get it.  Wii Tennis looks like a total blast, it actually brings you into the game.  I have a friend who got one, and he says it's amazing.  I have another friend who's maybe getting one for Christmas.  Needless to say, I think I know where I'll be spending some time over break.  Anyway, I think I just gave myself a big reason to go and buy one...if I had the money.  So, enjoy the Wii.

General Chat / Bad TV shows, or show ideas
« on: September 17, 2006, 08:11:27 AM »
This is the thread where you can spout off about TV shows that should never have been made, whether they be spinoffs, or original shows.  The Swan, anyone?  That would be my choice.  Boy, what better way to attract an audience by telling some lady that she's unattractive because she looks natural for her age?

Video Game Chat / Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii (split from bathroom thread)
« on: May 08, 2006, 04:39:03 PM »
"Ohhhhh, I think I'm gonna puke my pants!"

I couldn't agree with Coach Z more on this one.  I actually did make a Wii comment in another thread.

MOD EDIT: Jman did not start this thread. I split it.

Mario Chat / Favorite Mario party Minigame.
« on: February 18, 2006, 11:07:59 PM »
This may have been done back in the day, but I'm starting it up nonetheless.  The title is pretty self-explanatory.  Out of all Mario Party games, which mini-game is your undisputed favorite?

I have quite a hard time deciding most of the time, so I choose Bumper Balls.  Bumper Balls is a great mini-game that I think was only in the first two MP games.

Video Game Chat / Most underrated games
« on: February 18, 2006, 09:17:06 PM »
Let's face it, there are fun games out there that nobody talks about.  I can name several, but I want to focus on one.

NBA Jam is a very fun 2 on 2 basketball game where you can make impossible dunks and long 3's like they're everyday feats.  Crazy last second shots are also frequent.  I have won and lost so many games at the last second.

So, let's hear about some more underrated games that you guys like.

Forum Games / Mario Party RPG
« on: January 17, 2006, 07:14:14 PM »
An add a sentence story with an odd premises.  I don't know how we're going to do this, but I guess we're going to have 4 characters, as three other forumers besides myself choose characters.  I might just end up treating this as SSB Live, with commentators if this doesn't work out.

1st turn: the 4 characters come to the starting circle, the rules are explained, and they get lined up and ready to go.  Traditional Mario Party rules apply.  (I only have MP 2 and 3, so if anyone wants to write what happens in minigames from any other versions, go ahead and do so.)

Forum Games / Quest For The Planets!
« on: December 03, 2005, 11:17:23 PM »
I am still determining whether to totally take creative liberties and make up my own plots for certain events in the actual season three.  I think I might have Bowser and the Mario characters team along, maybe.  I know that a Sonic story isn't very kosher for a Mario forum.

Video Game Chat / Which of these classic games is your favorite?
« on: December 03, 2005, 01:34:52 PM »
This is the next question in my series of polls.  Which of these five classics do you love above the other 4?
